“That ‘nanny‘ lie? Flimsy! One phone call exposed it! But you?”
“You ‘imprisoned‘ me? Yet paraded me as your PA! You think Evelyn didn’t know?”
“You were bored with her! Knew the cripple had no family, no escape! You took her for granted!”
“SHUT UP!” Alex roared, mind blanking.
He gritted his teeth, eyes crimson. “Shut your mouth!”
He kicked her. Hard. Again. And again.
Until she lay still. He bent double, gasping.
Scarlett stirred. Wiping blood from her face, she sneered:
“Kill me? Her blood’s on your hands!”
Before she could say more, Alex’s boot slammed into her chest, flipping her onto her back.
He stomped on her mouth with his heel, grinding down.
Scarlett shrieked. No one moved.
Burly men materialized. They bound Scarlett, gagged her, and shoved her into a car. The locks clicked.
She snapped back to terror, pounding the window. “ALEX! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? YOU’RE INSANE!”
The car lurched into motion. Self–driving mode engaged.
100 kph.
200 kph.
Scarlett screamed as the car smashed head–on into a semi–truck. The front crumpled like paper.
Bruised and scraped, Scarlett was hauled to the hospital.
Alex demanded amputation.
The surgeon balked. “Mr. Vance, only abrasions! Amputation is-”
Alex turned. His eyes were black pits. “I said AMPUTATE. NOW.”
The doctor stammered, “Anesthesia… not prepped… tomorrow…”

Chapter 9
“Perfect. Proceed, Today.” Alex’s smile was pure malice.
The doctor vanished into the OR. Thirty minutes later, blood–curdling shrieks ripped through the halls.
“HELP! MURDER! HELP ME!”
Scarlett screamed all night.
The Rossi family? Vanished. Alex’s money talked. They’d signed waivers.
Understanding. Forgiving. Permitting… amputation. Or death.
Seeing the documents broke Scarlett. She thrashed against her restraints, shrieking curses. “ALEX VANCE! ROT IN HELL! YOU KILL ME? YOU’LL PAY!”
Alex stood at the window, ignoring her.
He replayed the moment Evelyn learned about the settlement agreement. What had she felt?
Each imagined thought was a knife to his heart.
He clutched his chest, forcing himself to remember, tears carving paths down his cheeks. I watched, unmoved.
I floated close, shouting in his ear:
“ALEX! TOO LATE! I DON’T WANT THIS!”
