Accidentally Crossing the Tycoon

Chapter 33

Andrey’s POV

1 dragged my exhausted body back to the Bailey house

The day spent at the amusement park had drained every ounce of my energy, and all I wanted was to quietly retreat to my room and get some muchneeded

sleep

However, fate didn’t seem inclined to grant me that wish

The moment I stepped into the foyer, I ran smack into Eleanor, who was just about to head out

Well, well, look who’s back,Eleanor’s gaze slid from my face down to my neck, a glint of malicious satisfaction flickering in her eyes..

Out all night fooling around with men, just now crawling home.”

That’s when I realized the silk scarf I’d worn during the day had long since disappeared somewhere, leaving the marks Caspar had left completely exposed to

her view

What’s the matter, are you that desperate??Eleanor sneered. Don’t forget you’re a married woman. Here I thought you were some kind of saint.”

I’d had enough of her attitudethis constant need to humiliate me every time she saw me

I can always get a divorce,I said, my voice calm but my gaze sharp

as

a blade

There’s only a year left anyway. Ending it early would be better for

everyone. Then I could really go fool aroundwithout any strings attached, couldn’t I?”

Eleanor’s face instantly went white as a sheet. She knew exactly how important Samuel West’s sponsorship was to the Bailey family

You wouldn’t dare!she said through gritted teeth

What’s wrong, Mom?Sienna’s voice drifted down from the staircase

Just as Eleanor was gearing up for another outburst, Sienna walked over and gently took her arm

Mom, don’t be like this,Sienna’s tone was surprisingly gentle, then she turned to me

Audrey, I’m sorry. Mom’s just having an emotional day. She didn’t mean to say those things.”

I stared at Sienna in shock, hardly believing those words had come out of her mouth

Wow, did the sun rise in the west today?I couldn’t help but be sarcastic

You’re actually apologizing to me on her behalf? Should I take a picture for posterity?”

Sienna’s smile froze for just a moment, but she quickly recovered. Don’t say that, Audrey. We’re family, after all.”

I almost burst out laughing. I didn’t have time for their little charade

If there’s nothing else, I’m going to my room,I said, stepping around them and heading upstairs

At the second floor landing. I saw Grandma Margaret standing there with a worried expression on her face

Audrey, I heard what you said down there, she said softly. “Do you really want to divorce Samuel?”

I walked over and took her wrinkled hands in mine. Grandma, I was just trying to scare Eleanor, I wouldn’t actually do that.”

Margaret breathed a sigh of relief. Good, she deserved to be put in her place.”

Seeing the smile return to Grandma’s face, I felt both relieved and helpless

Sometimes when I’m really ticked off, I genuinely do want to get divorced, just to spite them all

But doing that would only worry Grandma

Sienna’s been acting differently lately,Grandma suddenly said. Have you noticed?”

I nodded. “She actually apologized to me on Eleanor’s behalf just now. It’s mindboggling.”

She’s taken quite a hit recently,Margaret sighed

pretty down in the dumps these past few days.”

That incident where she got kicked out of the Thornton family charity

made

it

Talk about playing all the angles

So Sienna’s sudden niceness toward meshe’s backed into a corner and wants to use me to get close to the Thornton family

onto the gossip blogs, and it’s really hurt her acting career. She’s been

The next day, I arrived at Luminous Gallery right on time, ready to start another day of work

I’d barely made it to the office area when Mrs. Smith called out to me

Audrey, could you come here for a moment? She stood in her office doorway, her expression serious

I followed her into the office, asking with some confusion, Is something wrong?”

Dorothy Thornton is here,Mrs. Smith said bluntly. She wants to see you.”

I felt a wave of anxiety wash over me. Why would she want to see me?”

Mrs. Smith hesitated. I’m not sure, but it might have something to do with how close you’ve gotten to Noah and Mr. Caspar lately.”

There was a hint of warning in her tone, and I understood she was diplomatically reminding me to tread carefully

I understand,I nodded. Where is she now?”

The VIP reception room,Mrs. Smith replied

I took a deep breath and straightened my clothes. I’ll go see her now.”

The VIP reception room was decorated with elegant sophistication. Dorothy Thornton sat perfectly upright in the center sofa, her posture impeccable and

her bearing graceful

She appeared to be in her seventies but was exceptionally wellpreserved, with sharp, authoritative eyes

Mrs. Thornton,I entered the room with polite greeting. Hello, I’m Audrey Lane.”

She looked up, her gaze as piercing as a hawk’s as she scrutinized me. I forced myself to maintain a smile and not show any intimidation

However, what caught me off guard was that after she got a clear look at my face, her expression seemed to change

The initial scrutiny gave way to something like confusion

Haven’t we met somewhere before?Dorothy Thornton’s voice carried a note of uncertainty

The question completely blindsided me

In my memory, I had never encountered Dorothy Thornton. In fact, before entering the Thornton family’s circle, I hadn’t even seen a photograph of her

I don’t believe so, Mrs. Thornton,I answered carefully. This is our first meeting.”
