Chapter 1155
Nathan said nothing. He straightened up, took a few steps bark, then turned around and walked out.
He left.
hey slowly opened her eyes. Latge tears still slid down.
At that moment, a gentle ringtone broke the silence. Her phone was ringing.
Ivy took out her phone. It was Tabitha calling. She answered, and her mother’s voice came through immediately.
“Hello, Ivy dear.”
“Mom,”
“Ivy, that illegitimate girl went to see you, didn’t she? You’re pregnant now. That homewrecker and her daughter must be panicking. The Quinns won’t let them through the door. Quinn Corporation kicked them out, too. Watching them fall apart is so satisfying! It really eased some of the anger I’ve been carrying all these years.”
Ivy stared at the ceiling of her office and didn’t say a word.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Tabitha asked.
“It’s nothing, Mom. I’m listening.”
“You’re pregnant now. Don’t work yourself so hard. You have to make sure the baby is born safe and healthy.”
“Okay.”
“I know how hard you’ve worked all these years. I know you’ve suffered. The thing I’m most proud of in my life is having you as my daughter. You’re my pride and joy.”
Ivy tightened her grip on the phone. “Thanks, Mom. I’ll be fine. Don’t worry.”
“Good.”
They ended the call. Ivy lowered the phone, sat up, and placed it into her bag.
She looked at herself in the mirror.
Her face was pale, her eyes empty. She didn’t even know what she was thinking anymore.
She had grown up in a deeply unhappy family. She didn’t know what a father’s love felt like.
Ivy only knew that from the moment Tabitha had once tried to take her own life, Ivy had no choice but to succeed. She had to fight Noelle and Kate.
For more than 20 years, Ivy hadn’t allowed herself a single mistake. She studied hard, worked hard, and never dated. When it came time for marriage, she followed Roger’s arrangement and married Nathan.
As the conflict reached its peak, she had no choice but to get pregnant.
She was like a machine, controlled and directed by others.
Just now, when Nathan had pinned her against the desk and told her that he could abandon her and the baby at a single word, that other women could give him ten kids if he wanted, her tears had suddenly fallen. She couldn’t stop them.
She felt like a joke.
All her effort felt like a joke.
Even her entire life felt like a joke.
A wave of exhaustion she had never felt before washed over her, snapping the tightly wound string she had held for more than
1/3
20 years.
Ivy cried for a long time, then dragged her heavy body back home,
Wanda immediately came to greet her. “Welcome home, Mrs. Low. Have you eaten?”
Ivy nodded. “Yes, I have.”
“I made some chicken soup for you. Have some, then go rest in your room.”
“Okay.”
Ivy sat down at the dining table as Wanda brought out the soup.
Ivy picked up the spoon and began to eat. She didn’t even know what it tasted like.
She only knew that after crying, life still had to go on. She couldn’t collapse. There was still too much she needed to do.
She needed the baby inside her.
That, and she truly loved this child.
She had never truly owned anything in her life. This child was hers, completely and undeniably hers. Wanda hesitated, then asked Ivy, “Where is Mr. Lowe? Didn’t he say he was picking you up after work?” Ivy’s hand paused slightly with the spoon, then said, “He went back to the office.”
