Hearing what Zara said, Hayley could only let out a soft laugh.
“You’re the only one who thinks your brother’s so great.”
Zara’s sweet voice piped up again. “Mommy’s awesome too.”
Marina and Bette stood at the door, listening to the laughter and chatter inside.
Bette’s expression barely changed as she shot Marina a sideways glance.
Marina happened to look up at her too and said softly, “Maybe we should head back.”
“Ms. Blanchard, it seems like…”
Bette didn’t wait for Marina to finish and knocked on the door.
The voices inside came to an abrupt halt.
Hayley opened the door, and when she saw Marina and Bette standing there, her smile faded noticeably.
“Oh, you two are here?”
Bette nodded, a gentle smile on her face as she asked quietly, “Is Zara okay?”
Hayley shook her head and answered softly, “She’s fine.”

Bette murmured an acknowledgment, stepped into the hospital room, shot a quick glance at Daron sitting in the chair, then walked over to Zara’s bedside and picked up the medical report to check it.
‘Glad you’re okay. That commotion earlier really freaked me out,” she said.
Zara bit her lip nervously as she listened to Bette. She always felt more relaxed around Daron than she did with Bette.
“Sorry for scaring you, Bette, Ms. Finley.”
Bette let out a soft laugh. “I’m not mad at you, so there’s really no need to apologize.”
“We’re sisters, aren’t we? Why do you always get so nervous around me? Anyone watching would think I’m picking on you
Zara hesitated, then just lowered her head and stayed quiet.
Hayley frowned a little, clearly annoyed by Bette’s words, but she held back and didn’t want to start anything with her
‘Bette, Zara’s just a bit timid. She can’t always tell if you’re joking or actually upset, that’s why she gets so nervous, Hayley explained.
Bette nodded, then walked over to Daron and fixed her gaze on his face.
Daron frowned, staring at Bette, her features almost a mirror of his own, and said in a low voice, “What are you doing?
Bette just smiled and said softly, “Nothing, really, I just find it funny that we look so much alike, but Zara’s not scared of you at all. She’s only nervous around ine. Maybe it’s just a guy girl thing?”

Bette’s words clearly annoyed Daron. His face darkened, and he said coldly, “Seriously, stop messing around.”
After he finished. Daron looked over at Marina, who was standing nearby.
Marina wore a faint smile, clearly not fazed at all by Bette’s words.
When she caught Daron’s gaze, her smile widened a bit, like she was telling him, ‘I’m not bothered by any of this.
Daron exhaled slowly, but the tension still lingered in his chest.
Bette grabbed Daron by the arm and pulled him to his feet, saying in a calm voice, “Your wife hurt her ankle when she came out earlier. You should go get it looked at.”
As she spoke, Bette plopped herself down in the seat Daron had just vacated.
Daron’s face grew serious as he looked at Marina, concern clear in his dark eyes.
He walked over to her and gently took her hand.
“Did you hurt yourself just now?” he asked.
Marina pressed her lips together, quietly slipped her hand out of his grasp, and answered softly, “Don’t worry, I’m fine.”
Marina stepped away from Daron and turned her attention to Zara, who was lying in the hospital bed.
When Zara heard that Marina had fallen too, guilt was written all over her face. “I’m sorry, Ms. Finley. I made you fall too.”
Marina thought back to that moment when Zara had met her gaze as Daron carried her out of the side courtyard. She couldn’t help but smile a little.
“It’s fine, really. But you got hurt pretty badly, and gave us all a scare. You should be more careful next time, okay? Things can get dangerous fast.”
Zara still looked guilty, clearly missing Marina’s subtle hint. She just nodded and replied in a gentle voice, “I was just too careless. Sorry for making everyone worry.”
Zara glanced up at Daron, catching the hint of annoyance on his face as he looked at Marina. Then she turned to Marina.
“Ms. Finley, you really should get yourself checked out. Can’t you see how worried my brother is?”
Marina just smiled calmly, not bothered at all, and didn’t respond to Zara.
Honestly, she couldn’t see any real concern from Daron.
His sour mood had nothing to do with her getting hurt. It was all because she’d pulled her hand away and brushed off his
concern.
He was unhappy purely because she had ignored him.
In that moment, there was no way she could fake being the doting wife with Daron
But now that she’d cooled off, she met Daron’s eyes and said quietly, “Let’s go get it checked out then”
Her voice was steady, totally flat, not a hint of emotion.
Daron knit his brows, staring at her.

Marina walked past him and paused at the doorway.

She glanced back, catching Daron still rooted to the spot, his gaze shadowed and hard to read. In a quiet voice, she asked, ‘Aren’t you coming with me?”
Daron looked at her, a flicker of annoyance crossing his eyes, but in the end, he stepped forward and followed after her.
Marina walked purposefully down the hallway, not looking back.
Daron reached out and caught her by the arm, saying quietly but firmly, “The exam room’s downstairs.”
Marina let out a quiet sigh, turned to face Daron, and said in a calm, distant voice, “Mr. Zamora, I know perfectly well whether my foot is hurt or not. No need to get it checked.”
Daron’s brows drew together as he listened to her speak in that polite, distant tone.
He just stared at Marina, waiting for her to say more.
Marina met his eyes, her tone cool and collected.
‘Mr. Zamora, I know you married me with an agenda. And I married you to secure a better future for the Finley Group.”
‘Since we both bring something to the table, this is a partnership.”
‘So next time, please keep your partner’s feelings in mind. If you ever make other arrangements, just give me a heads–up so I can prepare to step away. No need for things to get awkward for either of us.“.
With that, Marina turned to leave, not waiting for Daron to respond.
Daron frowned, grabbed her hand, and said in a low, serious voice, “I failed to notice you fell right away. As your husband, I should’ve done better today. And I don’t want to hear you mention leaving ever again.”
Just keep your head down, and your family’s future will be secure.”
‘I don’t need you getting involved or drawing trouble to yourself. I’ll handle everything with the Zamora family. Just hold onto your spot as the young mistress of the Zamora family.”
When Marina didn’t react, Daron pulled her back hard into his arms, his voice low and stern.
‘Did you hear me? Hmm?” he pressed.
