Chapter 169
When Daron saw Marina accept his offer without a second thought, a hint of a smile flashed in his eyes.
Marina followed Daron into the house.
Daron pulled her suitcase over to the door of the nanny’s room and pushed it open.
“You’ll stay here,” he said.
Marina nodded and stepped inside.

After glancing around the room quickly, Marina’s eyes widened in surprise. She turned to Daron, unable to hide her shock.
“You call this a nanny’s room?” Marina said, raising an eyebrow.
This place was almost as good as her old room at the Finleys.
There was a king–sized bed, a closet, a bathroom, a dressing table, and there was even a walk–in closet.
‘Since when would a nanny get her own walk–in closet?‘ Marina thought, still a bit stunned.
“To change into a new set of cleaning clothes every few hours?‘ she continued to wonder.
Daron nodded in reply to Marina’s question.
Marina pressed her lips together and forced a fawning smile.
“Mr. Zamora, if my family goes bankrupt someday, may I apply to be your nanny?” she joked.
Daron glanced at her sparkling face and nodded. “You’re hired.”
“Excellent!” Marina said, hamming it up like a servant from the olden days, making a dramatic gesture as she lightly supported his arm.
“Your humble maid needs to tidy her humble quarters now. Lots of unsightly personal items inside that may offend your noble eyes. Allow me to escort you out,” she said, putting on an exaggeratedly servile tone.
Seeing her groveling expression, Daron reached out and flicked her forehead.
“Ouch!” Marina winced and quickly covered her head.
“Get to work,” Daron said, satisfied, and turned to leave.
Marina unpacked her clothes from the suitcase and hung them up in the closet, but they barely took up a single corner.
Staring at the massive closet with just a few of her clothes hanging there, she couldn’t help but think how pitiful her wardrobe looked.
Marina bit her lip, trying to shake off the feelin
herself.
Once everything was put away, her phone rang.
Marina glanced at the caller ID. It was Robert.
‘No big deal, I’m not planning to stick around anyway, she reassured
“What’s up?” Marina picked up her phone and said casually.

Marina replied coolly. Tm back. What do you want?
Lavern let out a beasy sigh, his voice turning cold. If you’re back in Sicester, then why aren’t you at the company?
Maruna’s voice was indifferent. The company will has you holding it up, don’t it With or without me, it runs the same
Marina’s words choked him for a moment, then he sapped. If you’re coming back to work, at least show some responsibility as a manager. You ditching work, what do you think the rest of the team is sepposed to think?
Marina shrugged. I’m not getting paid anyway, so who cares if skip worke
Her apathetic tone pricked at Lavern–but also reassured him. The more the acted like this, the more convinced he was that she had no intention of fighting him for control of the company
Why’d you block me? I can’t even reach you. Just take me off your block list already, Lavern complained
Marina shot back, “Don’t see the point
Lavern took a deep breath. “How is it not necessary? I need to talk to you about work”
Marina said with a lazy tone, “Work matters are discussed during working hours, not outside of them.”
We still have to attend the class reunion together tomorrow, Lavern added, his voice a little rough. Marina stayed calm. I never said I’d go with you. Between you and me, there is only you and me, not us.”
With that, she cut him off and hung up.
As she lifted her gaze, she spotted Daron standing at her doorway, watching her with that intense look in his eyes.
She was caught off guard for a moment, knowing Daron always suspected she’d go soft on Lavern. Not wanting him to get the wrong idea, she quickly explained. “Lavern just grabbed Robert’s phone to call me
Duron nodded, giving only a quiet “Mm”
Seeing he wasn’t even a little upset, Marina let out a silent sigh of relief.
She bent down to put her suitcase away, searching for somewhere to store it, when Daron came over and opened the top section of the wardrobe.
Put it in here,” Daron said.
Only then did she notice the wardrobe included a specific compartment designed for luggage.
She gave an awkward smile and said, “You have a great memory Even the details of a nanny’s room are so clear to you.” Darons withdrew his gaze and said, “I designed this place myself and oversaw the renovations. So I remember the details.”
Marinal’s eyes widened in surprise.
He’s always swamped with work, but he actually made time to design and renovate this place himself? That’s wild, she

“Then this house must have a special meaning for you, right?” Marina asked.

The topic changed so abruptly that she blinked before responding, “Anything.”
“The hardest thing in the world to eat,” Daron looked at her, “is anything.”
Marina gave an awkward laugh. “Then, do

Daron asked, “Can you cook?”
“Simple home dishes, yes. Complicated ones, no. Sometimes I get lucky and whip up something good, but most of the time, it comes out terrible,” Marina confessed, without sugarcoating it
Her cooking skills were wildly inconsistent, even to herself.
Daron arched an eyebrow, a teasing glint in his eyes. “Then let’s see just how terrible.”
Marina let out an awkward laugh. “Guess we’ll find out. Just don’t blame me if it turns out terrible.”
Daron nodded, looking relaxed. “I won’t. Worst case, I’ll order takeout.”
Taking a breath, Marina made her way to the kitchen.
Opening the fridge, she froze.
“Mr. Zamora, how do I cook with an empty fridge?” Marina called out, sounding a bit helpless.
Hearing that, Daron picked up the car keys from the
counter.
Marina thought he’d changed his mind about trying her cooking so she followed him and asked, “We’re eating out?”
Daron answered calmly, “There’s nothing at home. Shouldn

we go buy some groceries?”
There was a market near the neighborhood. After a short drive, they arrived.
Marina was the first to spot the store and told Daron to stop the car.
Inside, Daron grabbed a shopping cart and trailed after Marina.
Marina walked ahead picking vegetables, occasionally checking one before placing it in the cart.
