Christie’s POV
His body, a familiar physique I’d seen constantly collided with mine.
The trolley made a noise, but I was quick to steady it. His scent
already left a lingering trace on my dress.
“Elijah…” His name escaped my lips in an inaudible whisper.
His eyes met mine like they always did whenever he was about to bid
farewell from the castle. “I didn’t know you were around. I was with
the queen. She…”
“Have you seen my mother around?”
His deep, smooth voice cut into my thoughts. He barely said many
words to me. His few words were usually “Have this,” “Goodbye,”
“Good night,” “Thank you.” But he’d progressed to saying six words to
me!
“No. She… the palace has been extremely busy today. She’ll be
arriving late. She went with the other senior maids for palace
shopping.”

“I was wondering why the castle seemed so crowded and busy…” He
muttered under his breath.
I was parched, and he was continuing a conversation with me.
“Yes, coronation is near. All the family of the queen, including the
nobles, are staying over.”
in
His eyes fixed on mine for a long time, and I could swear he glanced
at my lips while I spoke.
“I should stay then.” His lips curved into a small smile. “Mother
always makes me the best meal when I come over, and that’s why I never stop coming.” He looked at my trolley. “Perhaps…”
“Yes!” I said too quickly, understanding what he wanted to say. “I just
finished making the queen’s meal. I could spare some for you.”
I loved the conversation I was having with Elijah. It made my heart
race. How could I tell him I had a big crush on him?
“I didn’t mean that…”
“No, I insist. Just take this as my repayment for all the gifts you’ve
showered on me.”

He nodded in agreement, and I took the trolley, ushering him into the
kitchen with me. Luckily, there were no maids. I had a long talk with
the queen. I was certain time had passed quickly, and this was our
rest time perfect for my privacy with Elijah.
I heated the leftovers immediately, serving him a plate. He sat at the
counter, and I couldn’t help but stare at his hands and tattoos. His
sleeve was rolled up to his biceps as he took the spoon and ate.
“You should cook more often.” He said with his mouth full. “This
tastes good.”
I blushed again, cursing myself for making this too obvious. Did he
know I liked him? All this time he’d given me gifts what were his
intentions? Why did he speak to me today? Was this just a situation
that could never happen again?
If it was, then I needed to live in the moment.
“You flatter me, Elijah. I mean, Knight Elijah.” I added his title,
hoping he didn’t find me rude and offensive.
“You know my name?”
His hand stretched out to me, and I was wondering if I should hold it.

“Everyone knows your name here. You’re Lady Agatha’s son.”
“I know your name too.”
His hand was still stretched out, and his eyes squinted when he didn’t
see me take it. I moved forward, trying to place my hand in his. When
I did, I bowed in respect.
“Christie.” He said, and my heart skipped.
What was this feeling rumbling inside me? It wasn’t just because he’d
called my name. It was his voice, a voice sounding like a familiar
sensual voice that had registered in my head and dreams for a long
time.
The tone of the man who’d taken my virginity at the blood club and kept coming back for me. The man who’d never said a word, and the
only thing I’d recognized were his sounds.
I snapped out of my foolish thoughts. How could I compare Elijah to that person? He was someone new. I shouldn’t attach him to my past.
“I didn’t know you could know my name.”
“Why? I gift you all the time. Do you think there’s no reason for that?”

He continued eating. My brows arched.
“Reason?” I thought he was just being nice or pitying me at least.
He was still holding my hand, and his thumb rubbed it gently. I was feeling warm all over my body. How had we gotten this close? This
seemed unbelievable.
“We should do this again.” He said. “You make me food, and we talk.”
“I would love to, but there won’t be any private moment for us like this. Lady Agatha would kill me if she saw me with you.”
He looked into my eyes for a long time. “Beautiful eyes, Christie.” He
mumbled like it had escaped his mouth.
He jumped from the counter after finishing the food. “I’ll see to it
that we have this private moment again.”
“Thank you, Knight Elijah.” I looked down at his feet.
He raised my chin upward with his fingers, causing my face to meet
his. His other hand was on my shoulder as he pulled me toward him. I
froze, looking at him, but my insides were trembling at this closeness.
His eyes met my lips again, this time staring at them for a very long

time. He leaned forward, and I didn’t know why my eyes closed.
“Your heart is racing.” He said.
I opened my eyes. He was very close to my lips this time. Of course
my heart was racing. It was him, Elijah.
He suddenly pulled back from me, and my heart broke. “I look forward
to seeing you next time, Christie.”
He left without looking back.
My trembling hands pressed against my face, feeling the built–up
sweat. Was that a tease? Did he really want to kiss me? Did he know I
was crushing on him that hard?
I flushed as I sat on the kitchen floor. I wanted this moment to last
forever. I wanted my own love story. I wanted Elijah so badly.
