Tessa’s POV
Sasha’s eyebrows twitched again- just barely, but I caught it. Her face was still pale, lips dry, but it was her.
It was her.
She was trying.
I didn’t even realise I was crying until a tear slid off my chin and onto the back of her hand.

“Come on, Sasha…” I whispered, gently squeezing her fingers, not even caring how tightly I held on. “Come back to us. You’re safe. You’re
not alone anymore. I promise.”
Erin sniffled beside me, her eyes glassy as she leaned in even closer. “You’re in the pack house now,” she added softly. “We’re with you.
We’re not leaving, okay?”
The door flung open then, and Kane returned with the same tall man from before – Doctor Eli – with a dark leather medical bag clutched
in one hand.
A nurse followed in quickly at his back, as Kane came to my side seeing my state.
“Come angel, give them space.” Kane pulled me out of the way, as I sniffled heavily and nodded, knowing he was right.
The doctor’s face was serious but not panicked, which sent a ripple of relief through my chest.
“She moved,” I said to him quickly as he approached her and started doing his own checks. “She groaned, and then her nose twitched.
She’s trying to open her eyes.”
The doctor gave a curt nod and knelt down beside the bed, setting his bag on the floor and slipping a stethoscope from around his neck.
“That’s very good,” he said calmly.
Kane remained near me, his hand finding the small of my back, grounding me as the doctor checked Sasha’s vitals. Erin stood stiffly,
chewing her lip raw as she fidgeted with the hem of her shirt.
Seth had gone still too, watching from the edge of the room with uncharacteristic silence, his arms crossed tightly over his chest.
“She’s definitely stabilising,” the doctor said after a moment, nodding to himself as he examined her pupils with a small flashlight. “You were right, she’s beginning to come out of it. Slowly, but she’s responding. Her body is working to wake up on its own now. It could be
any minute or any hour…”
A breath I hadn’t realised I was holding shuddered out of me.

Chapter 109
“Thank the moon,” Erin breathed, pressing a hand to her chest and smiling at the news.
“You should prepare yourselves for a slow recovery,” the doctor went on. “There may be memory gaps, fatigue, sensory confusion…. anything really. But the fact that she’s showing voluntary movement is a very, very good sign.” He added.
He gave her arm a reassuring pat, and then turned toward Kane. “We will administrate an adrenaline shot, hopefully give her the little boost she needs to wake up fully, and I’ll stay close. You can come get me when she wakes. Until then, keep the room quiet, let her come
back at her own pace.” Doctor Eli instructs us all, as the nurse readies the needle for him.
Kane nodded respectfully, and the doctor gave us all a final look before taking the needle from the nurse as she pulled back the blanket covering Sasha’s bruised and cut up legs.
She lifted her gown only a little, in order to clean the area of her thigh steadily in preparation for the injection… before Doctor Eli wasted
no time and quickly gave her the shot.
I held my breath as though it would happen instantly, but of course it didn’t.
“Stay calm, it won’t be too long now until your friend wakes.” Eli pats Kane’s shoulder on his exit, as the pair of them slip out of the
door.
The second it clicked shut behind him, I sank back into the chair beside Sasha’s bed, leaning forward to hold her hand once more, my
heart still pounding from the incident.
I didn’t say anything right away. None of us did.
The room was filled with a kind of hushed awe- like we were watching something sacred unfold.
A moment later, Kane knelt beside me and reached up to brush a tear off my cheek with his thumb. “She’s going to make it,” he said,
voice low, meant only for me.
I nodded, trying not to let a sob escape. “I was so scared she wouldn’t, but it feels real now. She’s waking up.” I smile through the tears,
as he nods, pulling a tissue from the box for me.
“I know,” he murmured, standing before kissing the side of my head gently. “Not long now.”
Across the bed, Erin remained standing, with Seth now by her side, arm wrapped around her for added comfort too.
Everything felt still.
Hopeful.
We waited, as time ticked on, maybe five or ten minutes? Perhaps more? Until Sasha finally stirred again.
Just a twitch in her leg this time, followed by a part of her lips. But it was enough.

Chapter 109
Erin leaned closer, on edge, as I squeezed her hand for encouragement.
“Hey,” Erin whispered, leaning close again. “You take your time, but we’re right here, alright? When you’re ready- we’ll be here for you.”
I swallowed back another wave of emotion, watching the scene unfold beside me.
So much had changed in such a short time. I had my mate back. Erin had hers. And most importantly… they had managed to get Sasha out of there alive too.
“Voda…” The word caused me to stand, gasping loudly.
“She spoke!” I stated the obvious, as we all blinked around at one another.
“Voda…” it came again, followed by a dry cough and a groan, her body moving the most it ever had now.
“What is she saying?!” I panic, feeling guilty that I couldn’t understand the Russian word myself.
Kane rushed out again, as this time, her eyes screwed up, before they cracked open ever so slightly, slamming shut again at the brightness
of the room.
“Turn off the light!” Erin hurries Seth, who does exactly that, before moving towards the window to adjust the blinds next too.
Sasha attempted again, her eye lids seeming heavy, as she blinks carefully, groaning; “Voda!” She breathed out, as I shook my head.
“The doctor is coming Sasha, you’re safe! It’s me, Tessa, and Erin too!” I encourage her, seconds before the room door opens.
I turn to find Doctor Eli, who looks pleased at the sight seeing more movement this time.
“She keeps saying ‘Voda‘ what is she asking for?” I rush out, moving back to let him in this time on my own accord.
“Water.” He confirms, as I curse myself under my breath.
I should have known it was water!
But before I could help at all, the nurse was there, two this time, one carrying a cup of water and the other moving to adjust Sasha’s head – propping her up more for added comfort.
Her eyes were slowly adjusting to the room, as she groaned and whined.
Doctor Eli spoke gently to her in Russian, as she spoke the word ‘Voda‘ twice more, before the nurses were satisfied with her position on the bed – lifting the fresh cup of water up to her mouth.
She’s finally awake!
