The clink of fine china and silverware marked the arrival of dessert a delicate plate of dark chocolate mousse garnished with fresh raspberries and a drizzle of raspberry sauce.
The rich scent of cocos filled the air, blending with the faint fragrance of Blooming jasmine from the balcony just beyond our table.
I picked up my fork, but the smooth, sweet surface of the mousse suddenly felt heavy beneath my touch.
A nervous flutter settled low in my stomach, and I swallowed hard, finally looking up at Kane across the table. His eyes met mine, steady and calm, as if he could see right through me.
“I’m… nervous,” I admitted quietly, the words tasting like truth and fear all mixed together. “I don’t really know what to expect. What it will
feel like… or if I’ll be able to handle it.”
He reached across again, his hand closing gently over mine, warm and reassuring.
“Hey,” he said softly, voice low and soothing, “there’s nothing to worry about. We’ll take it slow, every step at your pace. I’ll make sure you’re as
comfortable as possible. This isn’t something I want to force or rush–only something we do together.”
His words wrapped around me like a shield, and a small tremor of relief eased through my chest. I trusted him. I trusted him completely.
“You’re not alone,” he continued, thumb brushing lightly over my knuckles. “I know how scary it can feel, but I promise I’m right here. With
you. Every moment.”
I nodded, feeling tears threaten to spill- not from fear this time, but from the quiet strength in his presence.
“I want this,” I whispered. “For us. For what we could have.”
His smile was soft, almost tender. “So do I. Both me and my wolf feel a whole lot better knowing we’ll return home with the bond fully sealed. It means more than you might realise- it’s not just about the mating itself. It’s about belonging, about building a future where no one can tear
us apart.”
The thought of that future, solid and certain, was intoxicating. I felt a flicker of excitement beneath the nervousness, a small flame burning
bright.
“I’m ready,” I said, voice steady despite the pounding of my heart. “With you.”
Kane squeezed my hand once more before releasing it, his gaze never leaving mine.
“Good,‘ he said softly. “Because tonight, we start that future. Together.”
The moonlight shimmered as I took another bite of the mousse, the bittersweet flavor lingering on my tongue. Everything felt new, fragile-
and full of life.
And with Kane by my side, I knew I could face whatever came next.
The last bites of dessert disappeared slowly as the warm glow of the restaurant wrapped around us like a gentle embrace. The soft murmur of

distant conversations and the clink of glasses created a quiet soundtrack to the evening- a moment suspended in time.
He reached over and brushed a stray curl from my face, watching the faint blush that rose to my cheeks.
“You look radiant tonight, every bit the woman I’ve longed to find.” His words melt through me as I smile shyly.
Just then, I watched as his phone began to buzz quietly against the table.
I glanced down to see Kion’s name flashing on the screen, watching as he answered it quickly, standing and stepping a little away as not to disturb the intimacy of our moment…
“Kion,” He said, voice low but sharp as I strained to still hear him – fearful that our loving moment was soon to be over…
I watched Kane nod his head as Kion spoke to him, studying his features to work out for myself if it were good or bad…
But I felt a surge of gratitude when I watched his shoulders relax and his face brighten. “Should I have brought anything special with me? Anything Tessa might need?”
I wondered what he had up his sleeve now, what was yet to come tonight… it was exhilarating and nerve wracking all at the same time.
But I trusted him.
“Thanks, Kion. I appreciate it. Really.” He wraps up their brief conversation as I avert my gaze to cover up my snooping.
He ended the call, and pocketed the phone, turning back to return to the table.
“Looks like our night’s not over yet, it’s only getting better,” He said with a small smile. “Kion’s set us up somewhere nice to stay. Private, quiet, just for us.”
My eyes widened slightly, a mixture of surprise and excitement sparkling behind them.
“Whenever you’re ready, the driver is already waiting to take us there.” He adds, drinking back the remnants of his drink as I follow his lead and
do the same.
We stood and gathered our things, the anticipation thick in the air between us.
We headed back out, as the limo’s doors closed softly behind us, sealing us in a bubble of quiet luxury as the driver eased the vehicle smoothly
back onto the road once again.
The restaurant lights faded behind us, replaced by stretches of shadowed countryside, the night air crisp and cool against the tinted windows
causing them to frost.
I settled beside him, my hand finding his in the dim interior, fingers curling gently around him.
The silence between us was comfortable – with the kind of calm that only comes when you’re exactly where you need to be.
Outside, the stars began to reveal themselves, one by one, a rare sight since we had been here in Russia.
I turned my head slightly to look out the window, then caught Kane’s gaze

It’s the clearest sky I’ve seen since we arrived,” I whispered, awe threading in my voice.

He quickly nodded and looked out for himself. “Same here. The war, the fighting… it makes you forget how beautiful this place could be on a good night out here, under this sky, it feels like the world’s breathing right again.”
We both fell silent, watching as the stars multiplied a glittering sea of silver stretching endlessly overhead.
You think there’s a story behind every one of those?” I whispered softly, my head leaning against his shoulder.
“I do,” He said, squeezing my hand. “Stories of ancient hunts, old wolves, lost loves… And new beginnings.”
The limo curved gently up a quiet hillside road, the night wrapping around us like a cloak.
The moon hung low and luminous, its silver light pooling on the trees and casting long shadows.
It was a perfect night. Clear, calm, and filled with quiet promise.
And in that moment, I knew there was no place I’d rather be than here beside him, under these stars, on the brink of everything we both
wanted.
