Chapter 4 Did She Admit She Was Wrong

Logan didn’t sleep at all that night. When he got up, his eyes turned cold at the sight of the sofa. Usually, it would be neatly laid with his freshly ironed clothes. Today, it was empty

For years, Eliana had taken care of all these small things. With her suddenly gone, the staff had no idea what Logan liked. Not sure which outfit to choose, they had picked a suit at random and ironed it in a hurry

Staring at the suit the housekeeper Sophie was holding out, Logan frowned deeply.Get the black one.”

Mr. Eliot, I’m not sure which black suit you mean. I’ll go find it right away,” Sophie said nervously. Hearing her flustered tone, Logan snatched the clothes from her hands in annoyance and turned to dress himself

Feeling his rising anger, Sophie kept her head down and didn’t dare say another word. She didn’t even dare breathe too loud. After she had finally made it through Logan’s endless complaints, she hurried off to deal with Samuel

Samuel’s allergic reaction had been bad the night before, and by morning the rashes still hadn’t gone down. Samuel was so uncomfortable that he started crying. Eliana, what’s wrong with you today? Why aren’t you here to make the itch go away?”

You promised me. You said as long as you were here, I’d never get hurt. You liar! Youre a big fat liar!Samuel sat up, swinging his arms blindly at the person in front of him without even opening his eyes

Sophie cried out as Samuel’s fist hit her face. Mr. Samuel, Mrs. Eliot didn’t come home last night. I don’t know how to make you feel better. Can you tell me what she used to do? I’ll do exactly the same.”

Hearing Sophie’s voice, Samuel finally opened his eyes. Then he let out a loud wail. How should I know? Why are you asking me? Go ask her. I’m in so much pain. What kind of mother is she? Call her. I’m telling you to call her right now!”

Sophie quickly agreed and frantically dialed Eliana’s number. She was even more anxious than Samuel was now. If Mrs. Eliot doesn’t come back soon, this whole house is going to fall apart, she thought

But the call went straight to voicemail. Eliana’s phone was off. With no other choice, Sophie could only try to calm the boy down patiently

It wasn’t until Logan appeared that Samuel immediately started complaining, his voice thick with tears. Daddy, Mommy is bad. She didn’t come home on purpose, just to make me suffer

She’s jealous of Isabella. She hates that I get along with Isabella, so she’s doing this

to hurt me. Daddy, I hate her. I hate her more and more!”

Logan looked at his son’s miserable state, his face dark. He turned to the servants. Is this what I pay you all for? A bunch of useless people? Eliana always knew what to do when Samuel was like this. Can’t any of you remember?”

But his angry words were met with silence. Every servant hung their heads, not daring to make a sound. They were willing to put up with it for the good pay, but none of them dared to pretend they knew what they didn’t

In the end, they had to call the family doctor to put some ointment on Samuel, which finally calmed things down. But the peace didn’t last. As soon as Logan and Samuel saw the breakfast on the table, their faces fell again

Sophie was truly out of ideas. She slipped into a corner and nervously dialed Eliana’s number once more. By this time, Eliana was already awake and had turned her phone back on

The moment the call connected, Sophie almost cried with relief. Mrs. Eliot, Mr. Samuel misses you so much. He’s been asking for you since he woke up. He told me to call and ask when you’ll be coming home.”

Sophie chose her words carefully over the phone, afraid that saying the wrong thing would make Eliana refuse to come back. Everyone in the house knew Samuel was everything to Eliana. As long as they mentioned the boy, Eliana would always give in

But this time, when Sophie finished speaking, the voice on the other end was calm and steady. Sophie, you don’t have to make up stories to get me back. I’m not coming back, and Samuel doesn’t actually miss me

If

you really can’t handle looking after Logan and Samuel, why don’t you call Isabella? They’re both always happy with whatever she does.”

Sophie opened her mouth to say more, but Eliana had already hung up without hesitation. With no other choice, Sophie decided to take a chance and call Isabella

When Isabella heard that Eliana hadn’t come home all night and that Samuel wanted her, she was thrilled. She agreed right away. Of course. I’ll come over now. Leave Samuel to me. I’ll look after him.”

Sophie let out a big sigh of relief and finally came out of her corner. Logan shot her a sharp look and snapped, Who said you could call her?”

Sophie was startled. She was about to stammer out an explanation when Logan cut her off, his voice cold. Did she admit she was wrong? When is she coming back?he asked

Logan had actually noticed Sophie sneaking off to call Eliana, and had let it happen. As long as Eliana was willing to say she was sorry, he could let her come back

Mrs. Eliot said she isn’t coming back,” Sophie stammered, shaking

If she’s not coming back, then fine. She can stay away forever. I don’t want her to be my mom anymore anyway.” As soon as Sophie finished speaking, Samuel, who had been miserable all night, broke into a loud cry, blaming it all on Eliana

When Logan heard this, his already dark face grew even stormier. Sophie didn’t know what to do next. Just then, the door opened and Isabella walked in

Isabella put on a look of deep concern the moment she stepped inside. Oh, poor thing, crying like this. He had such a bad time yesterday, and he’s still not well.”

She walked straight over to Samuel, picked him up, and began to soothe him. She pulled out a piece of cotton candy she had brought just for him

Samuel liked this, and it didn’t take long for Isabella to calm him down. Soon he was leaning against Isabella, happily eating the cotton candy she brought, his cheeks still wet with tears

Sophie glanced at Samuel and hesitated. She remembered clearly how Eliana had told her again and again that Samuel had a weak body and bad eyesight, and that the doctor had said he couldn’t eat too much sugar

But like any child at his age, Samuel loved sweets. Eliana went to great lengths, making all sorts of delicious sugarfree snacks at home, just to satisfy his sweet tooth safely. It had taken years of careful effort to build those healthy habits, and now they were about to be broken in a moment

But just as she was about to speak, Sophie closed her mouth again. She had already seen for herself how unreasonable Logan and Samuel could be. It was better to stay quiet and not cause trouble for herself

She was just about to turn and slip away quietly when she heard Logan speak. Looking at Isabella, he said gently, Thank you for coming all this way so early. Whatever you want as a reward, it’s yours.”

Then I won’t hold back,Isabella said, putting on a playful tone as she smiled up at him. I want a bracelet.”

Of course. I’ll take you out later, and you can pick out anything you like,” Logan agreed

without hesitation

Logan, I don’t want one from a store,” Isabella said softly, a hint of sadness in her voice. I want that emerald bracelet, the one I saw Eliana wearing at your wedding

I missed so many years of your life. I just want to wear that bracelet. It would feel like catching up on some of the time we lost. Would that be all right?”
