Dominic let out a low chuckle, but there was no humor in it. “My words?” His gaze darkened as he turned his attention back to me. “Forgive me, James, but I never expected my wife to be so eager to move on.”
I stiffened.

The words felt like a slap to the face, a cruel reminder of the title I still held but never truly possessed.
Anger simmered beneath my skin, mixing with the lingering fear. How dare he?
But before I could say anything, James spoke first.
“Move on?” James scoffed, shaking his head in disbelief. “Are you serious, Dominic? Olivia is like my sister. We grew up together. I’ve never seen her as anything but family.”
Dominic’s smirk deepened, his gaze turning condescending. ‘Family?” he repeated mockingly. “Last I checked, you’re not related by blood. So tell me, James–what exactly does that make you?”
The insinuation in his voice made my stomach churn.

I felt my blood boil, my anger overtaking any lingering fear. I shot up from my seat, meeting his furious gaze bead–on.
“My place?” I echoed, my voice laced with venom. “Tell me, Alpha, what exactly is my place?” I took a step closer, my body trembling with barely contained rage. ‘Is it in the dungeon? Chained and beaten like a criminal? Is it being humiliated while you flaunt Evelyn in my face? Or is it suffering for a crime I never committed?”
His jaw tightened, but I wasn’t done.
“You have the audacity to question my loyalty when you were the one who betrayed me? You dare accuse me while you stand here defending her?” I let out a bitter laugh, shaking my head. “You’re nothing but a hypocrite, Dominic.”

I barely heard him over the sharp waves of pain. My breath hitched, and instinctively cradled my stomach.

I forced myself to take deep, steady breaths.
