“Don’t be scared, Samuel. Dad’s here. Just drink your herbal remedy,” Logan said seriously, looking at Samuel.
Isabella watched the scene; her eyes flashed with uncase. She looked at Logan and said, “Logan, are you misunderstanding something? I didn’t scare Samuel. How could I ever scare him?
“Did he say something to you?
“It’s not like that. His eyes were hurting this afternoon, and he kept crying. I was afraid he’d hurt his eyes, so I told him if he kept crying, he might really go blind. That’s not really scaring him, is it?
“I was just trying to help, wasn’t I?”
Hearing her explanation, Logan looked up, a hint of mockery flashing in his eyes. “Samuel didn’t say a word. What’s up with you?”
Catching the meaning behind Logan’s words, Isabella was embarrassed.
Realizing she’d just given herself away, Isabella stammered, “I–I was just worried you’d get the wrong idea. I saw how Samuel looked just now, and I…”
Logan watched her stammering, trying to explain, and cut her off, clearly out of patience.
“Just stay out of Samuel’s business from now on. It’s not your fault. You’ve never had kids, so you wouldn’t know how to take care of them.
“Isabella, you’re only staying here temporarily, and it’s just for your safety. Don’t read anything else into it. I want you to be clear about that.
“I don’t want to talk about this anymore. Just go get some rest.”
Logan’s words were as blunt as they could get. Isabella’s face kept switching between red and pale.
She wanted to say something, but her throat felt tight, and everything she wanted to say got stuck. She couldn’t get a single word out.
Logan had already turned away to comfort Samuel, and Sophie and the others were busy with their own stuff, not even sparing her a glance.
Isabella just couldn’t take it anymore. She turned around and walked off.
Logan noticed Isabella leaving, and right away, he saw Samuel finally relax, all the tension draining from him.
Just seeing Samuel react like that was all the proof Logan needed. He didn’t need to say anything else.
After Samuel finished his herbal remedy and went to rest, Logan found Sophie again. “From now on, when I’m not home, don’t let Isabella take care of Samuel.
“If she insists, make sure you’re there too. Don’t ever leave her alone with Samuel.

If things really dose up, just give me a call. But before that, just don’t let her be alone with Samuel, no matter
す
what
Sophie modded quickly.
Seeing how Samuel had reacted earlier, Sophie pretty much figured out what was up, and she couldn’t help Inu feel bad for him.
, when Logan said this, she agreed right away, no hesitation.
After giving Sophie his instructions, Logan finally headed into his study.
There was still a mountain of work from the company waiting for him. He really didn’t have a moment to
spare.
As he forced himself to tackle all those tasks, Logan found himself missing the days when Eliana was home
even more.
He only realized how much she meant to him when she’d gone.
This time, Logan wasn’t just fighting for Samuel. He was fighting for himself, too.
Logan barely got any sleep that night. By the time he finally shut down his computer, it was already morning, and he couldn’t hide how tired he was.
He leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes for a bit, but the sounds from outside woke him up right away.
When Logan stepped out of his study, Sophie had already helped Samuel get washed up and ready for the day.
When she saw him come out, Sophie looked genuinely surprised. “Did you not sleep at all last night, Jack?”
Logan rubbed his temples and nodded. “Take Samuel to breakfast. I’ll go wash up, then we’ll head out.”
As Logan headed upstairs to wash up, Samuel’s eyes lit up with excitement. He turned to Sophie and said happily, “Sophie, I’m going to see Mom soon. I’m so happy!”
Sophie’s face broke into a smile, too. “Really, Mr. Samuel? That’s great!
“You’re not the only one, you know, even I miss Mrs. Eliot sometimes.
“When Mrs. Eliot was home, everything was so neat and cozy. It just felt so peaceful around here…”
As she spoke, Sophie found herself wanting to suggest that Samuel ask Eliana to come back.
But when the words reached her lips, she hesitated, unable to say it aloud.
Now, Logan and Samuel both wanted Eliana back, but it was really just because life wasn’t as comfortable for them without her.

But ever since Samuel was born, no one understood better than Sophie, who’d watched from the sidelines, what kind of days Eliana had been living all these years.
So, when it came to actually asking Eliana to return, she truly couldn’t bring herself to say it out loud.
But just as Sophie stopped herself, Isabella, who was coming downstairs, picked up on what she was about to
say.
“What did you mean just now, Sophie? Are you suggesting Ms. Lyons should come back?” Isabella asked.
As soon as Isabella’s voice rang out, Samuel, who hadn’t even seen her yet, shrank back behind Sophie, clearly scared.
Seeing how scared Samuel was, Sophie instinctively stepped in front of him, shielding him from Isabella. She looked at Isabella and said, “Ms. Hewitt, you must be joking.
“Matters like this are for the family to decide. We’re just staff and boarders here. It’s really not our place to get involved.”
With that one line, Sophie put Isabella squarely in the guest category.
Truth be told, Sophie had never been a fan of Isabella. But since Logan and Samuel seemed to like her so much, Sophie knew she couldn’t afford to step on her toes.
Now, seeing how Logan and Samuel were treating Isabella, Sophie knew where she stood, and she finally felt bold enough to speak her mind.
Isabella was caught off guard by Sophie’s words and didn’t know how to clap back, so she just swallowed her annoyance and turned to Samuel. “Samuel, can I talk to you for a minute?”
Seeing Isabella come closer, Samuel gripped Sophie’s clothes even tighter, hiding behind her and crying out, “I don’t want you! I don’t want you!”
Isabella’s face changed a little, and she sighed. “Samuel, don’t be naughty. You said you didn’t want your mom before, but now you’re making a fuss about wanting her again.
“You can’t just say whoever looks after you is bad. We’re doing this for your own good, you know.
“Come here and be good, okay?”
As she spoke, Isabella reached out, trying to pull Samuel out from behind Sophie.
She’d come down late and missed Logan, so she had no idea he was still home. That was why she was acting all fearless.
But just as Isabella reached for Samuel, Logan came downstairs and saw everything. His voice snapped through the room, cold and sharp. “What do you think you’re doing?”
