Nolan’s Pov
I watched the girl run off, leaving me standing in the middle of the mess I just created.

For a full second, I just stood there, frozen with one hand still gripping the vending machine, the other clenched tight. My throat burns and I can still feel some aches in my stomach. This must have been from the stupid cookie dad brought home. I had been feeling some pain ever since I ate it.
“Brilliant, Nolan,” I mutter under my breath. I drag a hand through my hair, my jaw tightening. The janitor rushes past me again, with a mop this time, giving me a look. I step back, giving him space to clean the mess.
As I walk away, her face keeps flashing in my head – that shocked expression, those wide eyes, the way her voice trembled between disgust and disbelief. She was furious, embarrassed… but she didn’t scream.
Most people would’ve lost it. She just froze, like she didn’t know how to react. Who is she and why is she messing with my head?
“Stop talking! Please… stop talking!” Her voice echoed in my head.
I’m sitting in class an hour later, but my mind isn’t here. Mr. Halden’s voice drones on about chemical equations, but all I see is her face.
I press the edge of my pencil into my notebook, hard enough to break it. I need to get laid.
I never lose control. Never.
And yet, one random girl…
“Yo, Nolan,” Kai cut through my thoughts, leaning over from the next desk. “You good, man?”
“I’m fine,” I mutter, flipping a page.
He grins, whispering, “You sure? Because your face says otherwise”
“Just tired.” I mumble.
He smirks, elbowing me like the irritating pest he is.
“Right. Tired. Is that all you will say after a night out with a senior chick. What was her name again? Naomi? Nina? Or–wait -was it twins this time?”
I shoot him a flat look. “Shut up,
Kai.”
He laughs, leaning back in his chair. “Oh, come on. You’re Nolan freaking West. You don’t get tired. You make people tired.”
“Can you not talk for five minutes?” I hissed. “I’m trying to concentrate here.”
He raises his both hands in mock surrender. “Jeez, relax. Who pissed in your coffee this morning?”
I opened my mouth and closed it back, sighing, my pen tapping against the desk.
Someone better get her face out of my head before I lose my sanity. I just can’t stop seeing her face.
The way she looked with my vomit trailing down her cheeks.

Chapter 55
I groan under my breath. “This is pathetic.”
“What’s pathetic?” Kai whispers.
“Just shut it Kai.”

It’s not like she’s the first pretty girl I’ve seen. I’ve had entire partes crash just because I winked at someone. Girls like me. I like girls. It’s a simple exchange of attention and fun–no strings, no stress.
Yet this one–this one with her flushed cheeks and stunned face just won’t leave my head.
I drag a hand through my hair again for the thousandth time today and groan quietly, sitting down at my usual table. Kai, Mason, and Leo are already there, loud as always, talking about girls.
“Heard you ditched morning practice. What gives? A quickie with a senior?” Mason grins, nudging me as I sit.
“Just was not feeling great,” I say, unwrapping my sandwich without looking at him.
Kai leans across the table, eyes glinting with mischief. “Not feeling great, or feeling guilty, huh?”
“Where is Asher?” I asked instead, ignoring his words.
“I think he’s with his sister.” I nodded. He refused to introduce her to us because he doesn’t want us breaking her heart. Not that I could ever have a thing with my friend’s baby sister though.
“Well, well. Nolan West. How are you doing?” A soft voice said from behind me

I turn around, and there she is is it Bella? Or Anna? I know she is a senior, cheer captain and the kind of girl who never eats lunch alone because everyone wants to be in her orbit. Had a thing with her once.
Her golden–brown hair is tied up in a high ponytail, exposing her neck collarbone. She dragged her already short skirt even higher, flashing her curves.
“Hello,” I greet, leaning back in my chair. “What brings you here?
She slides a manicured hand onto my shoulder and tilts her head. “Just wanted to see if the rumors were true.”
“What rumors?” Mason pipes up eagerly, practically bouncing.
Bella ignores him, her eyes locking on mine. “That you’re officially single again.”
I smirk. “You believe everything you hear?”
“Only when it benefits me.” She leans closer, close enough that I catch her perfume – almost suffocating. “You know, West, I never understood why we never happened.”
Kai whistles low. “Oh, it’s happening now, I think.”
I roll my eyes. “I was never tied and girl, me and you?” I chuckled. “I don’t do relationships.”
Her smile falters a little but she slides a small piece of paper toward me, the corners decorated with tiny hearts.
“Call me later,” she says simply, her voice dripping with confidence.
I glance at the number and then back up at her. “Why? Need help with something?”
“I think I need help with my cardio workout.” She slurred

“Noted.” I say, tucking the paper into my pocket with a lazy grin. I’ll think about it.”
“Make sure you do, hottie.” She winks and turns to leave, swaying her hips.

“Damn dude. Bella Carmine. *Bella freaking Carmine. You have no idea how many guys would sell their souls for that number.”
Kai leans back with a smirk. “And Nolan’s probably gonna forget to text her just to keep the streak alive.”
“Maybe,” I mutter, staring at the folded paper.
They laugh, talking over each other about the weekend game.
