After breakfast, Eliana carried out the home–cooked meals Sarah had prepared for Irene and headed out.
Everyone knew Irene could easily afford her own meals as a lawyer, but Sarah understood that what Irene really needed was love.
Her bold, easygoing manner was just a shield for her sensitive heart.
So after thinking it over, Sarah didn’t get her anything fancy, just some ho
homemade comfort food.
It was her way of thanking Irene for bringing Eliana home yesterday and for looking after her all these years.
Over the years, Eliana had been so caught up with Logan that she barely had time for her family. Sometimes, it was actually more helpful to call Irene than Eliana herself.
It didn’t happen often, but Sarah never forgot a single one of those moments.
Now, seeing her daughter and Irene patch things up, Sarah and Wesley honestly happier than anyone else.
Were
As Eliana drove out, she glanced at the passenger seat, where every dish was packed with her mom’s heavy, heartfelt love. Her nose stung with emotion.
There were so many things she understood deep down, but her parents and Irene never said a word. All because they loved her. And she just kept acting clueless, pretending she didn’t know anything.
From now on, she was going to love them back with everything she had.
With that thought, Eliana let out a slow breath and reached for her phone, dialing Irene’s number.
The call connected almost instantly, and just hearing Irene’s voice made Eliana’s mood lift in a heartbeat.
“Yo, Ms. Perry, you at the office yet?” Eliana teased.
“Eliana, can you act normal for once? The way you’re talking is making me nervous,” Irene said, sounding serious.
Eliana laughed, “Sarah made you a bunch of homemade food and insisted I bring it over myself. If you’re already there, I’ll drop it off right now.”
“Sarah made it for me? Then hurry up and bring it over. I’m already at the office waiting for you,” Irene said, sounding
excited.
Hearing Irene’s words, Eliana couldn’t help but smile, “Got it, I’ll bring it Over right now.”
After hanging up, Eliana didn’t waste any time and drove straight to Irene’s office.
She parked and grabbed the bag of food, then made a beeline for Irene’s office.
As soon as Irene saw Eliana, she rushed over and
atched the big bag of food from Eliana’s hands.
She walked over to a nearby table, set the bag down, and unpacked the containers one after another.
Looking at all the food, Irene’s eyes sparkled with pure joy, as if she’d just stumbled upon a hidden treasure.
Irene exclaimed, “Wow, Sarah totally gets me! She made all my favorites. Literally everything is something I love!
“No way, Eliana. I have to buy
mething for your parents later, and you’re coming with me.”

Eliana watched her, nose stinging with emotion, but couldn’t help joking, “Forget it, you’re about to make me look bad. You’re practically the model daughter now, and I’m gonna look like the slacker.
“Anyway, my mom said you should come over for dinner more often when you get the chance. Stop eating takeout all the time because it’s not healthy.
“If you’re free tonight, just come over and have dinner with us,” Eliana suggested.
Irene was already digging into a container, but she shook her head at Eliana’s offer. “I’d love to, but you know how my job is, never a set schedule. I wouldn’t want to keep your folks waiting on me.
“Seriously, if I want to come over for dinner, I’ll give you a heads up. So don’t wait for me most nights.”
Eliana took a deep breath, feeling a little disappointed, but still nodded.
Watching Irene wolf down her food, Eliana couldn’t help but frown. “Let me guess, you skipped breakfast again, didn’t you?
“Irene, seriously, how many times do I have to tell you? I get that you’re all about the grind, but can you please just look after yourself a little?
“Always starving yourself and then stuffing your face like this. Aren’t you worried you’ll wreck your stomach?”
Irene, mouth still full, looked up at Eliana. “So, what I’m hearing is: why don’t you just be my personal lunch delivery guy from now on?”
Eliana couldn’t help but laugh, half exasperated, half amused, “Wow, you really don’t hold back when it comes to bossing me around, do you?”
“So, is that a yes or a no?” Irene pressed.
Eliana nodded. “Of course, I will.
“Let’s just skip breakfast at home tomorrow. I’ll bring it over, and we’ll eat together.”
As soon as Eliana said that, Irene puckered up her greasy lips, ready to plant a big kiss on her.
“Eliana, I knew you were the best! How are you so amazing?” Irene said.
Eliana quickly threw up her hand to block Irene’s attempt at a greasy kiss, then asked, testing the waters, “So, my mom said you were the one who got me home last night?”
Irene grinned wickedly. “Looks like somebody really blacked out last night, huh?”
Eliana cleared her throat, a little embarrassed. “Honestly, I don’t remember a thing. Was it Nathan who called you?
“Did I totally embarrass myself after I got drunk? I didn’t go all crazy or anything, did I?”
Eliana’s voice was soft and hesitant, clearly nervous as she spoke
To be honest, Eliana wasn’t sure she could trust herself anymore.
She thought, ‘My marriage had really worn me down these past few years. When someone has been pushed that far, who knows what they might do if they ever lost control?‘
‘Especially after a few drinks.
“Oh, it was more than just you being a little tipsy. Do you have any idea what you two were up to when I walked in?” Irene teased.

The moment she asked, flashes of last night’s images popped into her mind, and she couldn’t help but look uneasy.
‘Surely it wasn’t all real, right? Did I really get that drunk and do something totally embarrassing?‘ Eliana thought.
Irene was just teasing at first, but when she saw Eliana’s face go pale, her eyes narrowed with suspicion. “I was just messing with you, but with that reaction, Eliana, I’m starting to think something really did go down before I showed huh?”
up,
“Of course not!” Eliana huffed, cheeks burning with embarrassment. “You’re just messing with me, Irene!”
Saying that, Eliana reached out to pinch her, and the two of them just cracked up together.
They kept goofing off until Eliana’s phone rang, and that finally got them to stop laughing.
It had been forever since Eliana laughed this hard; so she was in a genuinely good mood. When she answered the call, her voice was light and cheerful.
But as soon as she heard the voice on the other end, her smile disappeared instantly.
