Chapter 50
The Wood–Fire Spirit wasn’t rare.
But for an Apothecary, it was pretty handy.
For anyone plagued by cold sickness, it was a top–notch medicine.
The stronger the Wood–Fire Spirit, the more powerful its effects
Linda wasn’t expecting much from the stash in Dream–Weaver ens.

But when Emmett mentioned there was a tier 5 Wood–Fire Spirit in Cloud Cave, she knew there was no way she’d miss out.
The image of Mack always training on the snowy mountain flashed through her mind. She thought, ‘Guess it’s time I brought my mentor a little present.
“Found it.” Emmett’s excited voice rang out.
Linda nearly stepped right into the ward before her instincts pulled her back. She caught herself and asked, “Where is it?”
“Found a tier 2 Wood–Fire Spirit,” Emmett called out.
Linda frowned. “Tier 2? Wasn’t it supposed to be tier 5?”
“It’s tier 2. There are also pearls, spirit shells, and a few artifact crafting materials,” Emmett explained.
Emmett, still in his black stone form, stretched out his tiny arms and held up a box that was way bigger than he was, offering it past the ward to Linda.
“Want it?” he asked.
Linda shot back without missing a beat, “Yes.”
“Which ones?” Emmett asked.
Linda said calmly, “All of them.
“You’re the spirit of the Amethyst Band now. You should be able to open the entrance and collect everything inside, right?”
Emmett and Linda exchanged a look.
Emmett exclaimed, “Right! How did I forget about that?”
Right away, Emmett puffed himself up, and a slow whirlpool spun up in his core. In no time, he’d swept up all the treasures and stashed them inside the Amethyst Band.
Then he scurried out.
But when he touched the ward, he was suddenly bounced back inside.
Emmett called out, “Oh no, something in the vault triggered the ward. I’m stuck in here.”
Linda reached into the ward, grabbed the stone, and pulled it out
At that exact moment, the ward suddenly erupted, unleashing a surge of destructive force that came crashing straight for
her.

But Linda didn’t stick around. She slipped right into the Amethyst Band, which vanished into a puff of dust on the ground, swept up by the raging storm and sent flying far into the distanc
Inside the Amethyst Band, both Linda and Emmett were caught in the chaos, their hearts still pounding from the close call.
Emmett looked at Linda.
Her left hand was covered in blood.
Charms were etched across her skin. Clearly, she’d thrown herself into the ward, grabbed him, and hauled him out just in time.
Emmett shuffled awkwardly. “Are you okay?”
Linda wiped the wound with a handkerchief. “I’m fine.”
She brushed it off like it was no big deal.
Emmett couldn’t help but think, ‘She’s so young, but she’s got that calculating look about her, and she almost never cracks a smile.
‘Honestly, whenever Linda smiles, she is probably plotting something.”
Emmett just sighed inwardly.
With all the chaos still raging outside, Linda wasn’t about to rush out. She stayed inside the Amethyst Band and gave the stash Emmett had brought in a quick once–over.
There was plenty of loot, but her focus was locked on the Wood–Fire Spirit.
It was indeed tier 2.
“There should still be a tier 5 one somewhere,” Emmett said.
Linda murmured, “Let’s try the second path next.”
After the storm outside had calmed down, Linda stepped out of the Amethyst Band, with Emmett in his stone form sitting quietly on her shoulder.
“Looks like it’s been leveled,” Linda remarked.
The stone chamber up ahead was totally flattened.
Clearly, Linda’s sneaky move had ticked off the spirit guarding this place. The wards went berserk and wiped everything out.
Linda considered for a moment. “Guess I’ll have to do things differently next time.”
Emmett nodded. “Yeah, definitely.”
They made their way back and stopped at the fork between the second and third paths. Linda didn’t hesitate for a second.
She went straight for the second route. But compared to the first, this one was a real maze.
It actually turned out to be a looping corridor.
Linda kept walking for a bit, then came to an abrupt halt.

Emmett said, “Looks like we’ve looped back again.”

Linda frowned, her eyes sharp. “We came in from the fork and just kept going straight. There weren’t any other forks along the way. So how did we circle back?”
Emmett wiggled his little feet. “Yeah, that’s right.”
Linda remained silent.
She simply kept walking.
This time, she took her time with each step, feeling out the ground beneath her. She noticed the faint changes in mana underfoot, making a mental note of every shift.
Emmett curiously tilted his head, watching Linda.
Her eyes shone beneath the veil, sometimes deep in thought, sometimes suddenly bright with understanding.
In those eyes, Emmett saw so many emotions flicker by.
Then she said, “I’ve got it.
Linda looked up. “This is Star Maze Enchantment.”
She let out a quiet laugh. “Figures, it’s this one.”
“What’s that?” Emmett asked.
“It’s a sort of Enchantment,” Linda replied.
Emmett watched as Linda stepped in a peculiar rhythm. This time, nothing got in her way.
She reached the stone chamber without a hitch, and there wasn’t even a ward blocking the entrance.
It turned out the maze was the challenge.
Linda slipped right into the stone chamber smoothly.
The stone chamber was empty, except for a box.
Linda looked around, and her eyes landed on the box. She reached out to touch it, but a burst of mana pushed back at her. It didn’t seem threatening, though.
Linda took a half–step back.
“Impressive. Someone actually made it through the second trial and showed up before me. Looks like you’ve got real potential,” a voice echoed through the chamber.
Linda eyed the phantom before her, her last golden charm at the ready in her palm.
“Is that a spirit?” Linda asked.
Emmett quickly chimed in, “Nope, it’s just a remnant memory.”
Linda frowned, sizing up the figure for a moment. Once she was sure there was no threat, she dropped her guard. She locked eyes with the old man in gray robes, and he gazed right back at her.
It felt as if, after countless years apart, he was truly seeing her standing there before him.

“Kid, you’re here for the Wood–Fire Spirit, aren’t you? Tell me, do you dream of becoming a legendary Apothecary?” the old
man asked.
Linda replied, “Nope.”
The old man announced grandly, “I knew you wanted to. I, DreamWeaver, spent my whole life as the unrivaled Apothecary, and never met a worthy opponent.
“It’s a shame that in my twilight years, I realized I had no student to inherit my mantle. But now, someone has finally cleared my first two trials and stands before me.
“You are the one fate has picked to be my successor.”
She asked, “Is this a fixed protocol? Do I even get a say in any of this?”
The old man gave her a kind smile, making it clear that refusing simply wasn’t an option.
Linda replied in a flat tone, “Alright, I want to.”
The old man’s face lit up with excitement. “I knew you wanted to. I, DreamWeaver, spent my whole life as the unrivaled Apothecary…”
Linda cut him off. “Enough with the speech. Get to the point.”
No matter what, she had to go through the whole routine before anything else would happen. This was just a leftover memory from the original owner of the Veil. Honestly, it wasn’t all that sentient.
As Linda made her choices step by step, more stuff popped up in the box ahead.
There was a spirit orb.
“This is the sum of all my Apothecary wisdom. From this day on, it belongs to you,” the old man declared.
Linda paused, her eyes lingering on the old man in gray. In his expectant gaze, she saw something more.
Linda thought, ‘Wait, he is actually sentient.‘
