Chapter 270

Pain exploded through my arm but I managed to keep my balance and my knife

He pressed his advantage, coming at me fast. His hand closed around my throat and he slammed me against the wall

My back hit hard and pain radiated through me, but my front, my stomach, was protected by our bodies being pressed together

Not so tough now, are you?he said, his face inches from mine

I couldn’t breathe. Black spots were dancing at the edges of my vision. My free hand scrabbled at his arm, trying to break his grip

while my knife hand was pinned between our bodies

I brought my knee up again but he’d learned from last time. He blocked it with his own leg

My vision was starting to tunnel. I was going to pass out if I didn’t do something

My hand found the gun tucked into my waistband, I pulled it free and pressed it against his ribs

Let. Go,I managed to choke out

His eyes widened slightly but he didn’t release me. You won’t shoot. Not with those kids in the house. One gunshot was risky

enough.”

He was right. The sound, the danger to Lily and Liam. I couldn’t

But I could use it differently

I brought the gun up hard, slamming the grip into his temple. His grip on my throat loosened and I hit him again, harder this time

He dropped and I fell to my knees, gasping for air. My throat felt like it was on fire and my vision was still spotty

I heard Sarah grunt and looked over to see her surrounded by three men now

She was still fighting, still holding them off, but I could see she was tiring. Blood was running down her arm from a deep cut, and she

had a split lip

But she was still standing. Still fighting

Still protecting us

One of the men managed to grab her from behind, pinning her arms. Another raised his fist to strike her face

Chapter 270

No!I screamed, trying to stand

62

But Sarah was faster. She threw her head back, connecting with the nose of the man holding her. I heard the crunch of breaking bone

and he released her with a scream

She spun and kicked the other man in the chest hard enough to send him stumbling backward

The third man, the one I’d shot in the leg, was limping toward me with murder in his eyes

I forced myself to stand, using the wall for support. Everything hurt. My throat, my shoulder, my back where I’d hit the wall

But my stomach was okay. The baby was okay

I had to keep it that way

The man I’d knocked down was starting to get up too. And across the room, the men Sarah had been fighting were regrouping

We were outnumbered and we were tiring. Even with all our training, even fighting as hard as we could, there were too many of them

Sarah came to stand beside me, both of us breathing hard

You okay?she asked, not taking her eyes off the men

I’m fine,I said. You?”

I’ve been better, she admitted. But I can keep going.”

The kids,I said

I know, she said. We have to keep them away from the kids.”

The four men were advancing on us again, spreading out to surround us

Is that all you’ve got?the first man taunted, blood still dripping from his shoulder and ribs. I expected more from an Alpha’s

family.”

We’re not done yet,Sarah said, raising her knife again

But I could hear the exhaustion in her voice, could see the way she was favoring her right side

I raised my own knife, though my hands were shaking from adrenaline and fatigue

My wolf was stirring inside me, restless and agitated. She wanted out. Wanted to shift and tear these men apart for threatening us, for threatening the cubs
