CHAPTER 67
The road grew narrower the farther they traveled.
Adrian’s car stopped at the edge of a forest road where asphalt gave way to ancient stone, cracked and overgrown with moss.
Tall trees loomed overhead, their canopies interlocking like the ribs of a sleeping beast. The air itself felt different here- thicker, quieter, carrying the faint scent of incense and old rain.
“This is it,” Kai said softly.
Adrian stepped out of the car and looked ahead.
At the end of the path stood a temple..Not grand in the modern sense, but ancient–its stone pillars weathered by centuries, its tiled roof darkened by time. Faded carvings lined the walls: symbols of medicine, martial forms, celestial patterns, and unfamiliar sigils that seemed to shift when stared at for too long.
“This place still stands,” Adrian murmured.
Kai nodded. “Master protected it before he fell ill. Not many people know it exists.”
They climbed the stone steps.
Before they could knock or announce themselves, the heavy wooden doors creaked open on their own.
A man stood inside.
He looked no older than sixty, dressed in simple gray robes, his hair streaked with white. His posture was straight, his eyes sharp and clear–eyes that widened instantly when they landed on Kai.
“Kai?!”
The man rushed forward without hesitation, grabbing Kai’s shoulders in both hands, his voice trembling with emotion. “You’re alive! You’re really alive!”
Kai’s throat tightened. “Uncle Silas.”
The man laughed, then cursed, then laughed again, pulling Kai into a fierce embrace. “Your father… your father would’ve been furious if you’d come this late!”
But then-
His gaze shifted.
It landed on Adrian.
The joy vanished.
The man froze mid–breath.
In the next instant, he dropped to one knee.
The sound echoed through the temple hall.
“Welcome back, Master.” The words struck like thunder.
Kai spun around. “What?”
Adrian frowned slightly. “You don’t need to do that.”
But the man lowered his head even further, his voice filled with reverence and fear. “I must. Even if your memories are sealed… even if you deny it… the soul does not lie.”
Kai looked between them in disbelief. “Uncle Silas, what are you saying? He’s my father’s student, not-
“”

“He is more than that,” Silas interrupted quietly. “Far more.”
Adrian studied him carefully. “Stand up,” he said calmly.
Only then did Silas rise. “You recognize me?” Adrian asked.
Silas smiled bitterly. “How could I not? I guarded this temple for thirty years waiting for this day.”
Kai felt his scalp tingle. “Waiting… for what day?”
“For the day he returned.”
Silence fell heavy. Shen turned to Kai, “Your father never told you everything. Not because he didn’t trust you–but because the truth carried death with it.”
Adrian’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Then tell us.
Silas hesitated, then nodded. “Very well. It’s time.”
He gestured for them to sit.
They gathered inside the main hall, incense burning softly in the background. Silas poured tea with steady hands, though his eyes never left Adrian.
“Long before the Medical City existed as it does now,” Shen began “there was a man known by many names. Healer. Sovereign. Tyrant. Savior.”
Kai listened, heart pounding.
“He possessed power over life itself. Not just curing illness–but commanding vitality, fate, even the boundaries between realms.”
Adrian’s fingers curled slightly.
“That man,” Silas continued, “was betrayed.”
Kai sucked in a sharp breath. “By who?”
“By those closest to him,” Silas said quietly.
“His disciples. His allies. Even the woman he swore to protect.”
The room felt colder.
“They feared him,” Silas went on. “Not because he was cruel–but because he refused to rule. He healed nations, ended plagues, corrected bloodlines… but he would not take the throne they offered him.”
Silas looked straight at Adrian.
“So they decided the world would be safer without him.”
Kai whispered, “They killed him?”
Silas nodded. “They tried.”
Adrian’s voice was calm. “And failed.”
“Yes,” Silas said. “Your soul shattered instead. Scattered across time. Reborn… again and again.”
Kai stared at Adrian as if seeing him for the first time.
“You’re saying… he’s that man?”
Silas bowed his head. “He is.”
Adrian exhaled slowly. “Then why don’t I remember?”

“Because you chose not to,” Silas replied.
“You sealed your memo
Adrian’s eyes flickered.
“You left behind a vow,” Silas continu
Kai leaned forward. “What vow?“, “!!!
Silas’s expression darkened,
The words hit Adrian like a blade.
“A woman?” Kai guessed.
“A will you could not fulfill in that lifetime.”
protect someone.”
Silas shook his head. “A bloodline.”
Adrian’s heart skipped.
“The Cole bloodline,” Silas said. “You swore to guard it across lifetimes, because your death began its decline.”
Adrian closed his eyes briefly.
Images surfaced–blurred, fragmented. A city burning. A child crying. A promise whispered into darkness.
“Did you know why I choose the Cole bloodline?” Adrian asked..
“We don’t know, all I know is you want to protect it, maybe there’s a favour a a vow I don’t know”
“But why did you keep waiting, did you believe in reincarnation, because I don’t believe it” He let out..
“I would always believe in history” he let out..
“So you stay?”
“Yes, I stayed,” Shen said softly. “I served your disciple. I protected the remnants of your knowledge. I waited.”
Kai’s fists clenched. “And the enemies?”
Silas looked up slowly. “They’re still alive.”
The incense flame flickered violently. “They rule in shadows now,
Kai’s breath caught. “The twenty–one…”
>>
“Yes,” Silas confirmed. “Some of them were there when you fell.”
The room went deathly still.
Adrian opened his eyes.
They were calm.
Too calm.
“So this challenge,” he said quietly, “was never coincidence.”
Silas shook his head. “What challenge?.”
Silas continued. “Families. Councils. Immortals.”
“I accepted a challenge to face twenty none immortals” Adrian told him…
“What?” He let out..
“Yes, he did, that’s why we’ve come looking for you. Maybe it you can tell us few things he could defeat them, Maybe he has to prepare” Kai said.

“Are you sure you’re prepared, what if they actually get rid of your again” he said, his tone showing how scared he’s.
Kai swallowed hard. “Then why come back now? Why not stay hidden?”
Adrian stood, the air around him shifted, subtle but undeniable. “Because hiding didn’t save anyone last time,” he said. “And it won’t this time either.” “and moreover this challenge was accepted without the knowledge of this history”
Silas bowed deeply again. “Then allow me to serve you once more.
Adrian looked at him. “No.”
Silas froze. “You won’t serve me,” Adrian said. “You’ll live.”
Silas’s eyes trembled.
“I won’t repeat the same mistakes,” Adrian continued calmly. “Not this life.”
The legend had returned.
And this time-
He wasn’t running.
