That’s just how Jennifer was these days: her memory was fleeting, and she was fully aware only in brief, scattered moments.
She could still recognize who was around her and knew their faces, but most things blurred together.
So when Grace watched Jennifer agree to something only to forget it a moment later, a wave of helplessness washed over her. There was really nothing she could do except sigh and go help her.
Jennifer, let me help you get some rest,” Grace said.
Seeing Jennifer nod, Grace gently took her arm and helped her upstairs.
But as she did that, Grace’s mind raced with calculations.
Right now, the only link between her and Nathan was Jennifer.
Nathan cared deeply for Jennifer and held her in high regard. If Jennifer insisted Grace was her daughter–in–law, Nathan night just yield.
But with Jennifer so out of it, Grace couldn’t rely on her in this state. She needed Jennifer to regain her clarity as quickly as possible, which meant the treatment would have to be intensified.
Meanwhile, downstairs, one of Nathan’s staff got a call from him.
‘Mr. Turner, don’t worry. Jennifer’s fine now. Ms. Ford is helping her upstairs to rest,” she reported.
After hearing Nathan’s instructions, her expression stiffened. “Yes, I understand, Mr. Turner. I’ll be extra cautious with everything, especially her meals.”
Without thinking, her gaze flicked upstairs. “Yes, Mr. Turner. I understand. I’ll watch everything closely.”
Then she confirmed with a nod, “Understood.”
Usually, when Grace was with Jennifer, nobody interfered or poked their noses into their business.
But after that call, she scanned the room, then hurried into the kitchen, grabbed a dose of the tranquilizer, and made her way upstairs.
Early the next morning, Irene woke to a dull ache thumping in her head.
She took a deep breath and stepped out of her room, immediately catching the unmistakable aroma of freshly cooked food,
Surprised, she walked into the dining room and saw a lavish breakfast spread before her
“Whoa, did a kitchen fairy sneak in last night? Where are you, kitchen fairy?” Irene muttered, her thoughts always bouncing ahead of everyone else’s, and no one could keep up.
Hearing that, Eliana couldn’t help but laugh out loud in the kitchen.
“Your kitchen fairy is right here, she said with a grin, handing her a cup of coffee. Eat up. Once you’re done, I’ll take you to Drake Law Firm.”
“Wait, Eliana, why are you here? Did you actually crash at my place last night?” Irene asked, taking the coffee and sipping

carefully.
“What else could it be? You were so wasted last night, I couldn’t just leave you here alone,” Eliana replied.
‘But I didn’t give you a bath or anything, so eat up and go shower. Otherwise, you’ll be late,” she added.
‘Eliana, you’re the best,” Irene said, pulling her into a big bear hug.

‘Irene, let go of me! You smell like a brewery. Go eat and shower, and when you’re done, I’m coming for a full interrogation,” Eliana said.
But instead of letting go, Irene just squeezed her even tighter. “With you saying stuff like that, how could I possibly let you go? I just want to hold you forever.”
Eliana could only surrender and let Irene cling to her, since there was just no stopping her.
Eliana could see Irene was really trying to hold herself together.
That’s just Irene. She never let anyone see her vulnerable side.
f Eliana hadn’t bumped into her last night, and if Irene hadn’t gotten so drunk, she never would’ve let herself break down
ike that in front of her.
Thinking about it, Eliana’s heart ached for Irene, and she just hugged her back, even tighter.
Noticing Eliana’s mood, Irene quickly let go. “You eat first, I’m gonna shower. I reek of alcohol and it’s killing my appetite.”
With that, Irene turned and hurried off.
Soon, the sound of running water came from the bathroom.
Eliana knew Irene just needed a minute to herself, so she didn’t push her. She headed back to the kitchen and got out some varm milk and a few other things to help with the hangover.
By the time Eliana finished up, Irene had already showered and came out.
Seeing a glass of warm milk Eliana handed her, Irene took it without a word and downed it in one go.
Seeing her like that, Eliana couldn’t help but laugh. “Wow, you’re really brave. Aren’t you worried I might’ve slipped something in there?”
‘Not at all. If it’s from you, I’ll drink it without hesitation. If I end up dying because of you, I’d go with a smile,” Irene replied. dead serious.
As she said this, Irene, with a perfectly straight face, leaned in and pretended to collapse right into Eliana’s arms.
‘Come on, you’re such a drama queen this early in the morning. Get over here and cat before your stomach starts complaining, Eliana said, laughing.
Eliana couldn’t help but laugh at Irene’s antics. She grabbed her and dragged her over to the table for breakfast,
After breakfast, Irene glanced at the clock, saw it was about time, and tugged Eliana out the door with her.
It wasn’t until they’d driven out of the neighborhood that Eliana finally got serious. “Alright, spill it. What’s the deal with you and your boss?”

Irene knew there was no way Eliana wouldn’t ask.

She had been trying to steer clear of the topic all morning, but after bringing it up on impulse last night, she knew Eliana’s personality. There was no way she would let it slide without getting the full story.
But she and Nathan had barely patched things up, and Irene really didn’t want Eliana stressing over her drama right now.
So she just brushed it off. “It’s just adult stuff, you know? I’m at this age, and I’ve never really dated anyone before, so when we both wanted it, we became friends with pleasure. No strings attached.”
“But even if it’s just casual, I’ve got my standards. As long as we’re still seeing each other, he’s not allowed to sleep with anyone else,” she said.
“That’s why I was so mad when I saw him getting cozy with another woman last night,” Irene added.
“But honestly, it doesn’t matter. I never loved him anyway. At Drake Law Firm, I stand on my own two feet. I can take it or leave it. I’m not hung up on him at all,” she said.
“Honestly, I only got drunk for him just to save his pride,” Irene added.
Right now, Irene looked like she was totally over it.
But Eliana still looked skeptical. “Are you really okay? You’re not just putting on a brave face for me, are you?”
“Do I look like that kind of person?” Irene replied, sounding totally unfazed. “Seriously, I’m fine. I’m heading over there today to lay it all out. I’m not putting up with him anymore.”
