My Human

Chapter 81

Kane’s POV

The icy air burned in my lungs as I crouched low behind the crates, scanning the dark expanse of Dimitri’s compound. The faint crackle of torches above

made the shadows dance along the walls, but it wasn’t enough to reveal our presence. The snipers still loomed above us, oblivious for now…

This was it

I gripped my knife tightly, its weight solid and reassuring in my hand. My wolf snarled in anticipation, the urge to shift and tear through this place clawing

at my restraint. But right now that would be suicide

Silent and swift. That was how we’d win this

Viktor and his group disappeared into the shadows on the left, their movements fluid like ghosts. Seth’s team slipped away to the right, their forms blending into the darkness. I stayed behind with Purcell and a handful of men, our target being the rear towers knowing that we would have the longest way to

travel

Purcell’s breathing was shallow, his nervous energy almost tangible. I grabbed his shoulder, forcing him to look at me

Stay quiet,I hissed, my eyes locking onto his as I placed my finger on to my lips to show what I meant. You screw this up, and you won’t live to regret it.I state bluntly, using my thumb to slice an imaginary line across my throat, using sign to translate my words for myself

He nodded frantically, his pale face slick with sweat despite the biting cold as he immediately understood my warning

For someone so quick to assault my future mate, he was a complete fucking coward around a fellow wolf

We moved forward like predators, each step deliberate and soundless. The snow muffled our boots, but every crunch beneath my feet felt deafening. My wolf was a coiled spring inside me, ready to explode at the slightest provocation

Purcell led us through the maze of crates and supply barrels, his slim frame darting between cover. The first rear watchtower loomed ahead in the distance, its shadow stretching across the compound like a warning. I finally spotted the sniper’s outline, his head tilted slightly as if listening out for something

I raised a hand, signaling for the others to stop. The group froze instantly, their breaths barely audible. My focus locked onto the sniper, and I allowed my wolf’s senses to sharpen. The faintest rustle of fabric, the metallic click of a rifle being adjusted I heard it all

He’s calm. Too calm

I turned to Purcell and pointed to the base of the tower, then motioned for him to move. He hesitated, his eyes wide with fear, but a low growl from my

throat had him scrambling forward

Purcell reached the ladder first, his thin fingers gripping the rungs as he began to climb. The sniper didn’t even glance down. He was too busy scanning the perimeter, oblivious to the real threat coming from below probably not believing that there would be any other way for us to get inside…

Go, I whispered to the man behind me. He nodded, clutching his knife as he followed Purcell up the ladder. One by one, we ascended, the rickety structure

creaking under our combined weight

The wind picked up as we neared the platform, the cold biting at my exposed skin. My pulse thundered in my ears, each beat syncing with the slow

measured breaths I took to stay calm

When I reached the top, I crouched low, my knife ready. The sniper’s back was still to us, his attention fixed on the fence line. I could hear his soft

muttering, Russian words I didn’t understand but didn’t need to

Purcell edged closer, his hand shaking as he pointed toward the man. I grabbed his wrist and shook my head, motioning for him to step back. He’d done

enough. This part was mine

With the precision of a predator, I moved

My knife flashed in the dim light, slicing cleanly across the sniper’s throat. His body jerked once, a choked gasp escaping his lips before he slumped forward

blood pooling around his boots

I caught him before he could fall, lowering him silently onto the platform. The metallic scent of blood filled the air, stirring my wolf’s hunger

One down, I muttered under my breath. You three stay in this tower and keep an eye on him! I’ll move to the newith the rest!I explain the plan, deciding to leave Purcell here under the watch of my men deciding that I didn’t want to be around him for much longer

The rest of us climbed back down, before I signaled to them, and they began moving toward the next target with me

Again, we climbed the last tower, this time finding two snipers instead of one which I’m assuming was due to this tower being stationed directly in front of the main gatesbut nonetheless, we had them in seconds flat

One of them managed a brief yell, but before he could utter another sound, I had my knife stabbed in to the side of his throat as he clutched it desperately

Feeling accomplished, having now conquered all towers, I froze when hearing a faint noise coming from one of the dead bodies. I moved towards it swiftly, as soon as the noise reached my ears a crackle of static coming from the radio clipped to the dead sniper’s vest

—

Otchet?a voice demanded, sharp and impatient

My chest tightened

What did he say?!I turn with the device in my hands, as one of the Russian men stepped forward to take it from me

Prozrachnyy! The man spoke back, as I squinted at him, not knowing what was going on

The Russian man with us could barely speak two words of English, and in that moment, I knew that I just had to trust him

Clear! Clear! The Russian attempted to say, pointing down at the radio in his hands before offering me a thumbs up to say he had handled it

I nodded, showing him that I believed him, taking a moment to breathe and steady my racing adrenaline

This was the calm before the storm, the moment when everything teetered on the edge of chaos

The moment stretched, the tension thick as the snow falling around us. I crouched low in the watchtower as the others followed my lead, our eyes sweeping over the compound for any sign of movement or threat

The snow fell heavier now, cloaking the world in white and muffling every sound. Dimitri’s extra men were seeming to be nowhere in sight tonight. The weather had obviously worked in our favor, helping to keep the majority of them indoors

The Russian soldier who’d handled the radio gave me another thumbs up, his face pale but resolute. My wolf itched to keep moving, to strike while we had the upper hand, but I forced myself to wait for the others to turn up

This operation wasn’t just about brute strength; it was about precision and precision required patience despite how much I struggled to harbour such

skill

I glanced down from the tower. My extra men being stationed below as they huddled together behind crates and barrels near the main gate, their forms

barely visible against the snowcovered ground

We had managed to locate a control switch by the gates, a large green button that would allow Kion and his men entry without hassle

Viktor and Seth’s teams were no doubt also in position on the other sides, their towers dark and silent from what I could see

All that remained now was to wait for Alpha Kion’s other teams to close in

We had successfully paved the way for them, making things as easy as we possibly could for the attack

The minutes dragged on, each one a test of my restraint. My wolf’s instincts screamed at me to act out, to unleash the fury simmering beneath my skinto go and sniff out Dimitri myself

But instead, I reminded myself that this was Kion’s victory to take, not my own

Purcell’s absence was a welcome relief to me. The slimy bastard was likely still cowering over in the first tower, his nerves shot down to hell

He had done well at helping us so far, but I still didn’t trust him….

The distant howl of wind filled the silence, carrying with it the faintest hint of movement beyond the fences. My ears twitched, catching the sound of boots crunching and shifting against the snow in a steady rhythm

My pulse quickened

They’re coming,I murmured, my voice low

Through the falling snow, I spotted faint shapes moving beyond the compound’s outer perimeter. They were disciplined, their steps measured and deliberate, slipping through the storm like shadows

It was Kion and his men from group one

This was it

We were already inside, the snipers were neutralised, and Kion’s forces were ready to strike from the outside too increasing our numbers and our chances

Dimitri’s compound was a fortress, but tonight, it would fall

The storm masked their approach, the whistling of the wind covering the faint noises of their movements. It was Dimitri’s arrogance that would cost him his power tonight. He hadn’t prepared for thisan attack driven by the raw hatred of his own brother, a vendetta born from years of betrayal and bloodshed
