Logan had already talked to Samuel beforehand, so to make sur Eliana would come home, Samuel kept sneaking glances at Logan, trying to read his mood.
Sometimes he’d urge Eliana to drink her coffee, and other times he’d say he was worried she might be tired, then suggest that Logan hold him for a while instead.
Andrew and the professional photographer he’d brought along managed to capture every moment, Eliana taking the coffee from Logan, and Logan gently lifting Samuel out of her arms.
Later, they snapped shots of the three of them having dinner together, and Logan even playfully tried to feed Eliana.
Even though Eliana didn’t actually eat, the way the photos were ken made it look pretty intimate.
Eliana could tell Logan was laying it on thick today, but she did overthink it. She just assumed he was trying to sweet–talk her into coming back and working herself to the bone for him again.
Honestly, Eliana was really put off by Logan’s behavior, but she hadn’t spent any time with Samuel in a whole month. Figuring she finally had this rare day with her son, she just sucked it up for Samuel’s sake.
It wasn’t until evening, once they stepped out of the amusement park, that Eliana finally spoke up. “Alright, since you’re here, I don’t need to take him home. Why don’t you take Samuel back?”
With that, Eliana turned to leave.
Logan’s brows knitted, but before he could say a word, Samuel darted forward and wrapped his tiny arms around Eliana’s
waist.
Samuel clung to her, his voice trembling. “Mommy, don’t go. Please don’t leave me, okay?”
Samuel sniffled, “I know I was naughty before, but I’ve learned my lesson now. Will you come home with me, Mommy?”
Logan didn’t expect Samuel to say that and just froze for a second.
But then, he couldn’t help but feel secretly pleased. He knew Eliana could never say no to Samuel when he was like this.
Sure, she might still be mad or annoyed about what happened before, maybe even giving them the cold shoulder.
But now that Samuel had apologized, and after all these years of loving him, there’s no way Eliana could just stop loving her kid overnight.
But Logan didn’t get to enjoy his little victory for long before he met Eliana’s cold, disgusted stare.
Eliana snapped, “Logan, is this how you teach your child? What do you really see Samuel as, a tool?”
She went on, “Whenever you want to suppress or control me, you use the threat of keeping me from Samuel. Time and again, you use him to force me to compromise.
“Now that I’ve finally let go and I’m ready to start a new life, you trying to use Samuel to pull me back in. What do you really see Samuel as?”
The more Eliana thought about it, the angrier she got.
She crouched down, meeting Samuel’s eyes with a steady, heartt gaze. “Samuel, it’s not that I don’t want you. I’ll always be your mom, and that will never change.

doesn’t welcome me anymore, so I can’t go back.
“But if you ever want to come stay with me at the Lyons family for a few days, you’re always welcome. Whenever you miss me, just call, and I can come get you anytime.”
Eliana added, “But you can’t let people with their own agendas use you to make things difficult for me. You have to understand, me not living with your dad is totally different from not wanting you, okay?”
Samuel didn’t really get everything Eliana said, but seeing how serious she was, he nodded back just as earnestly.
Logan tried to hold it in at first, but as Eliana kept going, he couldn’t hold back anymore and burst out, “Eliana, seriously, enough!
“Since when did I ever tell Samuel to say all that crap? Those were his own words, not mine.
“You say you want a divorce, so you just up and walk out. Samuel hasn’t seen you in a month; he misses you. Can you stop acting like everything’s some big plot against you?”
Seeing Logan all riled up, Eliana finally let go of Samuel and stood up slowly. She met Logan’s eyes and said seriously, “If that’s really true, then good.”
She added, “Logan, since we’re already being this honest, I don’t mind being blunt. Not in this lifetime will I ever go back to the Eliot family. This marriage? It’s over. I’m divorcing you, and that’s final.
“If you can accept that, at least we can keep a shred of dignity. But if you want to keep playing games and scheming, then bring it on, I won’t back down, no matter what you try.”
With that, Eliana didn’t bother with Logan’s reaction. She turned and strode straight to her car, then sped off without looking back.
Logan just stood there, her words echoing in his head. It took him a long moment to pull himself out of that dark mood.
Logan swallowed down his emotions, grabbed Samuel’s hand, and headed for the car.
Samuel watched Logan’s troubled face, his voice cautious. “Dad, why doesn’t Mommy want to come back? Did I do something wrong?”
“No, it’s not that. It’s just your mom-” Logan faltered, struggling for words.
He wanted to say Eliana had changed, but worried Samuel wouldn’t want to help bring her home if he did. After a pause, he said, “We just haven’t tried hard enough.
“We haven’t treated your mom very well lately, and she’s angry. Sometimes, when someone’s upset, cheering them up takes more than one try. If we keep at it, she’ll forgive us.
“It didn’t work this time, but we’ll try again next time, okay?”
Samuel nodded slowly, the tension in his brow finally casing up bit.
As soon as Logan and Samuel got in the car, Logan dialed Andrey. “Did you get all the shots I wanted?”
Andrew replied right away, “Yes, sir. I got all the shots you asked for. I’ve already organized them and emailed them to you.”
“Okay,” Logan said and hung up.
He opened his email and started scrolling through the photos, mentarily lost in thought.
The candid shots were so well done. It looked just like a happy family out for a day together.

There were pictures of him handing Eliana coffee, gently lifting Bamuel from her arms, and even one where he was offering
her a bite to eat.
Every photo captured a moment that felt so warm and genuine, like a picture–perfect family outing.
And that kind of happiness, it had truly been his once.
Right then, Logan couldn’t say why, but a late, sour ache rose up in his chest, leaving him hurting inside and out.
And when he thought about how Eliana treated him now, that pain only grew sharper.
Logan sat there for a while, letting the ache fade before he finally pulled himself together and forwarded the photos to PR.
