Daron strode into the living room, and the butler of the Zamora family estate quickly approached, speaking in a low voice.
“Mr. Zamora, Mr. Zamora Harris is waiting for you in the study.”
Daron gave a slight nod and headed for the study.
Noticing this, the butler leaned in and whispered a reminder, “Harris isn’t in the best mood right now. Earlier, when Leo. came back, he brought up the issue of adding that woman from outside to the family record in front of him.”
Daron’s eyes darkened a little.
‘Leo hasn’t changed one bit, Daron thought.
“What did Grandpa say?” Daron asked.
The butler lowered his head slightly and whispered, “Harris didn’t say anything this time.”
Leo and Harris had been butting heads over this for years.
Every time Leo showed up at the Zamora family estate, he’d always bring up adding Victor to the family record.
And every single time, Harris would blow up.
It was almost like Leo was doing it on purpose just to annoy Harris, dragging up the same old issue again and again.
“Harris is probably numb to it by now. Leo’s been at this for years,” the butler added quietly.
Daron glanced toward the study.
‘Numb to it? Not really,‘ Daron thought.
Over the years, Daron had caught hints that Harris might finally be starting to give in.
Now that he was getting older, it was only natural for him to want peace and harmony in the family.
So it was only natural he’d start considering Leo’s suggestion. After all, Victor was still his grandson.
Even though Victor wasn’t as close to him as Daron, whom Harris raised himself, there was still that family blood between them.
“Got it,” Daron said.
He headed straight for Harris’s study.
When he reached the door, he raised his hand and knocked.
“Come in,” Harris’s strong, commanding voice called out from inside.
Daron pushed the door open and stepped inside. Harris was standing at his desk, working on his painting with a brush.
When Daron walked in, Harris shot him a look and said gravely. “You’re here?”
Daron nodded, walked over, and stopped by his side.

Harris set down his brush and said in a deep voice, “What’s going on between you and that girl from the Finley family lately?”
Daron wasn’t surprised by the question. He was just about to answer when Harris cut him off.
“Whatever’s going on between you two, keep your distance.
“The marriage arrangement between the Zamora and Finley families is already off. And that girl from the Finleys came here herself to end it,” Harris said firmly.
Daron frowned a little.
“Grandpa, about Marina and me…” Daron began, but was cut off.
Before Daron could get a word in, Harris yanked open a drawer, pulled out a stack of photos, and slapped them down on the
desk.
“I know you’re not into that Joyce. I watched the golf course video today. She’s just not the kind of woman who could ever be the Zamora family’s matriarch,” Harris said.
“These are all daughters from the top families in Vrufield and across the country. They’re smart, well–bred, and totally on your level,” he added.
“Take a look, see if any of them appeal to you. If you find someone you like, I’ll make the arrangements,” Harris said.
Daron barely glanced at the photos before speaking calmly, “Grandpa, I’m not interested in any of them.”
“You don’t have to worry about my marriage. I’ll handle it myself,” he added.
Harris’s eyes flashed with annoyance as he said in a deep voice, “How could I not worry about your marriage? I’ve been stressing over it for twenty years! I raised you myself. Of course I care about everything that happens to you.
“You keep dragging your feet, and now your maternal grandfather’s been calling me up, chewing me out, asking if I even care about you at all.”
“That stubborn old man. Bette’s marriage isn’t even settled, and he’s already blaming me for yours! He’s driving me nuts!”
Daron looked at Harris’s furious expression and said calmly, “If my maternal grandfather calls you about this again, just let him know I’m already married.”
Harris frowned, his voice heavy. “Married? Where’s the wedding? You haven’t even thrown a banquet! How is that a real marriage? You want me to lie about this? That’s just asking me to lose face in front of your grandfather and let him walk all
over me.
Daron kept his cool and said evenly, “We just haven’t had the wedding banquet yet, but as far as the law’s concerned. I’m already married. Got the paperwork right here.”
While he spoke, Daron pulled the marriage certificate from his suit pocket, set it on Harris’s desk, and pushed it across
“This is my marriage certificate,” he said.
Harris stared at the two marriage certificates Daron slid across the desk, his expression shifting. He picked them up, and when he saw the photos of Marina and Daron inside, his hand trembled slightly.
“You and her… you actually got married?” Harris asked.
Daron nodded.

“Yes, Grandpa,” he replied.

“We may have gotten the marriage certificate, but Marina and I agreed to keep it private for now. Grandpa, you’re the person I’m closest to, so I chose to tell you myself,” Daron said.
Harris slammed the marriage certificates back down on the desk, his expression turning cold and authoritative.
“Chose to tell me, huh?” Harris snorted.
“If I hadn’t called you back here today, you wouldn’t have told me at all.
“Getting married is a huge deal, and you couldn’t even bother to let me know? And you call this ‘telling‘ me?” he snapped.
Daron saw the crease Harris had just slammed into the marriage certificate, his brows furrowing a little. He picked it up and tried to smooth it out with his thumb.
Harris watched Daron’s careful movements, looking even more displeased.
“Did you forget how that girl came to the Zamora house and insisted on breaking off the engagement? How she put you on the spot in front of everyone?” Harris snapped.
“She walked all over our family’s reputation that day. Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten?” he pressed.
Daron looked up at Harris, his voice steady. “Grandpa, that was a long time ago. Can we just let it go? She was young back then, just wanted her own freedom, so she did what she thought was right.”
“Bullshit!” Harris snapped. “The Finley family only sees us as a stepping stone to get ahead.”
“You know exactly what the Finleys are going through right now. That girl only picked you because you’re the one who can bail her family out.
“Elnora’s already sick. If Marina wants to keep the Finley family afloat, she needs someone even more powerful to lean on.
“So Elnora went to the Campbell family, and Marina came to you! She’s just trying to leech off you. Can’t you see that?” he snapped.
Harris watched as Daron carefully smoothed out the crease in the marriage certificate, then gently slipped it back into his suit pocket. His face darkened with displeasure.
Just two worthless marriage certificates. What’s he so obsessed with? Marina is just using him as a walking ATM, he fumed.
‘Let’s see if she can keep acting so calm once Daron isn’t her personal cash machine anymore, Harris thought.
