Chapter 11

ACE’S POV

None of my business

Those words hurt more than I cared to admit. I only asked because I wanted to hear it directly from her. I wanted her to say it to my face. Even though I already knew the truth

When Charlotte told me she had a son and he might be in trouble, my body moved before my mind did. I didn’t think twice. I offered to drive her, not knowing what I would find at that school

A part of me was terrified. Did she find a second chance mate? Did she fall in love with someone else? Did she have a child with another man, all because I rejected her six years ago

I shut my eyes, trying to block the thoughts from lingering. The idea of her being with another wolf made something wild snap inside me. My wolf and I almost went crazy at the thought

But when we got to the school and I saw Liam, my questions were answered

The boy looked almost exactly like I did when I was his age. Same curls and eyes

Same little frown when he talked

And I confirmed it more when I saw the half moon on his neck. The exact same spot I carried mine. A mark that only an Alpha passes down to his son

It becomes a full moon when he grows into his Alpha strength

I used to have mine too, but it started fading when my curse got worse

Now it’s gone completely

I wanted to be in their lives so much, to tell him that I was his father and lay claims but I can’t do that

I’ll have my assistant bring back your car in an hour.”

Thank you.”

She turned and walked upstairs without looking back

I didn’t return to my office. I just drove. With no destination in mind

I canceled everything on my schedule

The images of Ethan touching and caressing Charlotte’s face, holding her like she belonged to him flooded my eyes. My grip tightened on the wheel and I pressed harder on the pedal

It was already dark when I drove into my pack. Something felt off

The air was tense, the buildings looked disturbed, like a fight had happened

I barely stepped into my office when Roman burst in

I scowled at him and he quickly apologized

Sorry, Alpha,he said quickly with a small bow. But where have you been? I called your phone nonstop and you didn’t

answer. I called your secretary and they said she’s been fired. What’s happening?”

1 shoved my hand inside my pocket and realized that my phone wasn’t there

I must’ve left it at the office.I muttered

You also cancelled your meeting with the elders,Roman added. They’re upset.”

This isn’t the first time. They’ll survive,I said, brushing it off. Did anything else happen?”

Roman’s jaw tightened. There was a rogue attack.”

My scowl deepened. A what?I stood up so fast the chair shifted back. Who dared attack my pack?”

They were about fifty rogues,Roman said carefully, and they headed straight for the pack house.”

That’s impossible,I growled. Our borders are heavily secured. No one enters my territory unless someone helps them.”

I can’t really explain it,Roman said, rubbing the back of his neck. They came from the East wing. I was going over some business with Damien, the Gamma when the attack started.”

Did anyone get hurt?”

He went silent

My anger snapped. What the hell, Roman? You can’t talk anymore?!”

I’m sorry, Alpha,he blurted out. But your Luna, she was right there when they invaded, and she was badly hurt.”

My chest tightened. Where is she?”

At the private pack hospital.”

I didn’t waste another second. I left the office and headed straight to the hospital, hoping that the injury wasn’t too bad

When I arrived, a few wolves sat outside with bandages and scratches, nothing too serious. But the worry in their eyes told me that whatever happened inside was worse

Some of the warriors were able to save them before the rogues did any more damage,” Roman explained

I hope all their necks were snapped,I muttered in a cold voice

Yes, Alpha, but we left one alive. He’s in the cage. We planned to interrogate him tomorrow.”

Make it tonight,I ordered. I want him to see my face before I snap his neck.”

Roman swallowed hard. Yes, Alpha.”

I pushed the door open and stepped into the private room

Moon lay on the bed, looking pale, with two doctors checking her wounds

The moment they saw me, they bowed immediately

Alpha, they greeted before slipping out of the room

Chapter 11

Roman followed them out, closing the door quietly behind him

She looked so defeated lying on the bed, her eyes dull, her shoulders sunken in. But she didn’t look badly injured Maybe she had healed already. I stood there for a second, unsure of what to feel or say

Are you okay? The question left my mouth before I could stop it

My relationship with Moon hasn’t been the same since the day I rejected her sister. Back then, even with my curse eating me alive, I still loved her. But over time, something in me started fading, like someone slowly dimming a light. And when the chef confessed that everything about the poison was a lie, it was like a veil lifted. I looked at Moon and didn’t see the woman I once loved anymore

I confronted her, demanded the truth, but she swore Charlotte brought the food herself. Before I could get more answers. the chef was murdered. The truth died with her

Moon’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts

I didn’t think you were going to come.”

I sat on the small stool the doctor had been using moments ago. It felt too small for me, but I stayed anyway

And why would you think I wouldn’t come? You are my Luna.”

