Her eyes widened in surprise as Eliana looked at Logan. “What’s up? Is there something else you need?”
Logan then stepped forward, coming right up to her. He reached out and gently wiped a bit of food from the corner of Samuel’s mouth.
Eliana thought his move was kind of intimate, but since he was just helping Samuel, she didn’t say anything. She instinctively took a small step back and wiped Samuel’s mouth herself.
Once she was done, Eliana looked at Logan seriously and asked again, “Is there something else you need? Or is there something you’re still worried about?”
Logan let out a soft sigh and said seriously, “Eliana, I’m Samuel’s dad. I’m worried about him. What’s wrong with me tagging along?
“We’re not even divorced yet. Do you really have to act like I’m some kind of stranger?”
Eliana shot back, “That’s exactly why I have to keep my distance, because we’re still married. Logan, you’ve managed to destroy the last shred of good I ever saw in you.
“I used to think that, no matter what, you’d at least keep your world, that you had some principles. But I never thought you’d break your promise about something as big as our divorce.”
Logan’s eyes flashed with emotion as he listened to Eliana, but he quickly reined it in and just let out a soft sigh.
“I thought you were just venting when you brought up divorce. I figured after a month of cooling off, you’d have dropped it by now,” he said.
He added, “The whole reason I agreed was to give you all the time and space you needed. I really thought that after a month, our family would just go back to how it used to be.
“But I honestly don’t get why you’re so set on divorcing me now. Eliana, it’s not like there’s some huge deal–breaker between us, right? We don’t have any problems we can’t work out.”
“But why are you so determined?” Logan spoke with a tenderness that was impossible to ignore.
Logan sighed and said earnestly, “Eliana, it’s rare for us to take Samuel out together. I really don’t want to get into a fight over who’s right or wrong, especially now.
“Samuel just had eye surgery, and there are a lot of things to watch out for. It might be tough for you to manage everything by yourself.
“I don’t have anything else planned today anyway. Would it be okay if I stick around and help out?”
Logan said all this with a clear sense of caution, like he was walking on eggshells.
It was the first time Eliana had ever seen him like this.
But for Eliana, the thought of the three of them going out together as a family was just wishful thinking back then
When Samuel was little, he was always happy to go out with her but whenever she tied to get Logan to come along hed always find some reason not to go.
Sometimes, he’d even get impatient and ask if she couldn’t even handle looking after a kid, saying he was the one keeping the family afloat, and she didn’t even have to work as he did
As Samuel grew older, he started copying his dad ended up hatg her thinking she was just an embarrassinent, and flat–out

refused to go out with her anymore.

But in this life, she’d stopped even wishing for moments like this and yet here they were, Logan, saying he missed her, and Samuel couldn’t wait to join in.
‘Seriously, what’s the point in trying to make sense of things? This world is just one big joke, Eliana wondered.
But looking at the big bag Logan was lugging around, packed with all sorts of supplies, Eliana couldn’t help but worry she might make a mistake and mess up Samuel’s recovery.
Even if Eliana tried to act indifferent, Samuel was still her son. Deep down, she just wanted him to get better.
So after Logan finished speaking, Eliana didn’t say another word
She didn’t say yes, but she didn’t refuse either. Holding Samuel in her arms, she headed outside.
Once they got in the car, Eliana looked over at Samuel and asked “Samuel, where do you want to go today? Do you want me to come with you?”
Samuel nodded right away. “Mom, I want to go to the amusement park.”
Eliana hesitated for a second, then nodded and said seriously, “I can take you to the amusement park, but since your eyes are still recovering from surgery, you’ll have to skip the really exciting rides, okay?
“They’re not good for your eyes. If you’re okay with that, I’ll take you.”
Samuel nodded eagerly.
A flicker of surprise flashed in Eliana’s eyes at how quickly Samuel agreed.
Back in the day, if she tried to set any conditions like this, Samuel would have rolled his eyes and complained about how annoying she was. But now, he didn’t even protest, just nodded without a word.
She didn’t know what he’d been through, but Eliana felt a bittersweet mix of emotions. For a moment, she honestly couldn’t tell if she should be happy or just sad.
Samuel was her own son, yet he was always so quick to buy into what people around him said, thinking his dad was some kind of superhero, and his mom was just a stay–at–home mom who didn’t get it.
Boys naturally idolized strength, so he kept admiring his dad more and more, barely giving his mom a second thought.
She’d tried over and over to change the way Samuel saw things,ut it was always pointless.
Funny enough, when she finally stopped interfering, he ended turning out just fine.
Sliding into the driver’s seat, Eliana caught a glimpse of Samuel the rearview mirror. Seeing him sitting there so quiet and well–behaved, her feelings were all over the place.
But it was just a rare day with him, so Eliana didn’t let herself overthink it. She simply drove away.
As soon as her car pulled away, Logan’s car quickly followed belt.
When they arrived at the amusement park, Eliana got out of the car with Samuel in her arms. Logan hurried over to buy two coffees, then rushed back and handed one to Eliana,
“I got this just for you,” Logan said, sounding a little anxious, like he was afraid Eliana might turn it down. “One for each of
Samuel’s still too young, and since you wouldn’t let him have any, I didn’t get him one.”
- us.
Hearing Logan say all that, Eliana couldn’t help but feel the iron; it was almost laughable.

So he wasn’t clueless at all. He knew she liked to grab a coffee whenever they went out, and he knew she kept Samuel away from all that junk food for his own good.
But back then, he never cared. Whenever she got into it with Samuel or his parents over stuff like this, he never once had her back.
So now, seeing him go out of his way to please her, Eliana just found it all so ironic she almost wanted to laugh.
She didn’t reach for the coffee. Instead, Eliana just said coolly, “I’ve got Samuel in my arms. It’s not convenient
With that, she walked inside, holding Samuel close.
Logan took a deep breath, grabbed both coffees, and hurried after her.
