But after taking just two steps, blue dream thread whipped around Linda’s waist, locking her in place.
Linda was about to tear the threads apart and bolt, but Claudio let out a low laugh behind her. “If you break those threads, Laura and the others are done for.”
Linda whipped around, shooting Claudio a frosty glare.
She let the dream thread pull her right up to Claudio.
Linda was on her feet, while Claudio was sitting.
Claudio gave the dream thread a gentle tug, forcing Linda to crouch down until she was eye level with him. Linda said coldly, “I don’t believe you.”
Claudio raised an eyebrow. “Why don’t you believe me?”
“If you really remembered your previous life, you would’ve killed me already,” Linda said calmly.
Even though she was bound, she boldly lifted Claudio’s chin with her finger.
She added, “Because in the end, I betrayed you.”
Claudio stared right back at Linda.
Their eyes locked.
Linda’s gaze was clear and steady, while Claudio’s eyes were dark and impossible to read.
She wasn’t afraid of dying.
If they threw down now, it was unknown who would come out on top. She wouldn’t stand a chance against Claudio in her previous life, but things had changed.
Worst case, Linda could just tap into Dermot’s power and take Claudio out for good.
Though she would lose out on a colleague, it would mean a lot less trouble for her in the future.
Linda’s aura was surging, growing stronger by the second.
If it weren’t for the dream thread holding her back, she would’ve broken free already. Her eyes never backed down, not for a moment.
After a long moment, the dream thread finally loosened. Claudio said, “What are you even talking about, Linda?
“I don’t get it. What do you mean a previous life? Did the Dream–Weaver Fens get you all turned around or something?

“We only live once.”
Linda stared into Claudio’s eyes, trying to figure out what kind of trick he was pulling. She tapped the dream thread and said, “Undo it.”
Claudio loosened half the threads, but the rest were still wrapped around her.
Linda could stand up now, but she still couldn’t leave.
Claudio let out a soft sigh. “Linda, I’m honestly exausted right now.”
Linda smiled. “Don’t make me slap you.”
Claudio didn’t budge. “I really can’t move. Take a closer look.”
Only then did Linda finally take in Claudio’s surroundings.
Claudio sat at the center, with blue dream threads stretching out from behind him.
The entire space behind him was filled with degree upon degree of tangled dream threads, densely woven together like a spiderweb gone wild.
The one caught in that web was Claudio.
Linda sucked in a sharp breath.
Dermot and Emmett were both left speechless.
‘There’s so much of it!‘ Linda thought.
Linda asked, “How did you gather so much dream thread? Did you pull everyone from the Veil into this?”
Claudio looked genuinely troubled. “Not quite.”
Just as Linda was about to breathe a sigh of relief, Claudio’s tone suddenly lifted. “But this dream seems to be able to cover the entire Veil.
“I sort of accidentally let it expand. Linda, what do we do now?”
‘What do we do? Simple. I can just take you outm and everything’s fixed,‘ Linda thought.
Linda said in a raspy voice, “What exactly did you just do?”
Claudio said, looking all innocent with that friendly smile, “Oh, nothing. I just accidentally broke an Enchantment. Am I in trouble?”
Linda clenched her fists, fighting the urge to sock Claudio in the face.
“Undo it,” Linda said.
Claudio blinked at her, looking all innocent.

Linda turned her head to Dermot inside the lantern. “Undo it!”
Dermot got to work right away. He couldn’t handle all those dream threads, but the dozen or so threads binding Linda were easy. After a bit of effort, Linda was finally free.
Claudio’s eyes never left Linda.
Linda lifted the lantern and peered at the dream threads. She could see shimmering lights flowing through the blue threads.
Inside was all the messy human feelings and desires.
All the dreams of everyone in the Dream–Weaver Fens were tangled up right here.
Linda believed that everyone was trapped in their own dreams at the moment and probably couldn’t tell if it was real or just a dream.
They might even be fighting for their lives in there.
Linda cast Claudio a sideways look.
She thought, ‘No matter whether he had time–traveled or not, Claudio is as ruthless as ever when it comes to
mages.’
“Where are Laura and the others?” Linda asked.
Claudio replied while flashing an innocent smile, “No idea. There’s just too many threads.”
“Can you undo it?” Linda asked.
Claudio raised an eyebrow. “Not a chance.”
Dermot said, “There’s just way too many threads. This guy’s tangled it all up. If you want me to untangle it, it’ll take me a few years.”
Linda thought, ‘A few years? The Dream–Weaver Fens only stays open for a month!
‘And the whole Veil can’t hold out that long.‘
With Claudio messing around like this, Linda believed that the Veil was probably falling apart even faster.
Linda tried to untangle the mess, but she had no idea where to even start. The threads were a hopeless tangle.
She couldn’t tell whose those threads belonged to. If she accidentally tugged at the ones tied to Laura or the others, it would be devastating.
Linda shut her eyes, not daring to think about it.
She pulled her hand back and turned to walk over to Claudio.
Claudio had been watching her every move. When she came back, he arched his brow.

“Linda, you’ve been through my dreamscape. What do you think? Do you think I have any chance of geuing out?*
He gave Linda a playful look, clearly enjoying the moment.
Linda replied coldly, “Yes.”
Claudio was momentarily stunned.
Linda placed the lantern down, took a seat right across from Claudio, and looked him straight in the eye. “Take me with you. Let’s dive into the dream together.”
Claudio frowned, sizing her up, as if silently asking what she was really planning,

Claudio hesitated for a split second, his fingers pausing as he weighed whether Linda was actually serious.
Linda said coldly, “If we don’t break out of this mess, we’re both going down together.”
“Well, if I’ve got you with me, I guess I can live with that, Claudio joked, a playful smirk on his face.
Linda gave a cold, mocking laugh. “Really?”
Claudio wasn’t looking to die, either.
But at the moment, there was no other option. Linda was the only one who could come and go in Claudio’s dreamscape, untouched by its effects.
“Alright then, Linda, looks like I’ll be counting on you to watch my back,” Claudio said.
He tapped his finger, sending a streak of blue light right into Linda’s brow.
This time, he dragged Linda into the dreamscape with him, making her one of the dreamers too.
Linda’s eyes snapped open.
It was still that night when everyone from Claudio’s family was slaughtered.
Claudio was still that three–year–old boy.
It seemed that he couldn’t get out of that place.

gently cradled them in her arms as she brought them out.
She came over to Claudio.
“This is what you wanted,” Linda said softly.
Claudio, just three years old, stood there in shock, not knowing what to do.
Linda gently said, “Go ahead and cry if you need to.”
Claudio didn’t cry. His eyes were red–rimmed, but not a single tear fell.
Linda watched him quietly as he cleaned the blood off his parents‘ faces, her attention shifting to the front gate.
Claudio noticed too. Linda could see a trace of reluctance in his eyes.
Linda remembered how he’d tried to avoid that moment before.
“You don’t want to join the First Unity Coven?” Linda asked.
Claudio looked up at Linda. For a moment, she saw something fierce flicker in his eyes.
He wanted nothing to do with First Unity Coven.
