Widi Sophia. We went in the King’s Temple, I answer, She lets out a sigh of relief,
“There was an attack in your wing. We’ve taken care of it, but some of the staff didn’t make it, and we have a lot of wounded.”
“We have to go, Sophia immediately places her hand on my arm. “Hurry”
“We’re on our way? I agree, Sophia is on her phone before her grandmother says another word.
Dr Polucci, I know it’s late, but there’s been an attack” she pauses. “I’ll meet you there. I’m not far, she hangs up the phone and looks over at me. “You have to drop me off at my car so I can get my supplies. Do you know where it is?”
“It’s already at your grandmother’s,” I nod
As soon as we arrive, before I can make it through the front gate, she throws the door open.
“Go, I’ll be right behind you” she promises.
Every instinct in me wants to say no, but I’ve trained her myself. And this is what she’s been working for her entire life. I nod, and she takes off running towards the house. I head towards the castle. As soon as I arrive, my guards are quick to come
“My King” Randal, my chief of security, is on me as I make my way inside. He stops me by stretching his hand out.
“What?” I demand.
“There are explosives set up. The shadows are working to deactivate them”
“You’re telling me that someone came into my home and planted fucking explosives without anyone knowing?” I grab him by his jacket
“It was one of the staff members, sir. A wolf,” he says tightly, “And by the looks of things, the devices planted have been there For a while.”
“Sophia, over here,” I turn around when I hear someone shout her name.
Sophia has a luggage case draped over her shoulder. She’s slipping on a pair of latex gloves, and her hair is pulled back into a bum to keep out of her face. She’s completely focused on the task at hand.
“Grant the medics assistance. I want everyone inside evacuated, and the entire castle searched. Where the fuck is that wolf?”

“He’s with the Queen in Greenstone, My King. He’s on his way back
Thank you. Randall Get things moving I stop him before he takes off. ‘I want a full team of security out here medics. No one touches the Major General’s daughter
“My King” he bows and excuses himself. I quickly make my way over to Sophia, who is helping Aimee.
You are not to wander off by yourself, I say when she spots me. Tm going inside to look for your grandmother and Ivar. You don’t go inside. There are explosives going off in there, as if to make a point, one goer on the upper floors. Do you understand me?”
“You shouldn’t go in there, she reaches for my hand out of instinct. I flash her my affinity to remind her.
Tl be fine, Soph. Stay with Aimee. I don’t need to be worried about you, too, I place my hand on her head.
The scar on my chest flares, and I back away before I do something we’re both going to regret in front of onlookers. I excuse myself and head inside. The guards and the staff are helping the wounded get outside. There is smoke everywhere.
It looks like the first couple of floors were the first to go off. I reach out, extinguishing the flames. I go through the rooms to find they’re empty. I move quickly through the hallways, taking out the fire to lessen the damage.
“Help”
There are people on the tenth floor. I open windows as I go to get rid of some of this smoke. Once I clear a way for them to get to the stairway, I begin to look for those who are still trapped in here.
“Can you hear me? Make some noise so I can get to you!” I shout. Banging starts in some of the rooms. I break down the doors and pull at the flames, keeping them locked in here. This way. Head to the stairs!”
A group of women rushes out of the rooms and follows in the direction I’m pointing them to. Some of them stop to thank me, but I brush them off and keep looking for anyone else. I clear the really bad fires.
“My King, this is as far as you go. There are more devices up ahead,” one of the guards stops me. “It’s best you head back down to let us finish deactivating them. Thank you for clearing out the flames and civilians.”
“Are you sure?” I ask as I finish opening the windows. He nods. “I’ll find the Major General. Let me know if there’s anything
else I can do.”
Just stay safe. These started in your bedroom,” he glances back at some of his men. “Emilio, escort the King to Major General Helvig
Ivar and Zaraphine are both in the library when we arrive. The two of them are covered in ashes. I can smell Zaraphine’s blood from where I am. I know Ivar might have taken damage from debris, but not the flames. Our affinity comes from our father.
“Are you still hurt?” I ask, going over to her.
“It’s not as bad. Sophia isn’t with you, is she?”
“She’s outside with the other medics helping the wounded”
‘Good, I don’t need her to freak out over this, she sighs.

“Tied up in the bath,” she glances over at the restroom door. “She came back here claiming her daughter left some luggage behind. Ivar was with her. He’s a little out of it.”
I go over to my brother. He looks exhausted. His eyes are bloodshot, and there are splinters on the side of his head. He’s completely covered in ashes.
“Can you hear me?” I ask him. He nods, but he doesn’t say anything. He’s beyond pissed. “Emilio, get Sophia Helvig up here. Tell her Ivar is hurt.”
“My King,” he bows and takes off.
“She’s going to freak out,” he chokes out. His voice is raspy.
“Sophia isn’t the type to falter like that. You should know that by now. What happened?”
“I was escorting her to the maid’s room on your floor. She was part of Jazmin’s team. When we got close to your room, she ran in there. Before I can stop her, she set them off. If we weren’t fireproof, we’d both be dead.”
“Is she in any condition to be interrogated?”
“I don’t give a fuck what condition she’s in, Brother,” he growls. “Get it out of her.”