Am I really? Her voice cracked, and tears rolled down her cheeks. When was the last time you even looked for me? I call you all the time. You don’t pick up. You don’t reply. It’s like I don’t exist to you. You don’t love me anymore.”

Right

I don’t love her anymore. Whatever feeling I had left for her disappeared four years ago. She knows that and wants to stay. She held on to the title of being Ace’s mate and Luna

I only married her to fill the Luna’s seat. A powerful Alpha needs a Luna beside him. And the moon goddess made sure I could never mark another woman after Charlotte

I only came to see if you’re doing alright.”

My voice came out flat. I didn’t have the strength to argue with her. That’s all we ever do anyway

She let out a sarcastic laugh. You always say that. And then you disappear for weeks. You don’t text. You don’t call. You just send your assistant to dump money in my account like that fixes anything.”

You know what I’m going throughI muttered

It’s been six years, six freaking years! Her voice rose. When are you going to stop using that as an excuse? Grow up, Ace! You got cursed for rejecting your mate, the same mate who poisoned me. Ace, she’s the reason I lost our pup as I can’t get pregnant again. She’s evil. She deserves whatever happened to her.”

Her face twisted, all the softness she had a moment ago gone

This mean, bitter version of her, this was who she truly was. And I was the fool who once loved her enough not to see any it

Images from ten years ago flashed through my head

I remembered walking into Moon’s father’s mansion to see her

It was Charlotte’s birthday. Her friends had baked her a small cake to surprise her after school. They were all in the kitchen

sailing giggling, trying to light the candles

Then Aloon stormed into the kitchen

Before anyone understood what was happening, she slapped the cake off Charlotte’s hands. It splattered across her friends, frosting everywhere. Charlotte, shocked and confused, opened her mouth to ask why. Moon’s hand met her cheek so fast

Her mother rushed in, took one look, and supported her daughter instantly. Not even a question. Just blind support for something cruel

Damn

Thinking about it now, I must have been very stupid. I saw all of this. I saw who she was. And I still stayed. I still thought I loved her

I left the hospital room without another word, her loud voice echoing behind me, filling every hallway. The pack members were throwing me scared looks

I walked straight to my office. I needed to get some work done before heading to the cage. I needed to find out how fifty rogues got into my pack and who helped them

Because someone had. And that someone was going to pay

The Luna insists that you come back,Roman said as he followed me into office

Tell me something new.”

He chuckled under his breath

my

His eyes moved to the untouched bottles of medicine on my table. Have the cleaners take that away in the morning.I instructed him

He leaned on the doorframe, watching me. I noticed you haven’t taken anything since you went to the Graves hospital on Monday. Whatever she gave you must be working, you haven’t had the usual hits.”

I nodded softly. Images of Charlotte flooding through my eyes. Gosh, she’s so beautiful and the way she takes care of her patients and her son. If only I could get a fraction of that care from her, I knew it would be enough to keep me breathing

You like her, don’t you?Roman’s smile had that knowing curl, the kind that made you uncomfortable

No, I don’t!That was a lie

I do have a question, though,he continued, leaning against the wall. How is it that she’s being so nice to you after everything you did to her years ago? No one would forgive something like that, no matter how good they are.”

I hesitated, thinking. I honestly don’t know.My eyes dropped for a second. You believe she’s really the same person, right? I’m not imagining this?”

Of course,Roman said easily. Then his eyes darkened with curiosity. But here’s what I don’t get. How did she go from Charlotte Creed to Charlotte Graves? And that mark on her face, gone? How does that happen? Do her parents even know she’s alive?”

He shook his head. Not that they ever cared. Those people treated her like dirt, like she was nothing.”

His last words dragged out a fresh sting in my chest. We all treated her like dirt,I admitted quietly. Everyone in the pack took their time mocking her.”

And nowRoman said, lifting a brow, she’s the same woman who might end up saving your life. But the real question it. why does the act like she doesn’t know you?He folded his arms. The night you sent her into exile was the last time anyone save her We searched for years, Ace. It was like she vanished from the world”

Slowly, shaking my head. Whatever is happening, one thing I know is that I don’t deserve her.”

I finished what I had to do and went straight to the cage to deal with the rogue. The weekend had been long and draining, but I managed to reschedule Charlotte’s appointment for next week. I disappointed her last time, and this time, I meant to keep my word. I was also thinking of ways to get closer to her, and to my son

The pack and the elders kept me busy, and for a moment, I completely forgot about my hospital appointment on Monday

Until it all came back
