me off guard. Blake wasn’t being flirty or funny. The seriousness in his eyes was clear as day.
I felt my heart skip a beat and heat rise in my cheeks. “Really? You’ve seen me in this dress before.”
“And I’m sure I told you then as well that you looked beautiful” he leaned forward a little.
Careful there, Mr. B sounds like after catching a cold, now your catching feelings,” I chuckled.
“That’s a problem? Catching feelings?” He asked and tilting his head to the side. He looked adorable when he did that.
“Umm, kinda. My experiment still hasn’t taken place. So don’t make plans in your head until you hear what your parents have to say about me”
I took a sip of my champagne to calm my nerves down. The proximity to Blake, plus this situation, was giving me anxiety.
Blake leaned more toward me and put his arm on the back of my chair. He smelt amazing. I couldn’t put a finger on the smell, but boy, under very different circumstances, I would be very happy to let him fill my holes I was tempted to lean into him and sniff him but resisted my urge.
That was going to give his ego a boost.
Hushed chattering echoed through the hallways, followed by footsteps and heels clicking on the tiled floor. It was all getting louder and closer. My heart started to race, and I shivered a little. Blake must have felt my others. He pulled my chair closer and wrapped his arm around my shoulder protectively. I wanted to push him away and create space between us, but as soon as Blake’s skin touched mine, my racing pulse immediately calmed.
‘I’m telling you, I didn’t know. If I had, this place would have been decorated and filled with people to welcome her,‘ that was Sue’s voice. Seriously? Would they have gone that far with welcoming me?
‘Aren’t you happy that i didn’t tell her? Blake whispered in my ear. His breath blew across my neck, giving me goosebumps. Why had I
suddenly become so sensitive to him?
I just nodded my head vigorously. Hell yeah, I was glad. For what I had planned, the fewer people around, the better.
Finally, the three of them appeared at the doorway. It looked like one of those action movies where the main character does a slow–motion entry. I had met Dwayne Cooper before, but after seeing Blake’s dad, Nathaniel, I couldn’t believe they were from three different generations. All three looked so similar and so young. Mr. Cooper was always dashing, but Blake’s dad looked more like his older brother than a father.
Blake got up and walked over to the approaching trio. I saw Sue whisper something into Nathaniel’s ear.
Popa, you look older than when I saw you last,” Blake said to Mr. Cooper and laughed.
“You fucker,” Mr. Cooper said and pulled Blake into a bug.
Nathaniel and Soe walked over to me as 1 stood up as well.

“Dad, behave!” Nate scolded, and the old man rolled his eyes.
Blake came up behind me and wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me close. His touch was igniting the fire to the already leaking fuel in me. What was he doing? What the hell was I doing enjoying this?! I needed to put an end to this.
