“Miss! As long as you can save our captain, anything you want -anything I’m capable of–I’ll do it!” Logan’s face was deadly serious, his promise rock solid.
Iris smirked. There it is. “Simple,” she said lightly. “I want you.”
Logan was stunned.
The color rushed up his neck and straight to the tips of his ears. For once, he didn’t know what to say.
The other teammates looked at him with expressions too complicated for words.
This was something else.
So basically, Logan was too handsome; Iris had taken one look at him, and now she wanted to keep him as her prize husband?
For a moment, no one knew whether to pity Logan or envy him.
“Miss,” Logan said after a deep breath, forcing himself to stay calm as he looked at Iris. “I’m my own person. What exactly do you want me to do?”

you answer to me alone.”
“That’s not possible!” Logan shot back. “I have to return to the unit with everyone else!”
Iris rose leisurely to her feet. “Then take your time thinking it over. If you want him saved, stay.”
Watching her walk away so casually, Logan clenched his fist. “Miss! Can you really save my captain?”
“Of course,” Iris said without hesitation. “As long as he’s still breathing, I guarantee he won’t die.”
With the system’s Emergency Recovery Pill, she had every reason to be confident.
Logan fell silent for three seconds. Then he spoke solemnly. “Fine. If you can save my captain, then my life is yours.”
“Logan!”
The moment the team realized he had agreed, they panicked.
“Take me instead!” Tyler Murphy blurted out. “I’ll go all in. Let Logan go. I’ll stay!”
“I’m willing too!” Blake Peterson shouted. “Use me to save our captain!”

“I’ll do it!” Derek Palmer said through gritted teeth.
“Move aside,” Connor Bailey said flatly. “I’ve got no family left anyway. This life means nothing. I’ll go.”
“Hey, you demon, take me!” The unlucky guy who had triggered Iris‘ trap lay on the ground, yelling at the top of his lungs. “I’m Brett Cooper! I’m already half–dead anyway. My life’s the cheapest! Take me; it’s a better deal!”
Iris looked at the group of men volunteering themselves, and she was speechless.
Why did they act like she was about to devour Logan, all scrambling to die in his place?
And they actually dared call her a demon.
She had spent the whole day being kind and gentle, going out of her way to win over her precious Logan. She had really gone easy on her temper.
“You all wish,” Iris said coolly, then turned to Logan. “Carry him on your back. Follow me inside.”
She strode toward her bunker.
Logan took a deep breath, adjusted the man on his back, and hurried after her.

“Logan…”
The teammates watched helplessly as Logan carried the man inside, their worry twisting their guts.
They wanted to rush in and follow him, but reason won out in the end. This was the demon’s territory. She was the one who
let them in.
Even without thinking about the pre–apocalypse rules, the dogs she kept here and the unknown defenses scattered around were enough to make anyone think twice.
They didn’t dare make a move.
All they could do was watch, eyes wide, as the man disappeared
inside.

Once Logan followed Iris through the massive steel door and inside the bunker, he was struck by the interior.
The place was brightly lit. He could hear a faint hum in the back, probably from a generator.
He had no idea how she had soundproofed the place, or what kind of insanely powerful generator she had bought, but somehow, the noise was barely noticeable.

Normally, a diesel generator could shake a person to pieces, especially in a tightly sealed space like this.
He didn’t realize this generator had been upgraded by the
system.
The bunker was orderly. There were sofas, wool rugs, a large bed, and bathrooms. The rooms at the far end were all sealed tight, the doors looking like something from a high–security bank vault.
The second floor seemed to be a tower room, with a long row of computers and a crossbow mounted in sight.
Outside, crops thrived under her care, high–voltage electrified fences stood ready, traps lay in wait, and the pack of hunting dogs patrolled diligently. It was a fully equipped, self–contained stronghold.
One person could live here and withstand anything the world threw at them, unless a professional army came specifically to
attack.
But what army would bother hitting a tiny, isolated personal base?
Exactly!
Logan, a little slow on the uptake, started piecing together the 5/7
layout of this place.

The base’s location was insanely hidden!
No one would ever guess that deep in these remote mountains there was such a well–fortified, powerful personal stronghold.
The chance of anyone invading was practically zero!
This girl had thought of everything.
As Logan ran through all the details of Iris‘ base in his mind, his shock only deepened.
Who is this girl, really?
She had quietly built a full–fledged apocalypse fortress in the middle of nowhere!
Even more unbelievable–where did she get all the stuff inside?
Just take the bear traps at the entrance or the vehicle she drove after observing them, they realized the craftsmanship exceeded modern standards.
Could she have made it herself?
“Hey! What are you daydreaming about?”
Iris called out.
