Chapter 105
Kane’s POV
The sound of Tessa and Erin’s voices- gentle, grateful, reverent- rattled something deep inside me.
They remained on either side of Sasha’s bed, voices hushed but clear.
And what they were saying…
“We certainly owe her our whole lives… just think of what could’ve happened if she didn’t help us out… the extra beatings we would’ve
taken.” Erin bubbles, her lip trembling.
I felt it then.
That snap in my chest.
The sharp crack of rage was striking straight through the center of my ribs all over again.
My hands clenched into fists before I could stop them, and my wolf snarled from the inside. He was restless- fur bristling, claws digging
against the cage of my control.
He didn’t care that Dimitri was dead. He wanted to see the bastard’s bones break again. To shred what was left of him to ash.
But that time had passed. The war, the bloodshed, the fury.
It was over now.
Dimitri was gone.
And the girls… they were back. Safe. Healing,
But still this ugly little ember in my gut refused to die. The guilt. The helplessness. The need to make something right in a world that
had been so wrong.
I exhaled hard through my nose, flexing my hands open. “Tessa,” I said, rising to my feet. She blinked up at me, eyes clouded with
hesitation.
“Come with me,” I added, already moving. “Let’s go find food for everyone. Bring it back here.”
Her mouth opened, uncertain. Her eyes darted back to Sasha like she couldn’t bear to leave her, even for a moment.
“She’ll be okay,” I said gently. “Seth will mind–link me if she wakes. We’ll come right back. Promise. But you need fresh air. Let’s take turns

to stretch our legs a little.”
I glanced at Seth, who gave a small, firm nod in agreement. “He’s right. When you two get back, I’ll take Erin out for a break too.” He encouraged further.
Tessa chewed the inside of her cheek. Then she nodded slowly and gently slid her hand from Sasha’s.
“Let us know instantly if anything changes,” she said, eyes flitting between Seth and Erin.
“Of course we will,” Erin whispered, offering her friend a tired smile.
Tessa hesitated a heartbeat longer, then stepped beside me.
“Grab me a coffee too bro? Haven’t had a drop today and I’m feeling it!” Seth grumbles, as I agree with that.
I could use some too…
Tessa was quiet as we made our way back through the clinic’s winding halls. I slowed my pace automatically, noticing how her smaller
legs had to work double–time to keep up with mine.
When we passed the front reception desk, the same receptionist from earlier smiled warmly at us. Tessa lifted a hand in response, her
wave small but kind.
I felt the tug inside me- how it always surged around her, protective and magnetic.
I slowed. Reached back.
Took her hand.
She looked up, surprised, but didn’t resist. I pulled her closer to my side as we stepped outside and into the open hallways of the rest of
the pack house.
“You remember the way back so easily,” she said after a moment, glancing up as we weaved through the corridors and doors.
I gave a small, amused grunt. “I’d be a pretty shit Alpha if I got myself lost in another Alpha’s pack house – that would make me look
quite pathetic don’t you think?” I laugh lightly.
She giggled too, and it tugged something loose in my chest. A thread of tension unraveled- small, but noticeable.
She was smiling.
She was with me again.
Everything was light.

Or at least it will be as soon as I right the last wrong buried deep in the pit of my stomach…
I have to tell her.
Before I lose my mind over it.

We reached the dining area a few minutes later. It was quieter now, the lunch rush clearly over. But there were still trays of food set out under warming lights, and the place smelled of herbs, garlic, meat, and toasted bread.
I moved first, grabbing four plastic containers from a tall cabinet and handing two to her. “Get something for Erin, and something for yourself.”
Tessa gave me a little nod and went to work, her fingers hovering over each dish. I watched her carefully. She was a lot thinner than
before. Worryingly so, and I couldn’t help but notice it.
“You need to start eating properly again,” I said, keeping my voice low. “I’m worried about your weight.”
Her shoulders tensed for a second, and then she nodded again. “I know. You’re right. I’ll try my best.”
That was enough.
She filled one container with fries, splitting them between hers and Erin’s, then moved to a hot tray of lasagna, carefully carving out a
square of each. She added toasted bread before sealing the lids.
I filled the last two containers with anything and everything— meats, vegetables, whatever still looked hot. Tessa laughed softly as I
crammed the lids on top like I was stacking bricks.
“We’re large wolves, angel,” I said, tossing her a grin. “We need fuel.”
She smiled, as I opened a paper bag and we slid the meals inside before heading toward the drinks station.
I poured two strong coffees, while Tessa picked up water bottles for herself and Erin. Then, just as we were about to leave, she stopped
short.
‘Look
chocolate chip cookies!” Her excitement was pure and unfiltered.
“Take as many as you want,” I said, watching her with something like awe. “That’s an order.”
She grinned but only took four, stacking them neatly in another small bag.
As we made our way back, our footsteps echoing through the quieter corridor, I felt it rise again- that thing sitting heavy in my chest.
My wolf hadn’t calmed since hearing about Sasha’s sacrifice but there was something else…

“I wanted to talk to you about something, I finally said, my voice low. “Something important.”
Tessa slowed beside me, her brows furrowing as she looked up.

“Of course. She encouraged, as we stilled by an open window, enjoying the frosty cool air.
“My wolf’s been… restless, I admitted. “Not because of what’s happened. It’s more a longing. A protection issue.” I attempt to explain but she only stared back in sheer confusion.
“I don’t want to go back home with you… without…” I start again, trailing off to think of the right words.
“You don’t want to go back home with me?” Tessa panics slightly, as I wave her off.
“No! Not that! What I’m trying to say is… I already consider you my mate, but my wolf needs it.” I carefully tell her, but she still wasn’t
understanding.
She just stared, waiting for the rest.
“Look, Tessa… I need to mate with you fully before we go back home, complete this bond. It’s safer for you if we do. I need to make you
mine – my human – for everyone back home to properly respect you.” I conclude, before silence falls between us, letting the request sink
in…
