Yara had wanted to stick around, but when Mallory told her to leave, too, she could only pause at the elevator entrance, watching Lavern and Mallory stand inside.
She waited until the elevator doors closed before turning away, unable to hide the disappointment in her eyes.
If Lavern’s plan hadn’t still been in the works, Yara would honestly wish Marina would just find already.
As long as Marina gave up on him completely and went back to rufield, Lavern would finally Lavern led Mallory into his office.
out her and Lavern
o her alone.
She looked around the office, with a touch of mockery in her eyes and said, “Let me guess, Marina designed this place for you, didn’t she?”
Marina had already demonstrated her design skills back in middle school, and the teachers were all over her for it.
At home, Mallory was always put down by Mila, and at school, Marina never missed a chance to put her in her place.
Whenever they entered competitions together, Mallory was always stuck playing second fiddle. She never got to be number one as long as Marina was around.
Lavern nodded, “Yes.”
A mocking smile tugged at Mallory’s lips.
Looks like Marina really was planning to settle down with this guy for good, Mallory thought.
From what Mallory had found out, right before Lavern and Marina were supposed to tie the knot, he was hooking up an intern from one of their partner companies.
Who knows what kind of things they got up to in this very office Marina had designed for him.
Just picturing how much it must hurt Marina, Mallory couldn’t help but gloat a little.
She finally got what’s coming to her, Mallory thought.

From the way Mallory was looking at him, Lavern could tell right away that Mallory and Marina were definitely not on friendly terms.
With things so messed up between him and Marina, Mallory showing up like this could only mean she had an agenda.
Lavern pulled out a chair for Mallory, putting on his best polite act.
“Ms. Gill, please, have a seat,” he said.
Mallory just glanced at the chair and didn’t bother to sit down, her voice cool and detached. “Since you and Marina were planning to get married before, you must have your wedding photos with her, right?”
“Send me a copy. I need them,” she added.
Lavern didn’t hand over the photos right away. Instead, he gave Mallory a sly smile and asked, “So, Ms. Gill, what exactly do you want with my wedding photos with Marina?”
Mallory frowned and looked up at Lavern, her eyes brimming with arrogance.

“Just give them to me. That’s all you need to do,” she said, not bothering to explain herself.
Ever since Lavern became the CEO at Ross Group, it had been ages since anyone looked at him like he was beneath them.
He’d already put up with Mallory’s attitude, but now that he realized she was probably planning to use those wedding photos to cause drama back in Vrufield, he wasn’t about to just hand them over.
“Ms. Gill, you came to me because you want to team up. If we’re working together, that puts us on equal footing, Lavern said, his tone cool and confident.
“If you want to make a splash in Vrufield, you’ll need me to play long. Photos are just props: your corner.”
Vrufield was packed with influential families and filthy wealthy elites.
If Marina went back to Vrufield, there was no way he and her could ever patch things up.
Only by trashing Marina’s reputation could he make sure she’d have no place in Vrufield’s high society.
When she ran out of better options, he’d be her best bet.
Seven years together, he couldn’t bear to let Marina go.

Ever since Marina left with Daron last night, Lavern had been plagued by a gnawing sense of insecurity. He knew deep down he couldn’t hold a candle to those trust–funded kids from Vrufield’s wealthy families.
He was convinced that the only way to keep Marina with him was to destroy her reputation, leaving her with nowhere else to turn but him.
Mallory paused for a moment, realizing Lavern actually made sense.
A guy who’s juggling two women at the same time? There’s no way he really cares about Marina, Mallory thought to herself.
She didn’t need to worry about Lavern double–crossing her.

Once Marina got her hands on the files Robert had gathered, she called Daron.
The phone rang and rang, but no one picked up.
Just as she was about to hang up, the call finally connected.
Daron’s deep voice came through the phone. “What is it?”
Marina started explaining her plan.
“I’ve got proof that Lavern has been ripping off the company’s investment funds, but the evidence. n’t rock solid yet. We could have Zamora Group’s audit squad tear through Ross Group’s books and really expose what’s going on,” Marina said.
Zamora Group’s audit squad was famous all over the country.
Now that Daron owned more than seventy per cent of Ross Group, he basically called all the shots. If he wanted to run an audit, nobody could get in his way.
Marina gripped her phone tightly, waiting in silence for Daron to respond.
But he just kept quiet. She had no idea what he was thinking.

“Once Lavern gets burned, all those executives he brought in are gonna freak out and start offloading their shares in Ross Group. That’s when I’ll be done with Ross Group,” she said.
This time, Daron finally spoke up.
He gave a sarcastic laugh. “You really can’t wait to ditch Ross Group, huh? Not even a little sentimental about the company you built yourself?”
Marina’s voice was calm.
“People need to look ahead. Elnora and the Finley Group are more important to me
Ross Group had already fulfilled the purpose she gave it when she founded it.
Now that it was in Daron’s hands, that was the best result she could ask for.
han the Ross Group,” she said.
If Zamora Group’s auditors really tore through Ross Group’s books, Lavern would be thrown into chaos. That could dig up even more dirt, leaving Lavern with no way to deny a thing.

“Drop everything off at Zamora Group. I’ll check them out first, then decide if I want to call in the audit team,” Daron said.
Daron didn’t wait for a reply, just hung up.
Marina stared at her phone, a flicker of confusion crossing her face.
She’d expected Daron to agree to bring in the audit team without a second thought. After all, this was for Zamora Group’s benefit too.
Daron had invested a lot in Ross Group. There’s no way he’d stand by and let the rats sneak off with the assets.
Not knowing what was going through Daron’s mind, Marina just told her team to grab every bit of evidence they had and made her way to the Zamora Group to meet him face to face.
As Marina headed downstairs to leave Ross Group, she spotted Yara in the underground garage, just chilling in her car and messing around on her phone. It looked like she was waiting for someone.
Her affair with Lavern had only just been exposed by Shawna last night, and now, who would’ve thought she’d have the guts to show up at Ross Group today?
Yara was chilling in her car when she sensed someone watching her. She glanced up and spotted Marina strolling past.
She immediately popped open the door and hopped out, waving as she called out to Marina.
“Hey Marina, heading out for some business?” Yara asked.
As she spoke, she glanced at the briefcase Marina was carrying, her smile warm and friendly.
Marina stopped, shot Yara a glance, and asked, her tone cool as ever, “And you? Waiting for Lavern to get off work?”
As she spoke, Marina glanced at her watch and

“You’ll have to wait for a while,” Marina said.
