Chapter 42
Even though Nathan knew Eliana was drunk, a faint smile still tugged at his lips the moment she said that.
“Eliana, you better remember what you just said. I’m telling Logan right now.
“Don’t think being pregnant will help you. Even if you have the baby, Logan won’t take you in, and he’s not even going to claim that messy kid as his own,” Aurora snapped, then left.
The smile on Nathan’s face vanished. He leaned in, eyes locked on Eliana, practically gritting his teeth as he asked, “Pregnant?”
Eliana, still feeling the effects of the alcohol, frowned a bit. “What?”
“Don’t play drunk with me, Eliana. You’re pregnant and you’re still drinking like this?” Nathan was in a foul mood, his face cold as he stared at her. “Are you really this irresponsible?”
He kept calling her irresponsible, but Nathan was screaming inside with jealousy.
The fact that she had a child with Logan had already taken him a long time to get over. But if there was another one now, Nathan was barely holding it together.
He seriously wanted to drag her straight to the hospital and have her checked. If she really was pregnant with Logan’s kid again, he’d make sure to end it right there, so they wouldn’t keep dragging things out.
But those thoughts just kept spinning in his mind. In the end, Nathan had to choke those feelings down hard.
He clenched his jaw so tightly it almost hurt and grabbed Eliana’s wrist. “If you’re not even sure, let’s go to the hospital right now and find out for sure.”
Eliana jerked her hand free. “Are you crazy? I’m not pregnant. And even if I was, what does it have to do with you, Nathan? We’re nothing but partners.”
Fueled by the booze, Eliana’s temper finally snapped. She shot back at Nathan without thinking.
After she pushed him away, Nathan let out a bitter laugh and lowered his gaze for a moment.
He then looked back at her, his voice laced with sarcasm. “Eliana, you only ever have the guts to stand up to me. Why didn’t you fight back when Aurora was giving you a hard time?
“Did the Eliot family save your life? Why do you let them walk all over you?
“Or is that just how you are, Eliana? The worse someone treats you, the more you care, but when someone’s actually good to you, you just couldn’t care less?”
Nathan’s words were biting, each one landing with precision and setting Eliana’s nerves on edge.
Memories from her past life tangled with the present, and suddenly she felt like she couldn’t breathe.
Thinking about how she’d always swallowed her pride and compromised herself in her previous life, Eliana

could barely stand to face it.
She’d thought she’d learned her lesson early enough this time, that all her shameful secrets were hidden deep where no one could find them.
But Nathan’s words stirred up all the buried wounds. She felt like a cloud of dust had been kicked up inside her, making everything blur.
Tears welled up in her eyes, and she quickly walked toward the front hall without saying another word. As she walked, she tried to steady her emotions, and by the time she reached the hall, she had calmed herself.
The party was winding down, and people were leaving. Feeling miserable, Eliana instinctively decided it was time to leave too.
But she’d barely taken a few steps when Logan suddenly appeared, blocking her path.
Seeing her like this, Logan’s eyes were filled with emotions too complicated to describe.
He used to think she was always nagging and talking too much, but right now, he had a million things he wanted to say to her.
Logan took a deep breath, steadying himself, then looked at her seriously. “Eliana, come home with me.” With that, he grabbed her hand, and started leading her out.
He had so many emotions inside, it was hard to sort through them all. His first instinct was just to take her home. Once they were home, they could figure everything out as a married couple.
But after just a couple of steps, Eliana yanked her hand free. “Logan, don’t forget, we’re getting a divorce. If it weren’t for the legal process, we’d be done already. So what are you trying to pull right now?”
Logan’s face darkened instantly at her words.
Fortunately, most of the guests had already left, so he controlled his temper and said, “Eliana, I know you’re jealous because of Isabella. I’ve already sent her away. Isn’t this what you’ve been asking for?
“Fine, I’m giving you what you want. Can you stop with the drama now? Let’s go home first. We’ll deal with everything else once we’re there.”
Logan thought he’d already humbled himself enough, and Eliana would cave now. But when he reached out again, Eliana avoided his hand once more.
Logan’s cool demeanor cracked a little. “Eliana, are you really going to keep making a scene? Let’s put everything else aside, do you really think the Lyons family can handle the Westridge project?
“You think business is a walk in the park? You really believe you can pull off the Westridge project after leaving
me?
“This is your last chance. Come home with me now, and we’ll talk about everything there. Eliana, you need to know when to stop.”
Just then, Nathan walked over. Seeing them in this standoff, Nathan felt a knot form in his chest. He had told

himself all the way here to have some backbone and just ignore the whole thing.
But when Nathan got to Eliana’s side, he couldn’t hold back anymore. He stopped, looked straight at Logan, and said. “Mr. Eliot, what exactly do you think you’re doing with my date?”
Nathan then looked at Eliana and gently stretched out his hand. “Let’s go. I’ll take you home.”
Eliana finally slipped her arm through his, following him out. To be honest, Nathan wasn’t exactly a good guy in her book, but between the two, Logan was the one she really couldn’t stand,
So without a second thought, she followed Nathan, leaving Logan behind without looking back.
As she passed him, she saw Logan’s usual stoic face show clear annoyance. But at that moment, Eliana didn’t care about his feelings. Watching him get put in his place, she felt a sense of satisfaction.
