Chapter 322
When Daron stepped out, he saw Marina and Bette standing together, chatting about something. They actually looked pretty at ease together, which was a bit unexpected.
As soon as he appeared, the two stopped talking.
Marina’s gaze landed on him first. Noticing he’d already fixed his tie, she quickly looked away,
Bette spoke up at just the right moment.
“The stylist’s here. You should head downstairs and get ready. Everyone’s waiting for you”
Daron nodded, shot Marina a glance, and quietly said, “Go get changed. I’ll be waiting for you downstairs.”
After saying that, he walked into the elevator.
Bette smirked, glanced at the closed elevator doors, and said quietly, “He’s still willing to talk to you after you made him this mad. Last time, I just tried to get on his nerves a little, and he ignored me for days.”
Marina didn’t say anything in response.
‘Is Bette trying to say Daron treats me differently?‘ Marina wondered.
But she didn’t really think so.
People only showed their real feelings to their family.
To him, she was just a partner for now, nothing more.
At any moment, the cooperation could break down and bring everything crashing down.
“I’m going to go change now,” Marina said politely to Bette, then headed into the dressing room.
Bette nodded. “Alright, I’ll have the stylist give you a quick touch–up later.”
Marina replied, “No need, just do it like we always do.”
Publicly, she was just Daron’s assistant. No need to get all dolled up.
After all, she wasn’t the star of the show today.
Bette replied softly, “You should still dress up a little. If your relationship with Daron ever goes public, people will definitely go looking for photos of you two together from today. You know, a woman should always look her best, no matter when or where.”
Marina paused for a moment, then said quietly, “Alright, just a light/makeup then.”
Bette nodded. “Okay, I’ll go downstairs and wait for you there.”
Marina murmured a thank you and slipped into the dressing room.
Bette turned and headed downstairs.
The stylist was already busy styling Daron.
Daron caught sight of Bette in the mirror as she walked over and asked, “So, what were you two talking about?”

Chapter 322
Bette slid into the seat next to him.
“You, of course.”
Daron didn’t bat an eye, Obviously, he already knew what Bette was going to say.
Bette just shrugged and said flatly, “She treats being your wife like it’s just a job.”
Daron replied, “Yeah, I heard that.”
He’d already caught that yesterday at the hospital.
Bette raised an eyebrow and grinned. “She said she doesn’t like staying in one role for too long. If things aren’t going her way, she might just hand in her resignation at any moment.”
Daron’s face visibly darkened.
Bette acted like she didn’t notice and kept going.
“Grandpa actually quite likes Marina. If you ever get fired by her in the future, you might find it hard to explain yourself to Grandpa.”
“If you really want things to go smoothly with her, you’ll have to sort out the whole situation with Aunt Hayley. You want to pay back a favor, but you can’t just get Marina involved in all that mess. Aunt Hayley doesn’t owe her anything,” Bette pointed out.
Daron frowned. “Them being around won’t change things between me and her. If she doesn’t want to deal with them, she doesn’t have to bother.”
Bette replied coolly, “Family’s never that simple, you know?”
“Now that she’s married to you, she’s definitely going to have to deal with Auntie, the people back at the family estate, and even drop by the Blanchards every now and then. There’s no way she can just stay away from all that.”
Daron’s brows drew together. “Are you saying I should just cut off Aunt Hayley because I married Marina? You know that’s not possible.”
Ever since his mother passed away, Hayley moved in with the Zamora family to take care of him. She even gave up having kids of her own, all for him.
Daron knew exactly how much she’d done for him.
To the Blanchards, she was just someone to use, but to Daron Hayley had been there for him for over twenty years.
She might not be his real mother, but she was even more of a mot
mother to him than anyone else ever could be.
Bette was at a loss for words after hearing that from Daron.
Putting herself in Daron’s shoes, she could totally get where he was coming from
But Hayley was one of those people. One couldn’t really call her good, but she wasn’t exactly bad either. And since Daron cared about her, he couldn’t just cut her out though having her around was just exhausting for everyone.
And the first person to get drained would definitely be Daron’s wife.
Bette dropped the subject. When she glanced up at the mirror, she noticed Marina had come downstairs before anyone realized.
“Alright, let me help you with your makeup,” Bette said softly as she stood up.
Chapter 822
Marina post nodded and took the seat Bette had been sitting in
Vette glanced at Marina’s face. Her expression was calm, giving nothing away. Bette had no idea if Marina had caught any of
her conversation with Daron.
But theron was right. No matter who he married, there was no way he could just cut ties with Hayley.
Marrying anyone was out of the question
Pette did exactly as Marina asked, giving her a light makeup look.
Marina’s skin was flawless, so even with just a little makeup, her complexion looked brighter. She didn’t look much different, but she had that glow that caught your eye.
“Want to try a new look?” Bette suggested.
Honestly, Marina could totally be a style icon. She was born for this kind of look.
The suit Bette handed Marina was one of her company’s hottest new releases this year.
On Marina, it looked even better than on the runway models, enough to make people want to buy it on the spot.
Bette couldn’t help but think, ‘If Marina ever gives Daron the boot, maybe I could snatch her up for my own team.
Just the thought made her a little giddy.
Marina shot Bette’s suggestion down without a second thought.
“I’m good like this”
With that, she stood up from her seat.
Daron still wasn’t done getting ready.
After all, he was the main event today. Everything had to be flawless, top to bottom.
Bette stood next to Marina, and the two of them were just making small talk.
Their chat started with Bette joking about taking charge of all Marina’s clothes and accessories from now on, then drifted into Bette griping about Elnora moving to Port City after getting married.
They’d been rivals for years, always squabbling, but never really hurting each other.
They were both an enemy and an ally.
Once Daron was done getting ready, he stood up and shot the two a cool look as they kept chatting.
“Let’s go,” he said..
Bette was still talking away, chatting with Marina as she trailed after Daron out the door.
Marina only replied to Bette every now and then, always calm and courteous.
Bette was on a roll, chatting nonstop. There wasn’t a hint of her old aloofness or pride.
Bette finally stopped chatting and let Marina get to work once they reached the huge conference room at Zamora Group 11Q
