I would rather die than agree to a divorce, especially now I know that Charlotte is alive and back, ready to take what was supposed to be hers as the true Luna. Roman had been away from the pack for two days and I knew he would be back today. It is that time of the year when he usually cooks up believable lies and feeds it to Ace as his reason for going out of town for two days or more. He leaves to go see his mother whom everyone believes died along with his father during that bloody period years ago.
I drove to Roman’s house when I realized he hadn’t returned yet. I parked and waited. I knew he would show up today. Two hours later, his car pulled into the driveway. The moment he saw me standing in front of his house, his eyes hardened.
“What are you doing in my house?” he asked sharply as he unlocked the door. He grabbed my hand and dragged me inside. “This isn’t some secret house. People could have seen you.”
“Relax. No one saw me. I made sure of that,” I said to put his mind at ease. I walked straight into his kitchen and poured myself a glass of water. I got thirsty while waiting outside for hours. He followed me to the kitchen.
“What do you want?” he asked again.
I finished the water and dropped the empty glass on the table. “How’s your mother? Is she getting any better?”
“My mother is none of your business,” he snapped. “Tell me why you’re here.”
“You can’t be mad at me,” I said coldly. “I’m not the one who put her in that condition. If you want to be angry, direct it where it belongs. At Ace and his family.” I stepped closer. “But you won’t. You stay by his side, loyal like a coward, while your mother wastes away.” His jaw tightened. “Is it because of the benefits? Because of the protection, the respect, the power that comes with being his beta?” I scoffed lightly. “I get it. The world suddenly treats you better just because you’re attached to him.”
His eyes flashed with anger. “I can say the same for you. We’re both the same,” he said bitterly. “Clinging to him and refusing to let go because of the benefits we get from him. The only difference is that he wants a divorce from you, and you want to mark him and carry his pup.”
“We’ve been together for so many years,” I snapped back. “I deserve to bear his mark and carry his pups.”
He let out a mocking laugh. “Yes, like how you lied to him six years ago and said you were pregnant for him, then blamed Charlotte for losing the baby.” He waved his hand in the air, forcing me to keep listening. “You’re the worst kind of woman anyone would call a wife or a mate.” My body went still at his last words. “You cheated on him and got pregnant by the man you cheated with. Then you pushed the child on Ace like it was his. When you realized the truth would come out, you made sure that baby didn’t survive.” His eyes were dark as they locked on mine. “You needed someone to blame, and Charlotte was perfect for that role.”

I shrugged, not sorry in the slightest for what I did. It was during the time I was acting wild. I did a lot of things I don’t regret. Charlotte had burned the clothes I asked her to iron. She ruined them and I got pissed. I felt disrespected and needed to punish her. So I decided to burn her back as pay back for ruining my clothes to teach her a lesson. She has become so used to us denying her food that it didn’t feel like punishment anymore, burning her back with iron was the best thing that I could think of and it was perfect. She was wailing loudly in pain and it gave me so much satisfaction.
Ace caught me that day, but he didn’t truly see what I was doing to Charlotte. He only saw through the window that she was on her knees, crying and shaking. Ace hates bullying and never takes it lightly whenever he thinks someone is being bullied. If he had actually seen what I was doing to her in that basement, he would not have let it slide at all. In his eyes I was the perfect innocent girlfriend and I wanted him to always believe that. Till today, I still wonder why he came down to the basement that evening.
He asked me to apologize to Charlotte and I refused. He was so mad and broke up with me. It was more annoying that he broke up with me because of Charlotte, that silly girl.
I wanted to get back at him for forcing me to apologize to that dirty thing, so I cheated on him with my real mate. Everyone believed Ace and I were mates, but we both knew we weren’t. Around that time, I had just found my mate. I didn’t want to reject him, and I also didn’t want to lose Ace. So I kept Ace by my side and used my mate to satisfy my urges whenever Ace was angry with me or pushed me away. That night, I went to my mate. We had sex, and just like always, I left him after. I reached out, trying to touch his cheek, but he pulled back immediately. “Tell me why you’re here,” he said coldly, his voice flat and closed off.
“I did something that Ace might never forgive me for, but I had no choice.” I paused before continuing. “First, I planted a tracking device under his car and smashed the car into pieces. He found out about that.”
His eyes widened slightly before narrowing in anger. “Are you crazy? I know that man is your husband, but he’s still the freaking Alpha.” He stepped closer. “He’s been too soft on you, and you keep taking that for granted. You better stop before he switches up on you. You’ve already crossed his line too many times, and he’s been holding back.”
“That’s not all. I confronted Charlotte and he found out about that too. He’s threatening to send me divorce papers, and I had to threaten him back, telling him I would expose him if he does.” I narrowed my eyes. “I’m-

“Have you gone crazy?” he snapped, fear suddenly clinging to his eyes. “You confronted Charlotte and then went ahead to threaten Ace? Mind you, him saying he will send you divorce papers isn’t a threat, he means every word and he’s going to do it.”
My eyes narrowed at his last words, but I ignored it. “Yes, I confronted Charlotte.” I studied his face. “Why do you look so scared?”
“First,” he said sharply, “going to Charlotte was a stupid move. I only told you about her because you asked. I never expected you to actually go and threaten her.”
“What did you expect?” I shot back. “That I sit around and watch her take my man away from me?” My voice hardened. “I will ruin her career and her reputation if that’s what it takes.”
“And how did that go for you? You were expecting to see your little scaredy cat sister running away in fright at your presence?” he asked, letting out a low laugh, the kind that dripped with mockery. He shook his head, laughing again, like he was enjoying every second of it. My ears rang with anger. He was right. I had expected to see my little scaredy–cat sister shrink back at the sight of me. Even without her memories, I thought my presence alone would be enough. I wanted my words to chase her away, to scare her into running. But I was wrong. Charlotte had grown in ways I didn’t expect. She didn’t even flinch when I warned her that I would expose her for sleeping with my mate.
“She has changed,” I said tightly, “but that doesn’t mean she’s untouchable. I want her gone for good.”
“That’s going to be very hard to achieve,” he replied flatly. “She is untouchable.” He stepped closer, his voice lowering. “Do you know how many lives depend on her? Even our Alpha needs her to stay alive. Millions of lives she’s saved, directly or indirectly, and they all have her back. They’re loyal to her. Wolves, Alphas, witches. My heart squeezed so hard I thought I was going to die. How did my little sister gain this much respect, love, security, and loyalty in just six years? She was supposed to be dead. She should have died that night. Maybe something is backing her, because there’s no way she survived that accident on her own. I made sure I hit her before pushing her off the cliff with my car. He continued, his voice tense. “For your sake, you better think twice before you do anything that will end you. And
you threatened Ace?” He let out a shaky breath. “That’s a death wish. That has got to be the worst mistake you’ve ever made in your life. You don’t threaten Ace Virel.” He stepped back, his body trembling.
“Why are you so scared?” I asked, narrowing my eyes. “He isn’t going to do anything that will jeopardize his Alpha title. He won’t risk that.” A slow smile touched my lips. “I have him exactly where I want him.”
He shook his head in disbelief at my actions. “You truly believe that? You truly think you have that man where you want him? He is a monster, he doesn’t bow to people.”
“Well he has to if he intends to keep his position, he’s just going to do what is necessary. He’ll mark me and get me pregnant on the night of the festival, I want nothing less than that.”
