Chapter 140
As soon as Nathan finished speaking. Eliana stomped down hard on his foot
“Our Nathan yelped in pain.
Vliana hadn’t expected him to say that on purpose. She quickly turned and clapped a hand over his mouth.
But it was already too late, Sarah, who was outside, had heard everything loud and clear. She called out, “What’s going on? Eliana, are you okay?
Mom, I’m fine. I just addentally stepped on his foot, Eliana said, shooting Nathan a sharp, threatening look.
Her jare said it all if he dared say one wrong word in front of her parents, she’d tear him apart.
Sexing, how lile she’d changed in ten years, and how she was only ever this unfiltered and unguarded with him, Nathan felt a warmth in his heart he couldn’t quite describe.
He leaned in, looking at her intently, feeling her hand over his mouth. With a mischievous grin, he pressed a kiss to her palm.
“You” Eliana quickly pulled her hand away, her blush deepening
She had no idea why, but that kiss on her palm felt even more intimate and teasing than any of their previous kisses.
Eliana bit her lip, hearing footsteps getting closer. She didn’t dare keep teasing Nathan any longer, so she quickly turned and hurried to the door, opening it.
Seeing Eliana rush out, Sarah paused for a moment, then seemed to catch on. She gave Nathan a knowing smile, then looked down at her daughter, who was clinging to her arm.
Eliana pulled her along for a few steps before Sarah finally let out a soft laugh.
She thought, At first, it was a bit too fast for Eliana to get together with Nathan just after splitting up with Logan.
‘But once I found out that Eliana and Logan had pretty much lived separate lives for six years, and that Nathan and Eliana were high school classmates. And Nathan had a crush on her even back then. I figured it all added up.
Honestly, all those years Eliana was married to Logan, I had never seen her show that side of herself.
‘After the wedding, whenever Eliana came home, she always had a gloomy face, and her mood was even worse.
Whenever I tried asking about her life with the Eliot family or how Logan treated her, Eliana would either dodge the question or head straight to her room.
“We could always sense that Eliana was never truly happy with Logan.
It wasn’t until Eliana insisted on the divorce that I realized just how out of line Logan had really been.
Now, seeing Eliana all shy and blushing. I’m honestly really happy for her.
“This is what being in love should look like.
Looking back, I knew we were wrong. We shouldn’t have clung to those old traditions and forced Eliana into a marriage with someone she didn’t love, and who didn’t love her back.

Chapter 140
Back then, the older folks always believed you could grow into love, and that most couples just muddled through life together.
‘But who ever really asked themselves how much of that lifetime was actually happy?
‘Most of those marriages only lasted because women kept sacrificing and settling.
‘Is it really worth it, trading a whole lifetime of misery to keep up the appearance of growing old together?”
It wasn’t until this moment, when Sarah could genuinely see the happiness and joy radiating from her daughter, that she realized how pointless it was to settle for less.
But hearing her mom laugh, Eliana’s cheeks burned even hotter. She couldn’t help but ask, “Mom, what are you laughing a
Sarah smiled, “Oh, it’s nothing. I’m just so glad to see you’re back to full health. You look great, and it makes me happy.”
She added, “Honestly, you should really thank Nathan for that. The doctor told me he had taken care of you like no one el ever had. In all his years, he said he’s never seen anyone so patient and attentive.”
“Nathan really is such a good guy,” Sarah added.
As Sarah spoke, Eliana had already pulled her downstairs.
Wesley heard it all, loud and clear.
He jumped in right away, “Exactly! Nathan really is a stand–up guy. Nathan, I really have to thank you this time. How about having a few drinks with me tonight?”
Nathan was right behind Sarah and Eliana. Hearing Wesley, he nodded without hesitation. “Of course, Wesley. But there’s n need to be so polite with me.
“Taking care of Eliana is something I want to do. Honestly, I’m just lucky she lets me take care of her.”
After years of dealing with Logan’s arrogance and disrespect, Nathan’s words really touched the old couple. They couldn’t help but like Nathan even more.
Eliana, meanwhile, was dying from the mushiness. Her heart practically melted at how sweet and over–the–top Nathan was being.
She thought, ‘Seriously, only Nathan could be this cheeky, dropping lines like that right in front of my parents without batting an eye.’
Eliana thought this as she lowered her head, trying hard to suppress her embarrassment, when she saw Wesley gently nudge her hand and say, “Aren’t you going to thank Nathan?”
“If it weren’t for Nathan this time, who knows what kind of disaster we’d be dealing with? Honestly, calling him. your wouldn’t be an exaggeration,” Wesley said
Nathan hurried to respond politely, but his eyes never left Eliana, burning with unmistakable intensity.
Eliana, flustered by Nathan’s intense gaze, quickly looked away and said, “Dad, he can’t drink. He’s got work to handle. tonight. If he drinks too much, it might mess things up.”
“Is that so? Well, Nathan, take it easy then. Work is more important, Wesley replied, nodding.
lifesaver
Nathan’s smile grew even brighter, but he said, “Wesley, Sarah, Eliana’s just joking. I’m not busy at all. I’ve already wrapped up all my work for today.”

“Since I promised to drink with you, Wesley, of course, I’ll do it properly,” Nathan said.
With that, Nathan didn’t hesitate. He picked up his glass and finished it in one go.
As soon as he set his glass down and glanced her way, Eliana’s nerves went haywire. She just knew Nathan had some mischief up his sleeve, but for the life of her, she couldn’t figure out what he was planning.
It wasn’t until after dinner, when Nathan started putting on his drunk act, and Wesley tried to get him to stay over, that it finally hit Eliana. He’d been waiting for this chance all along.
As Wesley told the servant to help Nathan to the guest room, Eliana was completely exasperated. “Dad, this isn’t a good idea If you suddenly let him stay over, people might talk. It could look bad for him.”
“He’s still not married yet,” she added.
But before she could finish, Nathan suddenly sat up, his eyes locking onto hers. With a deep, sincere voice, he said. “Eliana, you’re the only one I’ll ever marry.”
