Chapter 92
Kane’s POV
I ran like hell and I didn’t stop.
Not even when the ache in my muscles burned beneath my ribs.
The only thing in my head was Tessa.
I was coming, angel…
The trees finally broke, giving way to the clearing near the rusted container.

I jogged my way towards where I left Sasha crumpled in the frosty grass in nothing but my hoodie only to find a figure crouched beside
her.
Seth.
I shifted mid–stride, landing hard on two feet as the last of my wolf form faded. I approached them both to see that Seth had covered her
in some extra layers of his own now too.
Sasha was still on the ground, her face pale, lips trembling, and her eyes- though they were still open- were distant and glassy.
“She’s still stable?” I asked carefully, voice hoarse.
Seth stood to approach me. His face was tight as he nodded once. “Yeah. But not doing too good. She’s freezing. She’s exhausted. Keeps sobbing that she’s in pain too. I don’t think she can even tell where exactly it’s coming from anymore either. These humans can’t handle the weather like us… she can’t be out here much longer.”
I released a shaky breath, remembering how important it was to bring Sasha back – alive.
I moved past him and crouched beside her, taking in the sight of her shaking form up close.
“Did you get Dimitri?” Seth questions next, nervous for what my update on that would be…
I nodded stiffly, eyes remaining on Sasha, “It’s done now.” I confirm, as Seth sighed in relief, knowing exactly what I meant.
I swallowed hard and glanced out into the woods behind us, the rising sun finally trying its damn hardest to shine amongst the thick fog…
“Did you manage to get through on the radios?” I asked, cautious that he was alone here.

Seth’s silence made my stomach clench more.

“We did,” he finally said, but his voice was flat. “Got a few words out. Enough to give as much detail as we could. But then it cut off. No confirmation. Static after that.” He glanced at me frustratedly.
I clenched my jaw.
That wasn’t good enough.
“What about Andrei?” I pressed, referring to Kion’s man who had been with us throughout this entire thing.
“He went off to try and locate a road – stating there had to be one nearby. Said if he didn’t find anybody then he’d work his way back to
the compound for a vehicle to come get us… but that was over forty minutes ago now.” He stated, checking his wristwatch again.
I looked down at Sasha, worried about how long she would manage to hold on out here…
“She keeps burning up too,” Seth said grimly. “Shock’s setting in, maybe even infection? She needs a doctor.” He recites, as I detect the panic rising in his words.
“I’m not letting her die here,” I muttered firmly. “Not after everything she’s been through to survive.”
I stood tall, scooping her up with me, feeling my legs ache, but the adrenaline wouldn’t let me rest. Not while Tessa was waiting for me. Not while this girl in my arms was still suffering.
“We’re getting her out,” I growled. “Even if I have to carry her all the way to Kion’s fucking pack on my goddamn back.”
Seth nodded. “You’ve got no argument from me.”
But just as I turned, a sudden crunch echoed from the trees, as our heads snapped towards the sound.
We dropped to a crouch instantly, instinct flicking on like a switch incase it was an enemy…
But a moment later, a familiar scent reached my nose.
“Andrei,” Seth muttered, standing back up quickly.
From between the trees, the big Russian male emerged- panting hard, shirt soaked through with sweat despite the cold. His boots were caked in mud and frost, but his eyes were alive with urgency.
“I found it,” he huffed. “The road is not far! There were vehicles hidden just off the road, I guess Dimitri had them kept there for times like this? I managed to break the window and found a key! Where is the others? Alpha Kion?” He rushes, taking his time to find the right English.
“Alphas are fine, Seth take the girl to the car! I’ll go back for Kion and Viktor. What direction is the road? I’ll lead them out of the woods

there for you to pick us up!” I rush the plan, landing Seth with Sasha’s whimpering body.
Andrei nodded and pointed, “South!” Ile stated, as I adjusted my pocket compass accordingly.

The three of them took off in that direction, disappearing back into the treeline with a burst of speed, as I went the opposite way towards
my fellow Alphas.
Weak sunlight now filtered in through the branches, casting long streaks of grey across the forest floor as I ran.
It should’ve been calming. But It wasn’t. It was a reminder of how long the night had been…
If I could just get everyone out–get Sasha warm, get the team to the car- I could finally get back to her.
Back to Tessa.
I moved faster, ignoring the sting in my joints and the tightness in my chest.
I had to focus.
A sudden burst of voices cracked through the trees ahead- low, sharp, foreign. Russian.
Kion and Viktor.
Both of them were still stood by Dimitri’s limp figure, looking just as worn out as I felt.
“About damn time,” Viktor muttered when he spotted me. “Thought you’d gotten yourself eaten by a bear.” He attempted to joke, as I shifted and stood up fully.
“Almost,” I laughed dryly. “We’ve got transport. South road,” I said quickly. “Andrei found a vehicle and got it working. Seth’s already on his way there with Sasha.”
Kion’s expression shifted at the mention of her. “Is the poor thing still alive?”
“Barely,” I admitted, jaw tight. “She held out longer than anyone could’ve expected, but she needs medical help. We need to get back to your pack.”
They both nodded and moved instantly, “Put this mutt on my back for me?” Kion stated, before shifting and landing in his wolf form once
more.
We didn’t argue, respecting his trophy, as Viktor and I moved to haul his heavy dead brother up from the ground and across him..
We all ran together- trusting that my compass was right and by the time we broke through the trees, I could see the vehicle waiting just down the narrow road, engine rumbling low.

Andrei stood outside the driver’s door, pacing, scanning the trees.
When he saw us, his posture eased.
:
The side door was open, and I could see Sasha bundled in tight beside Seth as we ran towards them and clambered in to the back.
“Drive,” I instructed Andrei as soon as we were in – Dimitri’s dead body taking up most space in the back.

The vehicle jerked forward a second later, wheels spitting as we tore away from the desolate waste land – all worn out, but successful.
