Travis, a distant relative of the Barber family, had shown up at the Ambrosian Refectory last time, claiming to be Laura’s hance.
Nobody really knew if that was true or not, but since he was here again, Linda figured she’d see what he was up to.
Linda set down the pot without a hint of emotion.
Laura said nervously, “Honestly, we could just eat somewhere else. We’d still be full.”
Linda looked at the timid Laura and replied softly, “I’ve got money, Laura. Like I said, you’ll never have to worry about going hungry with me around.
Once they got back, she was going to start refining clixirs.
Everyone said alchemists made fast cash.
If that didn’t pan out, she’d just figure out another way to make ends meet.
Tve got plenty of money,” Linda said.
Laura glanced at Linda and hesitated. “But you’re working so hard. You don’t have to push yourself like this. A sandwich would be enough.”
Linda’s eyes stung with tears.
Just thinking about how innocent and kind Laura was, and how she’d ended up not even leaving a whole body behind, made Linda burn with the urge to wipe out everyone who’d ever hurt her.
Linda said softly, “Just this once. Next time, we won’t come here.
Laura nodded enthusiastically. “Okay!”
Craig and Rafael nodded just as eagerly. “Yeah, let’s pick another spot next time. I know a barbecue joint we always thought was too fancy to try. We’ll be just as satisfied eating somewhere else.”
Honestly, at their level, food wasn’t a necessity anymore. But because Laura had a unique trait that meant she still needed to eat, they’d always join her for meals.
Linda smiled. “Alright.”
Just this once, after that, she’d make sure it was finished for good
Plates just kept coming, like a never–ending stream. Linda, worried Laura might be too shy to dig in, kept piling food onto her plate.
Laura mumbled, “Linda, you’re too slow.”
Linda’s
eyes
curved into a smile. “Why don’t you do it yourself, Laura?”
Laura grinned. “Okay!”
Once she started eating, Laura didn’t hold back at all. She was seriously hungry. Linda and the others could go ten days without food, but if Laura missed even one meal, she’d be dying of hunger.
Sometimes she wondered if it was weird, but her mentor would always say, “Laura, you’re still growing. Eat up. I’ll make sure you’re fed.

Guess I’m sull growing. Laura thought to herself.
Secing Laura finally eating without worry. Linda felt relieved. Craig and Rafael pitched in, carefully picking out the bones and making sine Laura got all the best bits.
The whole Ambrosian Refectory was stunned by the scene.
It was rare to see someone with an appetite like Laura’s, tearing through her food at lightning speed. But it wasn’t messy at all She made eating look downright appetizing.
She had a steady rhythm going. She would have three plates of meat, one plate of carbonhydrate, and then repeat.
She just are way faster than anyone else.
On the second floor, Travis pointed down at Laura and said to the middle–aged man. “That’s her?
You’re sure her constitution is extraordinary?” the middle–aged man asked.
Travis’s eyes grew darker as he said, “Absolutely. The Farrell family couldn’t support her back then, so they abandoned her.
My father tried to bring her back, but by then, she’d already been taken away. We spent years searching, only to find out she’d been adopted by the First Unity Coven.
“She’s come down from the mountain a few times, and I’ve kept an eye on her. The way she devours mana–rich food is anything but ordinary.
“Any regular cultivator would’ve burst from all that mana, but she’s completely unfazed. Plus, her talent is exceptional, too.”
The middle–aged man pulled back the curtain and glanced at Laura, but his gaze didn’t linger on her for long. Instead, it landed on Linda.
A Gilded Phase cultivator at just sixteen… he thought.
“Who’s that girl next to her?” he asked.
Travis couldn’t help but remember how Linda had slapped him more than a dozen times, staring straight into his eyes and threatening to gouge them out. Just thinking about it made him shudder.
“She’s a total lunatic. Seriously, don’t mess with her!” Travis warned.
He thought, ‘Don’t cross Linda, or you’ll end up wishing you were never born!‘
The middle–aged man murmured, “A Gilded Phase cultivator at sixteen years old? Even if she’s nuts, she’s still got real talent.”
He turned to Travis. “The intel you brought this time is solid. I’ll let the family head know. You’ll get a shot at training with the main family”
Travis forced a smile, even though it hurt to hand Laura over. He knew he was no match for Linda and the others.
‘Fine, I’ll just go through with it then, Travis thought.
“But…” the middle–aged man suddenly switched gears, his gaze settling on Linda. “I’m taking one more with me.”

The middle–aged man let out a laugh. “Yeah, she’s strange all right. Foundation Establishment tier, but she can unleash the Gilded Core aura. She’s worth studying.”
He tossed a pouch to Travis.
Travis opened it and saw a Luster Shard brimming with mana.
Travis was stunned.
“A supreme Luster Shard!” he blurted out.
The middle–aged man nodded. “That’s right. As long as you get he job done, once you join the main family, you’ll have plenty of these.”
Travis gritted his teeth and said, “Alright, but we can’t just rush in headfirst. This city’s still under the First Unity Coven’s protection.
“We’ve got to lure them out, get them far enough from the organization’s territory, then you can make your move.
“If those old guys from the organization show up, it won’t matter how many people you bring. You’ll all be toast.”
The middle–aged man nodded, clearly impressed. “Travis, you’re sharp and thorough–minded. Once you join the main family, you’ll definitely become the family head’s right–hand man.”
Travis grinned. “That’ll only happen with your support, Mr. Alexander.”
The two of them exchanged smiles.
Travis glanced over at Linda, thinking to himself, ‘I need to come up with a plan to handle her.‘
Once Laura finally slowed down, Linda called th
manager over to settle the bill.
But the manager just gave her a fawning smile. “Madam, your table’s already been taken care of.”
Laura, Craig, and Rafael all looked over, curious. “What?”
Linda raised an eyebrow. “Is that so? I don’t remember paying for anything.”
“That was me,” Travis called out, making sure everyone heard him.
Travis strutted in, dressed to impress in flashy silk robes and twirling a gold fan, thinking he was the coolest room. But Rafael slammed his hand on the table. “Creep!”
Craig frowned too.
Craig thought, ‘Not this guy again.
‘Like a bad penny, he keeps turning up!’
Laura looked annoyed too.
Linda smirked, “Oh, you picked up the tab?”

Seeing the four of them looking ready to throw down, Travis held up his hands and backed away. “Easy! No need to get all worked up.

A cost him a pile of Luster Shards.
Travis feh the sting in his wallet.
If he wanted the prize, he gotta pay the price.
He just sucked it up.
Travis was pulling out all the stops, spending a ton just to cozy up to Linda and her crew.
Rafael snorted, “What’s your game? Are you apologizing? As if I ever buy that!”

Travis said, trying to sound as apologetic as possible, “I swear, it’s true. When I got home that day, my dad totally chewed me
The First Unity Coven protects our city, and their disciples are like family to us. We owe them everything. Who’d be dumb enough to mess with them?”
Travis looked up, flashing a sheepish grin. “Folks, don’t you think I’ve got a point?”
Rafael thought, Yeah, bullshit!
Linda smirked. “Travis you’re absolutely right.”
The table went dead silent. Rafael was about to let loose with a comeback, but he caught himself, clamped his mouth shut, and sat back down.
Something’s off. Better keep watching Linda thought to herself.
