Chapter 212
Marina looked down at her phone, then pressed the elevator’s down button..
“I’ll go down and look for him. You can get out of work now. Just use the side entrance, she said.
Robert nodded. “Got it, Ms. Finley.”
When Marina got downstairs, Basil was still in a meeting.
She could only wait in the office next to the conference room and didn’t go over until Basil finally wrapped things up.
The blood on Basil’s white shirt had already dried, leaving a vivid, almost shocking splash of red that caught the eye.
Marina quietly exhaled, her face turning grim.
She said, “Basil, I’m sorry for dragging you into this. Let me make it up to you.”
‘No need to even guess, Marina thought to herself. “The Ross family was definitely after me.’

Seeing the guilt all over Marina’s face, Basil kept his voice steady as he spoke, “Ms. Finley, no need. This is just a small thing
for me.”
Back when Daron first set up the audit department at Zamora Group and let Basil take charge of it, there were plenty of people who wanted kill Basil.
Getting splashed with drama was just another part of the job for him.
Marina thought about some of the things Zamora Group had revealed over the years, and it was easy to imagine the kind of threats and pressure Basil had to deal with in his position.
“Ms. Finley, since you’re here, let’s go over the follow–up regarding Ross Group,” Basil added.
Marina nodded slightly and replied, “Sure, let’s discuss it in the conference room.”
Basil nodded, inviting her into the conference room.
“Mr. Zamora specifically instructed me that before taking any action regarding Lavern, I should consult with you first. So I’d like to hear your opinion before I decide what to do,” he said.
Marina gave a small, tight smile at his words.
Daron was still worried she’d change her mind, so he kept putting the decision in her hands over and over.
Annoyance bubbled up inside her. ‘Even after everything, Daron still doesn’t believe in me,‘ she thought.
She pushed down her frustration, looked up at Basil, and said, “As it happens, I wanted to talk to you about this, too.
“Here’s what I’m thinking. We hand over all the evidence we’ve got so far, get the police involved, and have Lavern arrested and detained. That way, the Ross family will be too busy dealing with him to bother us.”
Ross Group still needed to do business, but if the Ross family kept making a scene, it was going to mess with everyone’s physical and mental health around here.
“Even if we don’t have every single piece of evidence against Lavern, what we’ve got is more than enough to get him convicted.
Basil nodded, totally on board with what Marina said.

Once Layein gets detained, the Ross family will stop messing with Ross Group and start figuring out how to move the cash, Tavern hd he added.
The more slip ups the Ross family made, the easier it’d be for us build a case against them.
Seeing that Basil had already planned, Marina felt her nerves seife.
But thinking about the way the Ross family operates and knowing Yara had already gotten in touch with Winnie, she felt compelled to remind Basil.
She said, “Basil, could you also keep an eye on the online news? The Ross family is notorious for causing trouble online. I’m worried they might spread false rumors and use public opinion to hurt Mr. Zamora’s reputation.
“It doesn’t matter what people say about me, but I don’t want Mr. Zamora getting dragged into this.”
This was her personal grudge with Lavern, a tangled history that was just between the two of them.
Daron shouldn’t have to get dragged into this or get trashed by internet trolls because of her.
Basil’s expression was all business, calm and commanding.
“Sure,” he said without missing a beat.
“I’ve already told the PR team at Zamora Group to monitor all the online buzz,” he added.
Zamora Group basically had its hands in most of the big social media apps. They owned a huge chunk of shares in them.
If the Ross family thought they could use Daron’s reputation to stir up drama online, they were just digging their own grave.
With Basil’s words, Marina finally felt at ease. She lowered her voice and said, “Whatever comes next with Lavern, Basil, you can handle it however you think best. You don’t have to ask me.”
Ever since Marina discovered Lavern was cheating, moving Ross Group’s money around, and even planning to take out a huge loan in the company’s name, she never once regretted her decision.
Exposing his affair with that intern at the wedding was just the first move in her plan.
Basil gave a firm nod.
He said, “Since you’ve given the go–ahead, Ms. Finley, I’ll handle things my way, just like I always do.
“If I mess up, I hope you won’t hold it against me.”
Marina smiled. “I’m the one who told you to do it. How could I ever blame you?”
As she spoke, she reached out her hand to Basil.
Basil raised an eyebrow, then reached out and shook her hand. “I won’t let
you
down.”
Marina gave a calm smile and said, “Basil, don’t worry. Show what you can do at Ross Group.”
With that, she pulled her hand back.
A flicker of admiration crossed Basil’s eyes as he looked at Marina.

Back when he got the instruction from Darodi to Vruheld, he Byged Marina would be the biggest trouble in this whole instigation.
However, in the enit, she was the one who came through with this most important evidence
She has been supporting me without hesitation, not even a hint Diat she will cares about Lavern. Guese Daron is just worrying for nothing, he thought.
Basil escorted Marina out of the conference room. Just as they reached the elevator, he got word that the Poss family had been picked up by law enforcement.
They were being charged with instigating a public disturbance.
Some investigators came by to mediate, hoping they could get a written statement of forgiveness from their side.
Basil’s brow furrowed as he spoke in a low, commanding tone, “We absolutely won’t be issuing any statement of forgiveness. Send our lawyer over to assist with the case, and make sure theyre held in custody.”
The elevator doors opened up, and Basil motioned for Marina to go in.
Marina stepped inside, and he wrapped up his call as she did.
“Ms. Finley, with everything that’s been happening lately, it’s safer if you stay away from Ross Group for the next few days. If anything comes up, we’ll just handle it over the phone,” Basil said.
Marina nodded, noticing Basil wasn’t planning to leave yet. Her gaze landed on the bloodstain on his shirt.
Basil looked down, instantly getting what she meant.
“No need to worry, Ms. Finley. I’ve already ordered a new shirt to be delivered,” he said quickly.
Marina couldn’t shake off her guilt. “I really am sorry,” she said.
Basil remained calm and said, “It’s alright, Ms. Finley. Be careful If anything
Marina nodded, and the elevator doors slid shut slowly.
comes up, don’t hesitate to call me.”
Before the elevator doors were completely closed, Marina couldn’t help but quietly ask, “Did Mr. Zamora tell you when he’ll be back?”
But the doors shut just as she finished speaking, and Basil didn’t hear her question at all.
Marina stood there, frozen in front of the closed elevator doors, not moving for a long moment.
She couldn’t help but bite her lip, a hint of sadness flickering in her eyes. ‘Why did I even bother asking?‘ she thought to herself.
