The Biker Alpha Who Became My Second Chance Mate
Chapter 391
Tristan
Three months.

That’s how long we’d been married in every sense of the word, and I still couldn’t quite believe my luck.
I and Orion sat at dining table, nursing a cup of coffee while we sorted through some company documents.
Sarah had taken Liam to a doctor’s appointment, leaving just us four.
Upstairs, I could hear Lily’s excited chatter and Athena’s softer responses as they worked in the nursery, arranging the last of the baby items we’d been accumulating.
“You’re smiling again,” Orion said without looking up from his papers.
“Am I?’
“You’ve been doing that a lot lately.” He glanced up, grinning. “The dopey, love–sick smile. It’s disgusting.”
“Shut up,” I said, but I was still smiling. I couldn’t help it.
These past three months had been the happiest of my life. Waking up next to Athena every morning, her body curved against mine, my hand on her growing belly. Feeling our babies kick and move throughout the day
Coming home from the company to find her in the kitchen, trying out new recipes and usually making a mess. The quiet evenings on the couch, her feet in my lap while we watched terrible reality TV that she loved and I pretended to hate.
Everything was perfect. More than perfect.
“How’s she feeling?” Orion asked, his tone shifting to something more serious. “The pregnancy, I mean. Eight months now, right?”
‘Thirty–three weeks,” I confirmed. “She’s tired a lot. Her back hurts. The babies are getting big, so everything’s cramped. But she’s healthy. Strong. The doctor said everything looks good at her last appointment.”
“That’s good.” Orion set down his pen. “Sarah was miserable by eight months with both of hers. Couldn’t sleep, couldn’t get comfortable. Made me rub her feet every night.”
‘I do that for Athena too,” I admitted. “And her back. And basically whatever else she needs.”
“Whipped,” Orion said, but there was affection in his voice.
“Completely, I agreed without shame.
Upstairs, I could hear Lily asking Athena something about the stuffed animals they were organizing. Athena’s laugh floated down, warm and genuine, and I felt that familiar surge of contentment. My mate. My wife. The mother of my children. Happy and safe and…
A scream cut through the house.

Not loud. Not the kind of scream that would make a human panic. But I was a wolf, and it was Athena, and I heard it as clearly as if she’d been
standing right next to me.
Pain. Fear. Something wrong.
I was on my feet before I consciously decided to move, my chair crashing backward. Orion was up too, his Alpha instincts triggered by the same
sound.
We hit the stairs at the same time, taking them two at a time, my heart pounding so hard I could feel it in my throat.
“Athena!” I called out, my voice rough with fear.
“In here!” Lily’s voice, high and frightened. “Something’s wrong with Aunt Athena!”
I burst through the nursery door, Orion right behind me.
Athena was on the floor, doubled over, her arms wrapped around her belly. Her face was pale, her forehead beaded with sweat. Lily stood beside her, tears streaming down her face, one small hand on Athena’s shoulder.
“Athena!” I dropped to my knees beside her, my hands hovering over her body, afraid to touch her, afraid of making whatever this was worse. “What’s wrong? What happened?”
“My stomach,” she gasped, her voice tight with pain. “It hurts. Something’s wrong, Tristan. Something’s wrong with the babies.”
Ice flooded my veins. No. No, this couldn’t be happening. Not now. Not when everything had been so perfect.
“Okay, okay,” I said, trying to keep my voice calm even though panic was clawing at my chest. “Can you stand? We need to get you to the
hospital.”
“I don’t know,” she whimpered, and that sound–Athena never whimpered, she was strong and stubborn and fierce–that sound nearly broke me.
I looked at Orion, who had scooped up Lily and was already moving toward the door. “Get the car,” I said, my voice coming through without
meaning to. “Now.”
“On it,” Orion said, already disappearing down the hallway with Lily in his arms.
I turned back to Athena, my hands shaking as I gently touched her face. She was burning up, her skin hot and clammy under my fingers. Through our bond, I could feel her pain–sharp and cramping, radiating from her abdomen in waves that made me want to double over too.
“I’ve got you, baby,” I said, sliding one arm under her knees and the other behind her back. “I’m going to pick you up, okay? Tell me if it hurts
too much.”
“Everything hurts,” she sobbed, but she wrapped her arms around my neck
I lifted her as carefully as I could, but she still cried out, her body tensing in my arms. Each sound of pain she made was like a knife to my chest. This was my mate, my wife, the woman carrying my children, and she was hurting and I couldn’t fix it.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” I murmured, moving as quickly as I dared toward the stairs. Each step felt like an eternity. What if I jostled her too much? What if I made things worse? What if…
No. I couldn’t think like that. I had to stay calm. For her. For our babies.

Chapter 391
Tristan, Athena gasped against my chest. I’m scared. It’s too early. They’re not supposed to come yet. We still have three more weeks”
I know, baby. I know. My voice cracked despite my best efforts. “But you’re strong. The babies are strong. We’re going to get you to the hospital and everything’s going to be okay?
Please let everything be okay, Moon Goddess, please.
Orion had the car running in the driveway, the back door already open. Lily was in the front seat, her face streaked with tears but her expression determined–Sarah’s and Orion’s daughter through and through staying strong in a crisis.

I slid into the back with Athena still in my arms, not willing to let her go even for a second. Orion floored it before I’d even closed the door.
“Call Sarah, I told him, my voice steadier than I felt. “Tell her to meet us at the hospital. And call Dr. Chen. Tell her it’s an emergency.”
“Already on it,” Orion said, phone pressed to his ear as he wove through traffic with the kind of reckless speed that would normally make me yell at him. Now I wanted him to go faster.
Athena moaned, her body curling tighter against me. Through our bond, I felt another wave of pain hit her, stronger this time, and I actually gasped from the intensity of it.
“Breathe,” I told her, trying to remember what we’d learned in those birthing classes. “In through your nose, out through your mouth. That’s it, baby. Just breathe.”
“Something’s wrong,” she kept saying, over and over like a mantra. “I can feel it. Something’s wrong with them.”
