After Daron stepped out of Harris’s study, he spotted Hayley sitting on the couch in the living room, sipping her coffee. He hadn’t even noticed when she’d come downstairs.
“From the way Harris was yelling, you really got him worked up.
“He’s getting older now, so you should try not to clash with him,” she said.
When she saw Daron, she set her cup down, her tone gentle and neutral, showing no emotion.
Daron stopped in his tracks and gave a slight nod.
‘I know, Aunt Hayley,” he replied.
Hayley just murmured, “Mm.”
Daron took a seat on the couch opposite her and said quietly, “I’m married now, Aunt Hayley.”
Hayley frowned, giving Daron a long, searching look before finally speaking.
You got married?” she asked.
‘So that’s what you and Harris were fighting about?”
Daron nodded.
Hayley was much calmer than Harris. She sat quietly for a while before finally speaking in a gentle tone.
Since you chose her yourself, make sure you treat her right. You’ll be bringing her to the family dinner tomorrow, right?” she asked.
Daron nodded. “Yes.”
Hayley murmured, “In that case, I’ll have to pick out a welcome gift for her first thing tomorrow morning.”
Thank you, Aunt Hayley,” Daron said.
Hayley picked up her cup, her voice steady and calm.
‘No need to be so polite. One way or another, I’m basically her mother–in–law now. Taking care of these things is just what I should do as family,” she said.
‘It’s getting late. You should head home,” she added.
As she spoke, she took a small sip of her coffee. Maybe the taste was a bit too strong, or just too bitter for her liking, and she found herself frowning without meaning to.
Daron stood up from the couch, and just before leaving, he spoke in a low voice.
“Grandpa said he wants to bring Victor back home to the Zamora family. Did you know about this, Aunt Hayley?” he asked.
Hayley’s hand trembled slightly as she held her cup. She looked up at Daron, and for the first time, a flicker of emotion broke through her usual calm. After a few seconds, she set the cup back down on the table.

“Harris hasn’t discussed it with me yet,” she said.
“Since he’s already made up his mind, I’ll just respect his decision,” she added.
Daron’s brows drew together tightly, and he spoke in a low, serious voice.
“I’ll let the Blanchard family know about this. I’ll make sure things are set right for you,” he said.

Hayley gave a soft smile and said quietly, “Honestly, fairness doesn’t mean much to me. I never had any feelings for your father. I only married into the Zamora family because you were still a child, and I wanted to repay your grandfather’s kindness.”
For her, simply following whatever arrangements the Zamora family made and having a stable life now was enough.
“Alright, you should get going. I’m heading upstairs to get some rest,” Hayley said.
After saying that, Hayley got up from the couch and made her way upstairs.
After she went upstairs, Harris stepped out of his study.
Propping himself up with his cane, Harris stood at the end of the hallway. Spotting Daron still lingering, he said in a low, stern voice, “Thinking of staying the night here?”
Daron fixed Harris with a deep, unreadable gaze for a long moment before finally speaking in a low voice, “No. I’m heading back to my own place.”
Harris gave a nod and headed for his room. Before going in, he said in a low voice to the butler, “Show him out.”
The butler quickly replied respectfully, “Yes, sir.”
Daron glanced at Harris’s retreating figure as he went into his room, then turned and walked away.
The butler followed close behind Daron. He’d watched him grow up, and after seeing the tension between Daron and Harris, he couldn’t help but try to talk some sense into him.
“Mr. Daron, at a time like this, butting heads with Mr. Harris just isn’t worth it,” the butler said.
“Mr. Harris is soft–hearted. If you just swallow your pride for a bit, things will smooth over. Don’t let anyone else use this moment to get in between you two,” he added.
Daron kept his eyes fixed straight ahead, not slowing down for a second. Hearing the butler, he asked.
“Did Leo bring Verena over for dinner here today?” he asked..
The butler looked a bit surprised by the question, but he nodded.
“Yes, they had dinner here,” he said.
Daron asked, “At the same table as Aunt Hayley?”
The butler paused for a moment, then nodded.
“Yes, they were at the same table,” he replied.
Daron scoffed coldly.

“Looks like Grandpa’s really gone senile,” he said.
All these years, Leo’s been parading Verena around like they’re the real deal, and people have almost forgotten there’s still a lady of the Zamora family.
The servants had gotten so used to seeing Leo and Verena together that now, even having them sit at the same dinner table didn’t raise any eyebrows.
It was only after Daron asked that the butler realized just how inappropriate it was for Harris to have Verena and Hayley sitting together at the dinner table.
“Mr. Leo hadn’t been home in ages, and when he suddenly wanted to stay for dinner, Mr. Harris was just so happy to see his son that he didn’t think about how awkward it would be. That’s why Hayley ended up getting embarrassed,” the butler explained.
“And Leo didn’t even talk to Verena at all today,” he added.
Hayley had been married into the Zamora family for over twenty years, never living as husband and wife with Leo. She kept the household running smoothly, showing respect to those above and kindness to those below.
Just as her family intended when they married her into the Zamora family, all these years she’d devoted herself to looking after young Daron, never wanting anything else.
Not once did she ever voice a complaint about Leo and Verena flaunting their relationship.
Never did she seek any privileges for herself as Leo’s wife.
She never once thought about having kids just to secure her position. A few years back, she sponsored a poor girl’s education, and when the girl’s parents died in a car accident, Harris had Hayley take her in as her own.
Grateful for everything Hayley had done, Harris gave her 2% of the Zamora Group’s shares to make sure she’d be taken care of.
Even though it was only 2%, those were Zamora Group shares, more than enough to guarantee Hayley a comfortable life for
years to come.
If Victor got listed as Hayley’s son in the Zamora family records, he’d have the right to inherit those 2% shares.
The butler knew exactly what was at stake, which was why he warned Daron not to butt heads with Harris right now.
If Harris really did make Victor officially Hayley’s child, Victor would be scoring big time.
“Mr. Daron, whatever happens, don’t get into it with Mr. Harris at the family dinner tomorrow,” the butler urged
Daron answered coolly, “There’s nothing left for me to argue about with him. If he’s already made up his mind, then as long as it keeps him happy, that’s good enough for me.”
With that, Daron headed out the front door of the Zamora house.
The driver was waiting out front, and as soon as he spotted Daron, he popped the door open for him.
Daron ducked into the car.
The butler watched Daron leave, and seeing how unfazed he was about Victor being added to the Zamora family registry, could only let out a helpless sigh.
If Daron himself wasn’t worried, then as a mere servant, no matter how anxious he got, there was nothing he could do about
