Kane’s POV
The corridor echoed with panicked footsteps and the distant cries of freed prisoners.
We didn’t look back.
We couldn’t afford to.
We just held hope that the others would get them out of here unscathed…
Kion and Viktor flanked me on either side, both now on high alert eyes glowing, bodies tense like springs waiting to launch.
The three of us cut through the hallway like blades, stepping over fallen guards, blood pooling on the floor like paint beneath our boots.
None of us spoke.
We didn’t need to.
The hallway narrowed, the air thickening the deeper we moved into the belly of the compound. Pipes lined the ceiling overhead, some dripping, others vibrating faintly signs of the chaos Seth’s team was causing to the infrastructure of the place.
We passed a door labeled in Russian Kion glanced at it briefly but didn’t pause in his stride.
“We’re close,” he muttered in his thick accent as I nodded once.
A turn. Another flight of stairs. More hallways and labelled doors that I couldn’t even attempt to read.
The place was a maze!
But then, at last, we saw it.
A steel staircase wrapped in rust that led its way down to a large black door stamped with a thick red label in bold Cyrillic script…
Kion came to a stop at the top of the steps and tilted his head to read.
“Classified, he said grimly, one hand lifting to press against the cold metal railing. “He’s definitely in there.”
Viktor exhaled sharply, stepping up beside him. “Yes, he would be the only man to hide behind the thickest door in the country.”
I nodded with a dry laugh, rage growing slow and deep inside me. “Coward.” I spat, my hatred for the man I was yet to meet now simmering close to a boil.
Just as we started to move, a sudden clatter of feet echoed out loudly from behind us, as we all instantly turned and prepared ourselves for the next fight…
‘Seth?” I squint, as he burst around the corner, breathless but grinning like a man who’d just lit a fire under hell itself.
Four of his team were behind him, weapons still slick with blood and foreheads glistening with sweat.
“I figured you’d be heading straight for him,” Seth said, nodding once to each of the Alphas beside me. “We hit our wing hard and managed to catch most of

the guards during what seemed to be their fucking tea time! Lost one of ours unfortunately though an update, wiping the dampness from his face as he spoke.
but the rest are fine. Were all through. He gives us
What about the cables? I asked quickly,
“I left two of our men back there after we found the control room. They’ve already started cutting power to the external gates and lighting systems and are
working to shut down their computers. Place will be in a total blackout any second with zero fuel. They’ve got gas canisters ready to torch the file rooms too
once everyone’s out.”
Kion smiled for the first time since we entered this place. “Good. Let this place burn with the truth of what he’s fucking done to our women and this
country!”
The corridor dimmed around us, lights flickering once twice
and then steadying with a hum.
“Let’s move in on him – we’re running out of time!” I begin, turning to move towards the first step before Seth’s rough hand shoots out and catches me first.
He tugs me in close to him, as my brows furrow at the action, waiting for him to say his piece.
“Is it the smartest idea for all three of you to charge in there? We don’t know what’s behind that door waiting on us?” He speaks lowly, as I think on his
words.
Perhaps he’s right…
It all seemed far too easy thus far…
I nodded slowly, accepting his warning, before I stepped toward the stairs and rolled my shoulders back. “We shouldn’t barge in there all as one team, we don’t know what he has planned.” I relay the message to Kion and Viktor, who both glance at each other to think on my words.
Kion gave a sharp nod. “Then we do it in two waves. One distracts. The others flank them.”
Viktor growled his agreement, eyes narrowing on the thick door below. “I’ll go in first, I’m not afraid of Dimitri!”
Seth tilted his chin. “Ok, our team will stay here and hold the hall. No one gets in or out behind you guys.”
I turned back to Kion. “You and I go in shortly after Viktor. If he has traps, then we can hold back before we swoop in to help get him out of there if we
have to.”
With final nods, the three of us headed for the door, the damn thing being triple–barred, and cold as a tomb.
Of course it was.
The last defense of a man who preyed on the weak and hid when warriors came for him…
Together, Kion and I took position on either side of the door, before Viktor shifted in to his wolf form and began slamming himself against it – the metal of the locks groaning loudly in defence.
He charged at it.
Then charged again.
Before the hinges finally gave and-

BOOM!
M
The slam of the door hit the ground sending vibrations throughout the entire space, dust falling from the ceilings.
Viktor charged in, as I held my breath awaiting sounds of resistance or yelping… but nothing came.
It was silent…
Too silent…
‘Let’s go! I made the decision quickly, taking hold of the situation as Kion followed in at my back.
We found Viktors wolf continuing to scope out the empty surroundings of what seemed to be a highly established suite fit for a king.
Despite the velvet dressings upon the rich leather sofas, and the dark countertops of a mini bar that had remained in tact, the rest of the place had been trashed – evidently from Dimitri being in a hurry to flee this place to save his own ass!
I took a second to smell the air, my senses heightening as I closed my eyes in order to focus.
Nothing.
I was picking up nothing.
“He’s not fucking here!” I growled, my brows furrowing in concern that he had somehow managed to get out of here just in the nick of time.
“But how?! According to the map there is no other way out of this place other than the main doors that we made sure to cover!” Kion protests, before going to the door to holler out to some of his own men in Russian.
Moments later, two of them rushed down the steps, before moving quickly to raid the room – kicking open each door and looking under every surface…
But I already knew the truth.
I could sense this place was abandoned.
“There’s got to be another way out of this room, and we need to fucking find it!” I state quickly.
We had let this fucker slip out right from under our noses
