Chapter 48

Kane’s POV

As Seth and I made our way to the choosing ceremony, anticipation coursed through my veins like

electricity knowing that it was finally time to make the biggest change in my stagnant life.

Today was the day I would finally make my match official with Tessa, the girl who had captured my heart from the moment I laid eyes on her (regardless of how banged up she looked that day) I could

sense it.

Putting aside that she had recently pissed me off to the point of wanting to kill her – I didn’t want to date anybody else and that was final. Nobody else was as down to earth or as deserving as her for

the position either.

This would be a happy day after the intended long ass talk that I plan on having with her about

how she had acted at the damn festival that is!

After further thought, I knew she wouldn’t dare to upset me this way ever again. Not unless she has

a death wish…

We arrived at the grand hall where the ceremony was to take place, the air buzzing with excitement and nervous energy as most humans and males were already in and seated.

Seth clapped me on the back, a grin spreading across his face as he caught sight of some of our friends seated among the crowd: others from our pack who had gone on trials with the humans from this centre too as I gave them a nod of acknowledgment.

“Ready for this, bro?” Seth asked, his voice filled with excitement as I sighed heavily and made a

move.

I nodded, unable to suppress the grin that tugged at my lips. “I guess we’ve ignored them both long enough now? Today’s the big day.” I state, fixing myself up and brushing myself off.

“Yeah here’s hoping that they approve me taking Erin for a trial today too eh?!” Seth adds with a laugh, knowing that most likely they would in fear of upsetting either of us.

We finally made our way across the hall before moving to find our designated seats down the front,

my heart pounding with anticipation as I scanned the crowd for any sign of Tessa – finding none yet.

1 secretly couldn’t wait to see her, to hold her in my arms and to declare my feelings for her – feeling

that she had suffered enough for her actions with the uncertainty of whether or not I would keep her

around.

Music began to play, as the lights dimmed around us, before the host appeared and attempted to

liven up the crowd of male wolves all of which are just wanting to cut to the chase.

But as the ceremony began and the girls began to make their way onto the stage, I noticed a conspicuous absence. Tessa and Erin were nowhere to be found, and a cold chill settled over me as I

realised they were both appearing to be missing…

Did they not show up in fear of seeing us?

“Where the fuck are they?” I muttered, my voice low with concern as I paused to see if they would be running late, but finding no sign of them anywhere as the minutes stretched on.

Seth frowned, his gaze scanning the crowd for any sign of them. “I don’t know. Maybe they’re just running late.” He shrugs, shuffling a little in his chair as I straighten up in alarm.

It was hard to put my finger on, but in that moment, deep down, I knew that something was wrong. Tessa wouldn’t miss this for anything, especially not after everything we had been through together.

She would want this chance to fix things…

As the ceremony continued and the matches were made, my anxiety grew with each passing moment

as I could feel myself ready to explode with fury.

Where were they? And why weren’t they here on time with us?

Finally, when it was my turn to make my match official, I stood up with a sense of determination, ready to declare my feelings for Tessa in front of everyone in hope that she would magically

appear…

But before I could make a move or even speak, Margo Felicity, the coordinator of the ceremony,

my seat. rushed down the aisle towards me with a somber expression as she hurried towards

My heart sank to the pit of my stomach as I braced myself for what was to come

“What the fuck is it? Spit it out!” I snapped, my voice barely above a whisper as the room grew silent

and tense.

Margo’s expression darkened as she spoke. “Tessa and Erin… they’ve both attempted to run off. They’re both gone – I’ve just had some of my staff check the area for them and we can’t find them anywhere.” She concludes, as my brows furrow and I don’t quite understand what she is saying.

They’ve run off? I don’t believe it!

Shock and anger coursed through me like a tidal wave, leaving me reeling in disbelief and ready to

destroy this whole room.

“What the fuck are you saying? No, that can’t be true, Tessa wouldn’t do that! She was terrified when she thought Erin had tried to run off – she knows the consequences of doing that!” I protested, my mind refusing to accept the reality of her words.

But as I looked around the room, the truth sank in. Tessa and Erin were nowhere to be found, and a sickening sense of dread settled over me like

Without another word, I stormed out of the hall, hitting everyone and everything that stood in my way as my mind raced with a million thoughts and questions.

I have to find the both of them – this instant!

