Irene hadn’t expected Eliana to suddenly show up. She thought to herself that this was bad and quickly hurried after her.
When she caught up, she held onto Eliana’s arm and said earnestly, “Nathan’s lying.
“Trust me, his reaction was so unnatural. He must’ve had his reasons for leaving back then, but I just don’t know why he won’t say it.”
“Yeah,” Eliana replied calmly. “Honestly, whatever his reasons were, I don’t really care. It doesn’t matter to me.”
She looked at Irene seriously. “Irene, what happened between him and me is in the past. I’ve moved on, really. You don’t need to keep asking about what happened back then. I truly don’t care.
“Chasing after the answer will only make things awkward.”
As Eliana said this, she saw Nathan coming over and did her best to sound casual. “Irene, that private room just doesn’t work for us. Can you help us get a different one?”
Seeing Eliana’s mood was really off, Irene didn’t dare make any decisions herself. She just nodded. “Alright, I’ll switch it for you right away.”
With that, she led them to another private room.
After they sat down again, Eliana’s earlier mood was gone; she just ate as usual, saying nothing more.
Nathan watched her, feeling a pang in his chest.
Nathan knew Eliana had overheard what he said to Irene, and that made her feel bad.
He tried to say something a few times, but every time the words got stuck in his throat. He just didn’t know how to explain.
So, in the end, he kept his mouth shut, just sitting across from her, quietly finishing the meal together.
After the meal, Eliana looked at Nathan and said, “It’s getting late, Mr. Turner. If you have things to take care of, you can head out. I need to talk to Irene about something, so you don’t have to stay.”
Hearing the obvious hint for him to leave, Nathan nodded and stood up. He sighed quietly and said, “Alright.”
As he reached the door of the private room, Nathan paused, turned back to Eliana, and said, “If Logan doesn’t cooperate with the divorce tomorrow, I can recommend a divorce lawyer. I’ll make sure you come out on top.”
Eliana nodded. “Alright, thank you, Mr. Turner. If I need help, I’ll be sure to contact you.”
Seeing she didn’t reject his offer, Nathan finally relaxed a little and left the room.
Not long after Nathan left, Irene came back in.

Seeing Eliana still sitting at the table, lost in thought, Irene walked over and sat down next to her, careful not to startle her. “Eliana, are you still mad at me?”
Eliana shook herself out of her thoughts and looked at her. “No, not at all. I was just thinking about something.”
Irene looked at her seriously. “So, after your divorce, you’re really not even thinking about Nathan?
“Honestly, I always felt you two were truly in love back then. Now you’re single, he’s single. Wouldn’t it be amazing if you two got back together?
“And come on, ever since he came back, he’s been finding every excuse to be around you. It’s so obvious he’s
not over you.
“If you guys just let this chance slip by, I’d feel bad for you both.
“Eliana, are you sure you don’t feel anything for him anymore?”
Eliana listened to Irene, her gaze growing more serious. “Irene, honestly, high school romances probably don’t really count for much.
“We were just too young and immature back then. All that love was blind. We couldn’t even imagine a future together.
“He could just walk away and disappear for ten years. That just shows I never really mattered to him.”
But honestly, what truly made Eliana determined to keep her distance from Nathan was actually something else: her previous life.
In her previous life, Nathan never appeared, not even when she was in trouble.
He disappeared from my life for more than ten years, not a single word, not even a trace.
Eliana thought, ‘Life’s only a handful of decades. How many stretches like that does anyone really get?
‘He did just fine without me all those years, which only proves I was just a footnote in his story.
‘And now, he’s got a thriving career, while I’m still struggling to break free from a bad marriage, and I’ve got a kid to think about.
‘The distance between us just keeps growing, and any chance of us getting together is fading fast.
‘After spending my previous life trapped in a failed marriage, I’ve already figured it out. My life has to be about more than just marriage.’
For Eliana, the most important thing in this life was helping her parents keep the Lyons Group going and making sure they enjoy their golden years.
As for everything else, she honestly didn’t have the heart to think about it, and she didn’t want to bother.
After hearing Eliana say all that, Irene was at a loss for words and could only sigh quietly.

Unless Eliana figured out why Nathan disappeared without a word back then, she really wouldn’t consider him again.
Nathan was just as thick–headed. He clearly cared about Eliana, but he insisted on keeping that secret to himself no matter what.
Honestly, those two were both so pigheaded.
“Alright, let’s not talk about all this stuff that just makes us feel uneasy. You know what? I ran into Logan at the hospital today…” Eliana said, changing the subject.
Eliana filled Irene in on what happened at the hospital.
Irene loved every second of it, couldn’t help but clap and cheer.
But soon, a hint of worry flashed in her eyes. “But Eliana, you totally embarrassed him in front of everyone. Isn’t that risky? Aren’t you worried he’ll try to get revenge?
“The way you said he totally lost his cool today, I just have this feeling he’s going to try and get back at you.”
Eliana didn’t care at all.
In her previous life, she put up with everything, and in the end, she still ended up just as miserable.
This time, she wasn’t going to let herself walk all over again.
If she hadn’t gotten another chance, she would’ve died feeling suffocated and powerless. But since life had given her a do–over, she was determined to finally live for herself and do whatever made her happy.
As for everything else, she’d cross that bridge when she got to it.
Logan could barely keep his own life from falling apart. If he wanted to come after her, he’d have to sort out his own mess first.
Instead of stressing about his revenge, she’d rather focus on leveling herself up.
Hearing Eliana say that, Irene couldn’t help but clap. “That’s the Eliana I know. Finally, you’re back.
“I don’t know what snapped you out of your hopeless romantic phase, but honestly, I’m so thankful for it.”
