Chapter 68 Zombified Dana
After missing its target, the zombie lifted its ferocious head, roaring as it locked eyes with Iris and Logan.
Fresh and grotesque, bright red pus and blood dripped from its gaping mouth.
Half its face was gnawed away, the remaining flesh mangled as if crushed flat in a face–first fall, leaving a pulpy, unrecognizable
mess.
White brain matter mixed with black–red fluid oozed down its jaw in thick drops.
Its skull seemed ready to split apart at any moment, jaws hanging loosely in a bloody, horror–film worthy display–made worse by a gaping hole that hollowed out its entire abdomen.
“I’ve seen ugly, but never this ugly,” Iris muttered, her stomach churning.
The brutality of its condition begged the question: what inhuman treatment had it endured in life to end up so broken?
A second glance sparked recognition.
Wait–that was the Earth–type Power metahuman who’d attacked them yesterday, only to be overpowered!

“Iris, it’s the Earth–type metahuman from yesterday—he’s turned zombie,” Logan said, his voice taut with alertness.
The zombie–once Dana–snarled fiercely, faint flickers of hatred cutting through its gray, vacant eyes.
As if clinging to a sliver of past memory, it fixed its gaze on the two enemies before lunging forward with renewed fury.
A thunderous whoosh erupted as Logan unleashed a high–pressure water jet straight for its head.
To his shock, the wall beside him crumbled abruptly, forming a
barrier between him and Dana.
The entire jet slammed into the earthen shield, rendering his
attack useless.
A dark blur surged at him next.
Logan dodged backward in the same breath, launching a powerful kick that sent the zombie tumbling down the stairwell.
Years of top–tier special forces training let his body react faster than his brain–even zombified, Dana couldn’t breach his defenses.
However, before he could regain his footing, the stairs beneath

his feet began to collapse.
Dirt crumbled, steel bars snapped, and Logan’s foot slipped, sending him plummeting downward.
Iris reacted in an instant, grabbing his shoulder and yanking him back to safety with one brute–force pull.
The chaos persisted, though.
Stairs crumbled relentlessly, forcing Iris to hoist Logan onto her shoulders instead of setting him down.
She sprinted upward, each step followed by the cave–in of the steps behind them, large concrete chunks crashing down around them.
Logan watched as the stairwell collapsed floor by floor. Through gaps in the falling debris, he spotted a figure at the very bottom.
“Iris! That Earth–type zombie retained its powers–and they’re stronger now!”
“I know,” Iris grunted, striding toward the rooftop with Logan secured on her shoulders.
Just then, the last step in front of her gave way. She stumbled but recovered instantly, pressing her back to the wall and Bushing upward. Logan, still perched on her shoulder grabbed

the third–floor exit door, switching roles to pull her to safety.
He clung to the closed safety door with one hand, wrapping his legs around Iris‘ waist for leverage. As the rest of the stairs crumbled beneath them, he flipped acrobatically, lifting Iris onto the narrow ledge beside the third–floor door before nimbly joining her.
A deafening crash echoed as the entire stairwell caved in, leaving only exposed, broken steel bars and pitted walls.
Iris and Logan stood pressed against the door, balancing on a ledge barely wide enough for half a foot—one misstep would send them plunging 33 feet into the abyss below.
To make matters worse, zombies lurked behind the locked door.
Seventeen or eighteen undead detected their scent, slamming into the barrier.
Bloody, mangled faces pressed against the glass, mere inches from Iris‘ eyes—an intensely harrowing, heart–stopping sight.
“Iris! That superpowered zombie’s hiding!” Logan scanned frantically, but as an Earth–type Power user, Dana vanished into the rubble effortlessly.
Logan’s Water–type Power was useless here.

Trapped in the enemy’s territory, he couldn’t gain the upper
hand.
They were trapped: a deadly drop below, ravenous zombies behind.
No obvious way out.
Then Iris closed her eyes, her mental power spreading outward like a radar, mapping every detail of the surrounding area in her
mind.
Within her psychic field, Logan glowed deep blue, while the zombies behind them shone pale gray.
She extended her reach downward, and a fuller picture emerged: fifteen or sixteen more zombies on the floor below, and seven or eight wandering aimlessly at the bottom of the collapse.
