Marina and Daron got back to the villa together. Just as the driver pulled up to the entrance, Daron’s phone started ringing.
Daron checked his phone and found it was a call from the Zamora family’s old mansion.
Marina noticed the caller ID, so she slipped out of the car and waited for Daron nearby.
Daron answered the call and put the phone to his ear. Harris’s commanding voice came through right away.
“Get back home, now,” Harris ordered.
With that, he hung up.
Daron frowned slightly and turned to Marina, who was waiting outside the car.
Marina understood immediately and said, “Don’t worry about me, go ahead.”
Daron watched her as she turned to leave and said quietly, “You should get some rest. I might be back late.”
Marina paused, turned to look at him, and saw the slight frown on his face. She gave a gentle nod.
“Okay,” she replied.
After what happened with Joyce at the golf course today, the Milner Family would definitely come looking for the Zamora family.
With how close the two families were now, Harris would definitely give Daron a piece of his mind.
Marina let out a quiet sigh, listening to the sound of Daron’s car pulling away. She couldn’t help but glance back, wondering if she had just caused trouble for Daron.
But since nobody knew about her and Daron yet, and she was the one who swung the club at Joyce, even if Harris was really upset, he probably wouldn’t give Daron too much trouble over it.
The worst he could do is try to keep Daron away from her.
But now that they were already married, what could he really do to keep them apart?
Marina let out a sigh of relief, feeling the tension fade. She turned away and headed inside the villa.
It was just a small hiccup. Daron would take care of it. She didn’t need to waste her energy worrying about it.
When Daron walked into home, Leo and Verena were just coming out of the living room.
Verena was dressed in a suit that matched Leo’s color scheme. When she saw Daron enter, she stepped aside with a taint smile and greeted him.
“Daron, you’re back?” she said.
Daron didn’t even spare Verena a glance. His eyes went straight to Leo.
“Do you just bring anyone into our house now?” he asked, his tone sharp.

Leo frowned, his voice serious. “Daron, I’ve told you before. Verena’s not a stranger to this family.”

Daron shot back with a sarcastic smile. “Not a stranger, huh? So what, she’s your wife now? Did you two tie the knot?”
Leo’s eyes narrowed, a flash of irritation crossing his face as he looked at Daron.
“At my age, getting officially married doesn’t really matter anymore,” he said in a low voice.
“Since you brought it up, I’ll just say it straight. You need to get married. I’ve already spoken to Joyce, and I think you two are a perfect match. The Zamora Group’s annual celebration is the day after tomorrow, so we’ll announce your engagement then.”
Daron’s eyes darkened, his gaze sharp and cold as he stared at Leo.
“Did Grandfather agree to this?” Daron demanded.
“Even if he did, it’s not happening unless the Milner Family gives the green light,” Leo shot back.
“You don’t get to call the shots about my marriage,” Daron said.
Leo’s face darkened, his fists clenched at his sides as he glared at Daron.
“I’m your father! Why shouldn’t I be the one to decide who you marry?
“This is how the Zamora family has always done things. When the elders arrange a marriage, it’s for your career and for the future of our family,” Leo said.
“You think you can defy that?” Leo scoffed.
Daron’s deep, dark eyes fixed on Leo, his face unreadable. A cold, mocking smirk tugged at his lips, like he was openly scoffing at Leo’s powerlessness.
“How would you know I can’t fight back if I never even try? My career, and the future of the Zamora Group, doesn’t need to survive by feeding off some woman’s family.”
“Dad, I’m not like you. Just because you couldn’t do it doesn’t mean I can’t.
“I won’t let what happened to my mother happen again,” Daron said, his voice low and resolute.
Leo’s expression twisted with anger.
“You….” Leo sputtered, too furious to finish.
Daron shot him one last cold look, then walked off without waiting for Leo to finish.
Leo stood frozen, staring after Daron as he walked away, his brows tightly knit and his face twisted with complicated
emotions.
Verena noticed how Leo’s chest was heaving with anger–Daron’s words had clearly hit a nerve. She placed a calming hand on his chest, trying to soothe him.
“Leo, why are you getting upset with your son? You know what Daron’s like–he can’t stand anyone interfering in his business. If he was actually interested in Joyce, he would’ve locked it down ages ago,” Verena said softly, trying to calm him.
Leo shook off Verena’s hand and snorted coldly.

“If I couldn’t make it happen back then, I don’t believe that brat can do any better,” Leo scoffed.

“If he really dares to defy the arrangements made by the elders and the Zamora clan, does he actually think he can hold his position at the top?” Leo sneered.
With that, Leo strode off.
Verena quickly caught up to him, her voice gentle as she spoke.
“You know how it is–the Zamora family’s barely had any sons these past years. By the time Daron came along, there were only a few left, and the rest are all busy with their own lives and businesses. Who’s really going to challenge him for the top spot?” Verena said.
“Even if the other branches wanted to make a move, they just don’t have what it takes. They’re happy to pocket their yearly dividends–nobody’s stupid enough to mess with Daron, or worse, get on Harris’s bad side,” Verena added.
Leo let out a cold snort, his voice edged with anger.
“Those other branches might be too scared to cross him, but I’m not. You saw how Harris acted just now–he’s not so against Victor getting into the family records anymore, didn’t you catch that?” Leo said.
“Let Victor step up and prove himself for a while. It’s not like Daron’s the only one the Zamora family can count on,” Leo added.
Verena couldn’t help but let a smile slip at Leo’s words, but she knew he’d never really go that far with Daron, so she quickly wiped the smile off her face.
“Leo, Victor and I have never wanted to go up against Daron. Victor’s been doing pretty well overseas all these years. He’s fine staying over there. As long as Daron doesn’t go out of his way to make things hard for him, he’s not asking for much anyway,” Verena said softly.
Leo’s expression turned cold at Verena’s words, and he said flatly, “You’re being too sentimental. How can anyone grow without a little competition?
‘Daron’s been arrogant all these years because he’s never had a real rival. I want Victor to finally challenge him.”
Verena pressed her lips together, her voice barely above a whisper.
‘Honestly, I just wish they could share a real brotherly bond,” she murmured.
Leo glanced over at her, catching the sincerity in her eyes, then said in a low, indifferent voice.
‘It’s because you never stand up for yourself or go after what you want that Harris has never really seen you as one of his own all these years,” Leo said.
‘T’ll handle Victor’s future myself. Just stay out of it and don’t mess things up for him,” Leo added.
Verena let out a gentle sigh, then looped her arm around Leo’s and gave him a soft smile.
“Alright,” she said quietly.
“Whatever you decide for Victor, I won’t interfere. Just don’t push him too hard, okay? As long as my son is happy in this world, that’s all I care about,” Verena added.
Leo didn’t say a word, just kept walking.
Verena’s lips curled into a faint smile, a steely glint flickering in her eyes.
