My Human
Chapter 74
Kane’s POV
The sound of thick Russian accents was prominent as I descended down the staircase, each step measured and deliberate.
My thoughts were still back with Tessa, the memory of her tear–streaked face lingering like a phantom I couldn’t shake as my inner wolf roared for me to go back to her, having left her upset like I did.
But it was for the best.
She would be safe here, and that was my number one priority!
The sounds of the voices drifted closer to me from the ground floor as I eventually joined them – the Russian flying around, sounding sharp and clipped, carrying the unmistakable weight of authority.
When I reached the open front door, the scene unfolded before me like the prelude to a storm.
Alpha Kion stood at the center of the room, his broad shoulders commanding attention as he delegated orders to his pack. His voice was steady but forceful, and even though I didn’t understand a word of what he was saying, the air of resolve around him was clear. Wolves snapped to attention, nodding and shifting into small groups as he continued to speak and they followed him; clearly having masses of respect for their own Alpha.
I hated to admit it, but Alpha Kion was starting to grow on me the more time that I had spent here with him, witnessing his morals and how he fought to
the better his pack – it was respectable to say
least.

I would most definitely be open to having him as a future ally to my own pack back home – since he had stepped up to help me when I had first arrived here in Russia; despite not knowing anything about me other than my reputation. He had done the right thing, even if he had anterior motives in wanting me to help him destroy his brother, but he did manage to get my future mate back to me… and for that, I would always owe him one.

“Alpha Kane!” Kion’s deep voice cut through the clamor as his piercing eyes found mine. He waved me over, his expression a mix of focus and urgency.
I approached, offering a brief nod in greeting. “Alpha Kion.”
His lips curved out into a small, tight smile, one that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “You are ready, yes?” he asked, his thick accent giving his words a capped
edge.
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” I replied, my tone even despite the storm of emotions churning inside me.
“Good,” he said, motioning for me to follow him. We stepped outside, the crisp morning air biting against my skin as we emerged into the open space – the wind whipping against us like a personal assault.
The sight that greeted me was both impressive and sobering, making the day ahead suddenly feel more real,
Vehicles lined the clearing in neat rows trucks, armored SUVs, and even a few older military rigs outfitted for rough terrain. Dozens of men milled about, checking specially designed weapons, loading supplies, and making last–minute preparations. The steady hum of engines provided a low, almost ominous backdrop to the activity.
Kion gestured toward the vehicles with a sweeping hand. “This is what we have to work with on top of your own men and our allie’s packs too. It should be move in quickly, strike more than enough to tackle this, it will simply have to do,” he said. “Your group will take the northern flank. You know what to do hard, and no hesitation as soon as we give the signal from all sides.”

I nodded, the weight of responsibility settling over me like a second skin. “Yeah, understood.”
As we moved toward the vehicles, I caught sight of Seth stepping out from the building behind us. His expression was grim, his eyes shadowed with the same pain I felt at the pit of my stomach.
He gave me a small nod, and I returned it, our shared agony unspoken but understood. He was thinking about Erin just as I was thinking about Tessa, it was clear to anybody with eyes.
We didn’t exchange words on the topic there was no point. We both knew what we were leaving behind, and dwelling on it now like lost puppies would only make the task ahead harder.
‘Here. Kion’s voice drew my attention as he stopped beside one of the vehicles, where a group of men had gathered. “This is your first team. These men know the terrain, and they will follow your lead – keeping the rest of your fighters in line.”
The wolves turned to face me, their expressions ranging from stoic to determined. Kion introduced each one, their names a blur as I focused on sizing them up. They were strong, capable, and ready for a fight all good qualities for what we were about to do.
And then he appeared…
The little rat himself…
Purcell stepped out from behind one of the trucks, his presence like a jolt to my system. My jaw clenched instinctively as I fought back the sudden surge of
anger that rose within me – begging me to put my fist through his face.
I was sick of staring at the same man who I knew had assaulted my future mate, knowing that back home, I wouldn’t have let this slide so easily.
He would’ve been hanging by the balls if it were solely up to me, but apparently, he was a ‘crucial‘ part in all of this…
Kion didn’t miss the shift in my demeanor. “You obviously remember Purcell,” he said, his tone carefully neutral but slightly teasing.
“Wish I didn’t,” I said back, my voice low and edged with venom towards the pig.
Purcell met my gaze briefly, his expression unreadable. If he felt any shame or guilt for what he’d done to Tessa, he certainly didn’t show it.
Kion stepped between us, his tone firm. “You don’t have to like him, Alpha Kane. But you do have to trust that he knows what he’s doing, at least today. He’s been to Dimitri’s compound many times before. He knows the layout inside and out.”
My eyes didn’t leave Purcell. “As long as he stays in line and does his part, then we won’t have a problem. I’ll let him live to see another day.” I shrug, as
Kion sighs.
Purcell remained quiet, hoping not to press any of my buttons, as I grumbled a few cuss words from under my breath.
I bit back the retort on the tip of my tongue, forcing myself to focus on the bigger picture. This wasn’t about me or my personal grudges. This was about the mission about taking down Dimitri and saving the women and children trapped under his hold.
Kion clapped me on the shoulder, drawing my attention back to him. “Keep your head in the game, Kane. This isn’t just about brute strength. You’ll need to be smart, strategic. And remember failure is not an option.”
I nodded, “Never in my time of being an Alpha have I ever ‘failed‘ at anything. Be assured that we will handle this swiftly!” I promise, this time earning a plastered grin from Kion.

With that, Kion stepped back, leaving me with my team. Seth moved to stand beside me, his presence a steadying force despite the tension floating in the
air.
‘Ready for this then?” he asked me, his voice quiet but firm.
I took a deep breath, letting it steady the chaos brewing inside me. “Ready.”
Together, we climbed into the lead vehicle, the engine roaring to life as we prepared to set out. The weight of what lay ahead pressed down on me, but I pushed it aside, focusing on the task at hand.
This wasn’t just about revenge. It wasn’t just about Tessa or Erin or even the other women and children.
This was about justice.
And I would see it be done before I would even consider returning back home to face my own shit storm there….