How could this have happened? And why hadn’t I been there to stop them?

We shouldn’t have gave them the silent treatment – fucking knew it! We’ve pushed them too far!

I vowed then and there that I would find them, no matter what it took.

With Seth hot on my heels, I sent a quick mind–link to Anthony to let him know what had happened

and to tell him to meet us in a room to devise a plan.

With a sense of determination burning within me, I summoned a meeting with all of the facility staff and current members of my pack who were in the hall, unwilling to waste another moment in

finding them.

As we entered the room, I could feel the tension crackling in the air, as we waited mere seconds before everyone involved began to pile in and show either their concern or support on the task at

hand.

“We need to find Tessa and Erin,” I announced, my voice firm and resolute. “They’ve disappeared, and I won’t rest until we bring them back safely. If anyone knows anything – TELL ME.” I demand, as the group remain quiet and awkward.

“I’m here! Where the fuck have they gone?!” Anthony rushes in, as I shake my head and he eyes the masses of males and females I had gathered together in the room to help.

Margo Felicity, who had also followed us into the room, forced a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes as she spoke up. “Of course, Kane. We’ll do everything we can to help you track them down.” She states, before licking her teeth and growing uncomfortable as I stare right through her.

Her words sounded hollow to my ears, and a flicker of suspicion crossed my mind. Something about her demeanor seemed off, as though she was hiding something from us…

But there was no time to dwell on my suspicions. Tessa and Erin’s safety was my top priority, and I couldn’t afford to let anything distract me from that.

“Start by checking all the exits and security footage,” I instructed, my voice steady despite the turmoil raging inside me. “We need to find out how they managed to slip away unnoticed.” I wave off some of the centre staff who nod and make a move to do just that.

As the others sprang into action, combing through the building in search of any clue that might lead us to Tessa and Erin, I couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that gnawed away at me.

How the fuck has this happened?! If they have both run off, and word gets out about this, then they will be hunted and executed as rogue humans! Foolish behaviour! They know better…

Margo hovered nearby, her movements nervous and fidgety as she pretended to assist with the search. But I could see the guilt written plain as day on her face, and a surge of anger rose within

“What do you know, Margo?” I demanded, my voice sharp with accusation. “Did you have anything to

do with this?”

She recoiled slightly at my direct question, her facade crumbling under the weight of my scrutiny. “I- I don’t know what you’re talking about, Alpha Kane, she stammered, her voice trembling with fear.

But I wasn’t buying it. “Tell me the truth, Margo, I can practically smell the dishonesty radiating from you!” I insisted, stepping closer until we were face to face and my eyes burned holes through

her.

I’ll fucking have her executed at this rate… she’s walking on egg shells.

“WHERE ARE THEY?!” I yell in her face harshly, as Seth stands near with caution – ready to interject

if needed.

“They’re gone, sir. They’ve been taken.” My heart stopped at her whispered words, a cold dread settling over me as she avoided all eye contact.

“Taken?! TAKEN BY WHO?!” I demanded more instantly, my voice cracking.

Margo hesitated, her gaze dropping to the floor as she spoke. “By two Russian males who paid a lot of money for them to the centre. They… they forced them onto a private jet and… and they’re gone they took them even when we tried to stop them.” She finished, as my blood runs cold with possibilities of which pack they are headed to.

We didn’t have good terms with many of the Russian packs… this was the worst fucking outcome

that could have came!

Shock and disbelief washed over me, leaving me reeling in disbelief. Tessa and Erin had been kidnapped, taken by two strangers to god knows to where in Russia!

“YOU DIDN’T THINK TO TELL US SOONER?! ILL HAVE YOUR HEAD FOR THIS!” I fume, not wasting

the ground with a sharp scream.

“P–Please!” She cries, clutching her bruising face as

“Have our men arrest her! Keep her locked in holding until further notice!” I demand loudly, as Seth and Anthony follow my order and grab her up to her feet as she thrashes desperately against them.

“No! You can’t do this!” She screams, as I almost lunge to snap her neck but Seth turns to stop me – knowing that I would probably need her alive.

“You have messed with the Dawn Laws! You have messed with official paperwork and you have sold MY HUMAN TO THE RUSSIANS!” I lose my shit completely, as Seth and Anthony move quickly to remove her from the room before I lose full control and wind up bringing my wolf forward.
