Chapter 155
When Eliana saw that guy walk into the small diner, she was completely taken aback.
‘Irene is so unreliable. I knew that middle–aged dude wasn’t the one,‘ Eliana complained to herself.
This guy looked exactly like the one she’d been chatting with online.
As he walked in, panic flashed across Eliana’s eyes.
Seeing him head straight for her, she got even more nervous.
“You’re my blind date, right?” he said.
Eliana stammered nervously, blurting out, “No, it’s not me. It’s, it’s…”
The guy chuckled. He said, “I didn’t even say what I meant yet. How do you know it’s not you?”
“If it’s not you, how come you know exactly what I mean?” he teased.
He glanced over himself, grinning. “So, am I not your type or something?”
Without waiting for Eliana to say anything, he just ordered two coffees and sat down across from her.

He said, “Since you’re already here, even if I’m not your type, at least stick around and chat a bit. Walking out right away would be kinda rude, wouldn’t it?”
Seeing him just ramble on without caring what she thought, Eliana couldn’t help but frown.
She thought, ‘Irene’s probably already gone to take off her makeup. If he sees the real Irene and starts clinging to her, that’d be a real pain.
Honestly, some people could make one dislike them in just a few sentences.
Honestly, when Eliana first saw him walk in, her initial impression wasn’t bad at all. He actually looked like his photos, didn’t go overboard with filters.
But now, seeing the way he carried himself, it finally dawned on Eliana. She thought, ‘He was so full of himself. So he just used his real photo without a second thought.
The way he cut her off and ordered two coffees without even asking showed he was a total chauvinist, always doing things his way and never letting anyone else get a word in!
Thinking this, Eliana decided just to let him believe she was his date.
She thought, ‘If he kept chasing the wrong person, even if he made a scene at Irene’s office, he’d still be barking up the wrong tree!
When Eliana went silent and just stared at him, the guy’s smugness only got more obvious.
He thought Eliana was finally impressed by him, and his voice was practically dripping with barely concealed pride.
“Not sure if your dad and the others told you about me, he said.
He continued, “I’ve been grinding in Ockgend for years, and now I’ve got my own little company. Money–wise, I’m definitely doing better than you.

“And as for looks, well, you can see for yourself. The girls at my office always say I’m tall and good–looking. Honestly, with a guy like me showing up for a blind date, what’s there to nitpick?”
As he was talking, the two coffees were brought over.
Seeing the coffees set in front of her, Eliana was about to lose it.
Here was a guy who bragged about running his own company and making good money, and not only did he pick a small diner for their date, but he actually ordered the cheapest coffees on the menu.
Before Eliana could hide her feelings, he started talking again. “I come to this small diner all the time. Their coffee is the best. Anything else they add doesn’t have any real taste.”
“Give it a real try. Once you do, you’ll see that only coffee is good,” he said.
With that, he drank his coffee and started enjoying it slowly, really taking his time to savor it.
As he ate, he kept slurping and smacking his lips loudly, like he was judging some gourmet dish.
With his dramatic display, people around them started staring.
Even Eliana could barely stay in her seat.
She definitely hadn’t braced herself enough for this. This guy was just way too bizarre, and her secondhand embarrassment was off the charts.
Seeing Eliana just sitting there, not touching her coffee, he said in an authoritative tone, “Come on, give it a try. Drink it the way I do, and you’ll get what makes the coffee special.”
Eliana stared at the bowl in front of her, hesitated for a moment, and realized she couldn’t do it.
Worried Irene would finish taking off her makeup and come out any second, Eliana didn’t want to waste any more time with this guy.
She just blurted out, “Honestly, I’ve got a ton of problems. I’ve been bragging to my family about my job and salary, but the truth is, I don’t make that much, and I’m not cut out for tough jobs.
‘I just quit, and I’ve only got just over two grand left.”
‘But on my way here, I saw a bag I really liked. It costs twenty grand. Would you buy it for me?” she asked.
‘Didn’t you say you run your own company? You must be loaded, right?” she added.
Eliana said, “Well, looks like the people who set us up actually knew what they were doing. At first, I was worried he’d be just another one of those guys drifting around Ockgend, wasting time.”
She could see right through him. The whole “I own a company” thing was probably just for show.
A guy his age and still single? There’s definitely something off about him.
‘He’s probably only here because Irene’s relatives back home told him she’s got a good job and makes good money, so now he’s shamelessly trying to mooch off her, not even bothering to hide it.
‘Honestly, acting broke is hands down the best way to deal with guys like him, Eliana thought.
Sure enough, as soon as Eliana said that, he got all riled up and said, “What? How could you not have a job? Aren’t you a

lawyer?”

“A lawyer?” Eliana’s eyes widened in surprise, then she lowered her voice. “Hey, keep it down, okay? I’m just being real with you. I mean, I’ve dreamed about being a lawyer. Honestly, I really wish I could.”
She continued, “But you don’t know what my life’s been like, do you? I only said I was a lawyer to make myself look good.
“But it wouldn’t be right to keep lying to you. If things actually work out, you’ll find out the truth soon enough, so I might as well come clean.
“I’m not a lawyer. I’m just a waitress, doing all the grunt work. But that job was way too tough, so when I heard they were trying to fix me up with someone, I just quit.”
“Honestly, I was kinda worried you might be sketchy, but after hearing all this, now I’m not worried at all,” Eliana said.
As she spoke, she boldly linked her arm through his. “So, can you be my provider from now on?”
Eliana played her part so well that even she was starting to buy her own story.
But what Eliana didn’t know was that just as she earnestly linked arms with that guy, Nathan happened to be walking by after picking up his takeout.
Seeing Eliana clinging to some random guy, jealousy hit Nathan like a punch to the gut.
He didn’t even care that he had a client with him. He just turned and strode straight into the shop.
