As the elevator doors slid shut, Marina finally looked away and rubbed her temples. She was just about to head back to Lavern’s office when she suddenly remembered that Daron was still waiting for her in her own office.
She took a moment to pull herself together, then went upstairs to face Daron.
Every time Daron saw Lavern, he would distrust her, which was real trouble for her.
She hated how Daron never seemed to trust her.
Daron always saw her as someone who let love cloud her judgment, thinking that as long as Lavern apologized, she’d forgiv him for everything.
When Marina walked into her office, Daron was sitting upright in her chair, lost in thought as he stared out the window. His eyes were cold and unreadable.
Daron glanced at her, his eyes icy and proud.
“Is it taken care of?” he asked.
Marina shook her head and replied, “Not yet.”
Daron let out a cold laugh and shot her a look. “You stirred up so much trouble, and you still haven’t handled it? Can’t through with it, or are you still hung up on him?” he asked.
Marina had already expected what Daron would say when she walked in, so she remained extra calm.
She lowered her eyes, looking completely composed.
To Daron, her seven years with Lavern were already her biggest shame.
She didn’t bother explaining and just switched straight to business.

“The plan got exposed. I was afraid Zamora Group’s audit team wouldn’t get here in time, so I led my team down to snatch. the documents and leave behind more proof,” she said.
Daron’s gaze was very sharp, like he could see right through any lie or disguise.
Marina didn’t feel panic at all under his intense stare.
Honestly, she was relieved she hadn’t tried to lie to him.
Since Daron just sat there in silence, Marina had to keep talking, “From what we’ve found, Jasper is super generous to outsiders, but he’s stingy with the people close to him, whether it’s his wife or his brothers.
“Lyle’s wife was diagnosed with leukemia last month. He asked Jasper for help with the medical bills, but Jasper turned him. down. We tried to investigate it from here, but Jasper got wise to it, and our plan blew up.”
The chill in Daron’s eyes slowly faded.
“So, did you find anything useful in Lavern’s office?” he asked.
Marina lowered her gaze and shook her head.
“Lavern got a heads–up from Jasper. By the time we got there, he’d already locked the office and deleted everything from his

computer,” she said.
Daron looked up at her.
Marina kept her eyes lowered and continued, “I checked Lavern’s computer. Nothing’s been ruined. I’ve already had them secured, just waiting for your go–ahead.”
Zamora Group was crawling with geniuses, especially in the IT department.
If Lavern really wiped anything crucial, the techs could recover it, no problem.
Daron let out a cold snort. “Not bad, at least you had the sense to come to me.”
Daron was heading back to Vrufield the next day. Marina had planned to wait until he got bak to report all this.
But with all the drama surrounding Lavern, Daron was already starting to doubt her, so she figured she’d better go ahead and report everything now.
She didn’t want any suspicion creeping in between her and Daron.
She said, “Lavern always carries a laptop with him, but when I asked him to hand it over just now, he didn’t even put up a fight.
“I suspect he’s already erased all the data from his laptop.”
Daron’s eyes were deep and unreadable as he slowly turned his chair, fixing his gaze on Marina.
“So?” he asked.
Marina met his gaze. Even though Daron hadn’t said anything harsh, she could feel an invisible pressure weighing on her.
She parted her lips, unsure what to say, and just lowered her head.
Right now, standing in front of Daron, she felt like an employee who’d messed up with nothing to show for it. There was no room to make excuses.
She took a deep breath, scrambling to figure out her next move, hoping to give Daron the perfect response. But before she could say a word, he stood up and walked right over to her.
Marina was just about to look up when Daron reached out and tilted her chin up, forcing her to meet his gaze.
She had no choice but to look him in the eye.
His eyes were deep and unreadable, but Marina could feel his annoyance.
“So, just because you can’t find any evidence, you’re just going to let him off the hook?” Daron added.
Marina shook her head. “No.”
Daron let out a cold laugh. “No? Then why can’t you give me a straight answer?
“I remember when you came to me for a job. You were sharp, articulate, and had a clear plan in mind.
“Is this all you’ve got? Or is it just that whenever Lavern’s involved, you can’t even think straight?”
Marina’s eyes
flickered, and his words made her chest tighten with frustration.

‘Til handle it,” she said.
Daron’s face was stern as he asked, “How exactly do you plan to do that?”
Marina furrowed her brows, her eyes resolute as she met his gaze.

She said, “Every move leaves a trace, every action leaves a sign. If he did something, I refuse to believe he covered his tracks perfectly.
“Lyle has already handed over all the documents he had to us…”
Daron’s face was cold as he spoke in a low, serious voice, “That evidence only proves the Slav family scammed Ross Group out of their investment. It doesn’t pin anything on Lavern.
“After all these years in the business world, do you really think he wouldn’t know how to use that to get himself off the hook?”
Marina’s eyes darkened, emotions flashing in them. She had to admit, she’d really missed that.
She stared at Daron and asked slightly, “What should I do next? Just tell me, Mr. Zamora.”
Daron looked into her clear, bright eyes, his own gaze growing even colder.
He stared at her for a few seconds, then finally let go of her chin and turned away, walking over to the window with his back to her.
Marina couldn’t read his expression at all, so she just stood there in silence, waiting for him to speak.
After a long moment, Daron’s deep voice finally broke the silence.
“All I want is 80% of Ross Group’s shares. How you get them is up to you. Whether you decide to let Lavern go or not, that’s none of my business,” he said.
“Any assets you manage to recover, I’ll distribute your share based on your previous holdings and transfer it directly to your account,” he added.
Marina froze for a second, a sudden chill creeping up from deep inside her.
Daron’s voice was so cold and distant that she couldn’t help but feel like he was trying to draw a line between them.
“I understand, Mr. Zamora,” she replied.
A dull ache crept through her chest as Marina dropped her gaze, burying the gloom in her eyes.
No matter that Daron had his back to her, she kept her emotions locked down tight, refusing to let even a hint slip through.
