Eliana had only meant it as a mocking joke, but as soon as the words left her mouth, she noticed Logan’s gaze growi more serious.

Her brows furrowed even tighter, and Eliana found herself thinking how ridiculous and laughable this whole situation was.
“Logan, I didn’t know you’d started telling jokes,” Eliana said. “I’m not pregnant. Believe whatever you want. I don’t owe y an explanation.
“If you came here just for this, then sorry. I don’t have time to waste on this nonsense.”
Eliana was about to call her assistant in, Logan spoke up. “Alright, if you don’t want to talk about that, then let’s talk hat Westridge property.”
Logan sat down beside her, looking serious. “Eliana, you must realize by now just how huge that project is. With the way things are for Lyons Group, there’s no way you guys can pull it off.
“I’ll admit, when you asked me to give the land back, I was being petty. I wanted you to see that it was too much and come back to me.
“I even thought, if you just came back and apologized, even a little, I’d let it all go, and we could just go back to the way things used to be.”
He added, “But now, I can’t stand seeing you go through this anymore, so I wanted to have a real conversation with you.
“The land belongs to Lyons Group, but the project is Eliot Groups. So I can help Lyons Group out, at least make sure you guys don’t end up bankrupt again.
“We can team up. When it comes to splitting the profits, we can work out a deal that makes us both happy. Sound good?”
Logan’s eyes locked on Eliana, all business.
To him, Eliana’s refusal to go to the hospital was basically proof she was

If that was true, it meant she still wanted to come back and be with him like before.
He’d already given her the perfect out, so there was no reason for her not to take it.
But Eliana’s thoughts were worlds apart from Logan’s.
She frowned, her eyes blazing as she stared at Logan, and couldn’t for the life of her figure out what she ever saw in him.
Eliana couldn’t understand why she’d ever stuck by him so blindly.
It was just like they said, when one was caught up in it, one couldn’t see the truth. Only after one steps out did one realize that what one thought was so special turned out to be nothing.
Honestly, that was how it was for most people trapped in a marriage. One spent all that time caring about someone, but once one finally let go and started loving oneself, one realized they never deserved one in the first place.
Eliana honestly couldn’t figure out how Logan could say something like that, coming in here, acting like he’s throwing Lyons Group a bone, as if he’s some kind of savior.
When she thought back to how he’d signed those papers without a hint of hesitation, all smug and convinced he had everything under control, Eliana just found him ridiculous.

Chapter 83
She couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Eliana looked at Logan seriously and said slowly, “Mr. Eliot, do you not have a mirror at home?”
Not getting what she meant, Logan frowned. “What do you mean?”
“No real meaning. I just figure if you ever looked in the mirror, you’d know better than to say something like that,” Elian shot back, not even bothering to acknowledge how Logan’s face suddenly changed.
She went on, completely serious, “Tell me, Mr. Eliot. Are you just forgetful? When you signed that agreement, it sure dic say what you’re claiming now.”

“Eliot Group isn’t involved in the Westridge project at all,” Eliana said flatly. “The land is Lyons Group’s, my father’s. All the investment went through Lyons Group, too.
st an employee for my dad, so really, what does this project have to do with Eliot Group?”
She added, “Oh, right, you were just waiting for me to fail, hoping Lyons Group would go bankrupt so you could swoop in and snatch up the land for dirt cheap, weren’t you?
“Too bad for you, Lyons Group turned out to be way more capable than you ever gave us credit for. We turned things around ourselves.”
She sneered, “So what’s your deal now, Mr. Eliot? The project’s finally thriving, and suddenly you want in? When did the great CEO of Eliot Group start acting like a beggar, scrambling for leftovers?”
Eliana didn’t spare Logan’s feelings at all; she didn’t give him a shred of respect.
Logan couldn’t stand her words. He slammed his hand on the table and shot to his feet, glaring at Eliana. “Don’t push me too far!”
Eliana looked at Logan and let out a mocking laugh, but inside, she felt a bitter ache she couldn’t explain.
These were the exact same words Logan had thrown at her in her previous life, back when Lyons Group was on the brink of collapse.
All she’d done was beg him to help Lyons Group out, just so they wouldn’t go under for real.
For Logan, it would’ve been nothing, just a favor, no big deal.
But instead of helping, he’d sneered, “Eliana, Lyons Group’s been around forever. Your dad should have some backbone. Now he’s asking his daughter and son–in–law for money? What kind of example is that?
“Since when did Lyons Group turn into beggars?”
Those words hit her like a dagger to the heart, cutting deep.
Eliana wanted to explain that her parents had never asked for anything, but as their only daughter, she just couldn’t stand by and watch it all fall apart.
But Logan hadn’t even given her a chance to explain. As soon as Isabella called, he just turned and walked away, leaving Eliana all alone.
Compared to what he’d done, how could anything I do now be considered crossing the line? Eliana wondered.
Meeting Eliana’s mocking gaze, Logan was itching to flip the table right then and there.
Still, remembering the mess he was in, he forced himself to chill out. He looked at Eliana and said, “Eliot Group invested a ton into this project. Otherwise, I wouldn’t even be here talking to you.
