Matthew slammed his hand on the table, his face clouded as he glared at Marina.

“You’ve only been married into the Zamora family for a few days, and you already dare to show such disrespect to your elders? You…”
Before Matthew could finish, Daron interrupted him calmly. “Uncle Matthew, I don’t see anything wrong with Marina making you that cup of herbal coffee.”
“Looks like you’re really fired up. Maybe you do need to chill out a little.”
As Daron spoke, Matthew’s face fell. He had to bite back the rest of his words.
He shot a glare at Marina, but she didn’t even spare him a glance. Instead, she calmly started making coffee for the others, leaving him fuming with nowhere to vent his anger.
The rest of the Zamora family could see how protective Daron was of Marina, so they didn’t make things too difficult for
her.
By the time they got back to the villa from the Zamora family’s main house, it was already late at night.
While Marina was in the bathroom getting ready for bed, Daron took a call. From the way he was talking, it sounded like it was from Hayley. Maybe something was up with Zara.
She glanced over at Daron, then quietly closed the bathroom door.
Daron always showed Hayley so much respect. If she called him now, he’d definitely go.
Marina just felt this sudden, inexplicable annoyance bubbling up inside her.
She sucked in a sharp breath and let the shower spray hit her face, just trying to snap herself out of it.
Half an hour later, she stepped out of the bathroom, feeling like most of her bad mood had been washed away. Now that she was finally relaxed, all she wanted was to fall asleep the moment she hit the bed.
Just as she lay down on the bed, Daron’s voice sounded from behind her.
“You’re going to bed with your hair still wet?”
Her eyes flashed with surprise at his voice. Turning her head, she saw Daron standing in the doorway.
He was wearing slippers, holding a glass of water, just quietly watching her.
Marina spaced out for a moment.
“You didn’t leave?” she asked.
Daron walked into the room and stood by the bed, looking down at her. “Go where?”
Marina pressed her lips together. “Didn’t Hayley call you? I thought you’d already gone.”
Daron looked at her with a serious face, a trace of annoyance in his eyes.
“You really want me to go that badly?” he asked.

POW
Was she only that relaxed because she thought I wasn’t home?‘ Daron wondered to himself.
His expression turned cold.
Marina just pursed her lips and didn’t say a word. Her answer was written all over her face.

Daron’s face stayed cold as he stared at her, but Marina just looked away, pulled back the covers, and lay down on the bed. She mumbled, “I already dried my hair in the bathroom.”
She was so tired she didn’t want to say another word.
Daron watched her lie down, his expression still frosty. Then he reached out and pulled her up from the bed, his voice low and firm.
“Even if you used the hair dryer, your hair’s still damp…”
Marina cut him off with a frown. “Fine, I’ll just go sleep in the other room. We don’t even have the same routines. Sleeping separately might be for the best.”
Without another word, she tossed the covers aside and got up.
Daron’s face went even colder.
He reached out and grabbed her, his expression cold.
Marina just wanted to crash into bed and had zero interest in arguing with Daron. She shook off his hand and headed straight for the next room.
Daron just stood there, not going after her. He listened to the sound of the door closing as Marina disappeared into the next
room.
His brow furrowed, and his deep eyes darkened with gloom.
Marina flopped onto the bed, bone–tired. But after all that drama, sleep just wouldn’t come. She lay there, staring at the ceiling, wide awake.
She had no clue how long she’d been lying there. Her mind just kept spinning, refusing to settle down.
She was starting to wonder if she should go downstairs and grab something to help her sleep.
When suddenly, the door to her room swung open.
Marina quickly closed her eyes, pretending to be asleep.
In the darkness, Daron came over and stood by her bed.
He didn’t make a sound, just stood there, silently staring at her.
What is he doing? Marina thought, feeling awkward.
She had no clue what Daron wanted, but being watched like that in the dark made her feel really uncomfortable.
Just as she was debating whether to open her eyes and say something, she suddenly felt the bed dip beside her.
Daron got onto the bed.

Marina was stunned.
She had no idea what Daron was trying to do now.

While she was still trying to figure it out, Daron reached out, slipped his arm around her waist, and pulled her into his embrace.
He moved so gently, like he was afraid he might disturb her.
Marina kept her eyes tightly shut, giving up on talking to him or even opening her eyes.
The room was especially quiet.
Daron just held her, not making any other move.
Gradually, Marina drifted off to sleep.
She was up at the crack of dawn the next morning.
Today was the Zamora Group’s big anniversary bash, and Daron’s schedule was absolutely packed
As his assistant, there was no way Marina was getting a break today.
When Marina opened her eyes, Daron was nowhere to be seen.
It was as if he had never even been there last night, as if it had all been just a dream.
Marina threw off the covers, got up, and after a quick wash–up, headed straight for the master bedroom.
She could hear the sound of water running in the master bathroom, so she hurried over to the walk–in closet.
When she got to the closet door, she saw it was already open.
Bette was at the clothing rack, straightening a custom–tailored men’s suit. Hearing movement, she glanced sideways at Marina and said coolly, “You’re up?”
‘Mm, Marina replied softly, walking over.
Bette turned her gaze away, adjusting the suit’s collar as she spoke. “You and Daron sleeping in separate rooms?”
When she came in this morning, she saw the side room door was shut, while the master bedroom door was open.
Daron was already up by then, so it was pretty clear they’d had a spat and decided to sleep apart.
Marina nodded. “We just have different habits. Sleeping separately is better so we don’t disturb each other.
Bette wasn’t surprised by Marina’s answer
After all, Marina was the type who’d even sign divorce papers if she had to, so sleeping in separate rooms was hardly a big
deal for her.
Still, Bette hadn’t expected Daron to actually agree to it.
“Wait, Daron’s okay with that?” Bette asked.
Marina hesitated, not really sure how to answer Bette’s question.

After all, Daron did come over and sleep in her bed last night.
So she guessed he didn’t exactly agree, but he didn’t say no, either.

Bette caught the look on Marina’s face and instantly knew how Daron must’ve reacted. She snorted, “Looks like someone finally met their match.”
“He must be about to blow a fuse, huh? No wonder his face was so dark when I saw him this morning.”
There weren’t many people in Daron’s whole life who’d dare treat him like that. He was probably losing his mind, getting played by Marina again and again.
Bette could just imagine Daron, all riled up but trying to keep his cool, and she couldn’t help but laugh at the image.
Marina just listened to Bette laughing beside her, dropping her eyes and keeping quiet.
