Chapter 107: Blood For Blood
Gianna’s POV
Dante grabbed my wrist, yanking my hand away from his face.
“Don’t,” his voice was rough. “Don’t say forgive.”
A bitter, broken laugh slipped out. He stepped back, running both hands through his hair.
“In this world, there’s no forgiveness. It’s blood for blood. Your father knew the rules the moment he pulled that trigger.” His eyes burned with pain and anger. “As long as you carry his…”
“Doesn’t it matter to you that I’m suffering too?” I cried out. “That I’m paying for something I didn’t do? Something I had no control over?”
His face hardened, not fully, just a tiny shift he couldn’t hide, and I saw it. Real pain. Real conflict. Then it disappeared.
“What matters to me,” he groaned, his voice shaking, “is that my wife is gone. That I’ll never see her again. Never hear her voice. Never…” He gritted his teeth, struggling with the words. “What matters is that my daughter will grow up without her mother. That every milestone, every birthday, every moment, her mother won’t be there.” His voice dropped to a murmur. ”
That’s what matters.”
Tears ran down my face as I shook all over.
He took a breath. When he spoke again, his voice was colder.
“As long as you have Lorenzo’s blood in your body, I cannot see you as innocent. You’re his daughter. You carry his name. His
legacy.”
He looked straight at me. “His sins. And you carry the punishment for them. You’ll pay for what he did.”
“So what does that mean?” My voice shook. “What are you going to do to me?”
“Whatever I have to.”
“That’s not an answer.”
“It’s the only one you’re getting.”
What the hell was that supposed to mean?
“Do you hate me?”
The words slipped out. I didn’t even know why I said them. I already knew the answer. Of course he does. So why did I need him to admit it out loud?
He didn’t speak. He just let out a small, low scoff.
The sound sank straight into me. My chest felt like it was caving in.
So it’s true. He really does. All this time… every soft look… every kiss… this morning when he washed me so gently… it was nothing. All of it was him using me. Preparing me. Keeping me where he wanted me.
I swallowed hard, needing to force the entire truth into the open.
“Enough with the questions.”
He didn’t argue. He didn’t defend himself. He didn’t tell me I was wrong.
He just dismissed me. Completely unmoved by my terror.
And that’s when it clicked. So clear it made the room tilt for a second.
I’m never getting out of this. He’s never going toll me anything real. He’ll never calm my fears, never give me answers, never

give me even a tiny bit of hope.
He’ll keep me guessing. Keep me scared. Keep me wondering every single day if this is the day he finally decides I’m no longer useful.
And only God knew how long that would last.
My legs felt weak. My breath came out uneven.
I can’t marry him. I can’t live like this. I can’t breathe like this.
That thought crashed into me so fast it left me dizzy.
My eyes drifted across the room. I wasn’t really focused on anything. I was just searching for something, anything, that could make this stop.
That’s when I saw it.
A small pocket knife on the dresser by the window.
Simple. Plain. Probably for opening letters.
But sharp enough.
My heart started beating so hard it felt like it was shaking my whole chest.
No. Don’t think like that. Don’t go there.
But the thought wouldn’t leave. It wrapped around my mind like poison ivy, choking out every other rational thought.
Because what was the other option?
Marry him? Live scared every day?
Wait for him to decide when and how my life ended?
At least this way, I’d have control.
It would be my choice. Not his. Not my father’s.
Blood for blood, right?
That’s what he wanted. That’s what this world demanded.
My father took his wife. His love. The mother of his child.
Maybe if I killed myself, it would be enough. Maybe he’d finally be satisfied. Maybe this endless nightmare would finally be over and everyone could move on.
My feet moved on their own. One step toward the dresser.
“Gianna.”
Dante’s voice cut through the fog clouding my mind, confused, but it sounded distant. Like he was underwater. Or maybe I was.
Another step. My hand extended, trembling so badly I could barely keep it steady.
“Gianna, what are you doing?”
I could hear the change in his tone now, the edge of panic creeping in. But I couldn’t stop. Wouldn’t stop.
My fingers closed around the cool metal handle. The weight of it felt both insignificant and monumental at the same time.
“Gianna.” His voice was harder now, commanding. “Put it down.
I turned around slowly to face him, the knife clutched in my shaking hand.

His entire body had gone rigid. Every muscle tensed. His eyes were locked on the knife, and for the first time since he’d walked into this room tonight, for the first time maybe ever, I saw genuine fear flash across his face.
“You know what?” I flipped the knife open with trembling fingers. The blade caught the light, gleaming. “Let me make this easy for you.”
“Gianna, don’t…” He took a step forward, his hand reaching out like he could somehow stop me from across the room.
“Stay back!” I jerked away, stumbling backward until my spine hit the wall. “Don’t come any closer!”
He froze mid–step, his hand still extended. “Put the knife down.”
“Why?” A bitter, broken laugh escaped my throat. “So you can decide how I die instead? So you can control that too?”
“That’s not…”
“Blood for blood, right?” I cut him off. My hand was shaking violently as I brought the blade closer to my wrist. I could feel my pulse throbbing beneath my skin. “That’s what you want. That’s what this whole thing is about.”
“Gianna, listen to me…”
“No!” Tears streamed down my face, hot and endless. “No, you listen to me for once! My father took your wife. He destroyed your life. He murdered the woman you loved.”
My voice cracked, breaking apart completely.
“So I’ll take my life,” I whispered. The blade pressed against my skin now, not cutting yet, but ready. “And then it’ll all be over. The debt will be paid. You’ll have your blood. And everyone can finally be free of me.”
“Gianna, please. Put it down.”
“Give me one reason why I should.” My whole body was shaking now. “Give me one good reason why I should keep living this
nightmare.”
He stepped toward me again, slow and careful, like any sudden move would make me snap. “Because I’m telling you to.”
“That’s not a reason!” The scream ripped out of me. “That’s just another order. Another command. You don’t get to control this too!”
“I’m not…” His voice dropped to something raw and desperate I’d never heard from him before. “I’m not trying to control anything, Gianna. I’m trying to stop you from hurting yourself.”
My hand trembled as I stared down at my wrist, at the blade pressed against my skin. One quick slice. That’s all it would take.
My mind tore between two impossible choices, living to fight another day, or giving in because I was too afraid to face what
came next.
I looked up at him, at the fear in his eyes, the desperation written across his face.
“Too late.”
The knife moved.
