I scoffed. “Oh yeah? Because from what you told me, she still fought back. She injured you so badly even after you injected her.” I turned to face him. “You had the chance to finish her off yourself. You didn’t need to wait for the serum to do the work.”
His jaw tightened, veins pulling together. “She’s strong as hell. She’s not just some ordinary doctor.” He exhaled slowly. “I didn’t fight her for long, but the way she attacked me. He sighed, like he was already tired of me. “You should have treated her better. The news is you treated her like trash, bullied her for years. You would’ve gained influence, respect, and popularity.” His eyes met mine. “Compared to her, you’re nothing.”
In seconds, I was right in front of him, my hands clenched. “Say that again,” I warned. “I dare you to call me nothing one more time.”
He didn’t back away. Instead, he leaned closer, a slow, ugly grin spreading across his face. “Did that hit a nerve?” he murmured. “Because whether you like it or not, you’re truly nothing compared to her.”
I snapped. I wrapped my hand around his neck, letting my wolf take over. I wanted to choke the life out of him, wanted to feel him break under my grip.
But he was faster than me. In one swift move, he peeled my hand off his neck and twisted it behind my back. Pain exploded through me and I screamed before I could stop myself. He didn’t hesitate, he hurled me across the balcony and my body slammed hard against the rail. The impact knocked the air out of my lungs and I dropped with a groan, pain shooting through my side.
I forced myself up, dizzy but angry, and charged at him again. That was a mistake.
He caught me easily this time, pinning me to the wall. My back was pressed to his chest, my face squashed painfully against the cold surface of the wall. I struggled but it was useless, he was far stronger.
“Apologize,” he ordered.
I hated him at that moment. But I hated my helplessness even more. He was vile but he had been helping me, and I knew pushing him further would end badly.
“I’m sorry,” I muttered, the words tasting bitter in my mouth.
