Chapter 336
“Aunt, I’ll handle things at the company. If Uncle wants to replace me, let him,” Daron said.

His voice was calm, his gaze steady and unreadable. He wasn’t affected at all by the idea that his uncle wanted to replace him.
Hayley’s face changed instantly, and she hurried to speak.
“Daron, don’t say that just because you’re upset. Your grandfather worked so hard to make you who you are. If they replace you, it would cause too much trouble. It’s just not worth it,” she said.
Hayley thought, ‘Giving up the Zamora Group for Marina? That’s just not worth it.‘
She didn’t want Daron to lose his head and act rashly.
“Besides, the Finleys are still counting on your position. If you lose your spot, how do you think Marina will feel about it?” Hayley said.
She couldn’t think of any other way to persuade Daron, so she had no choice but to bring up Marina’s name.
Daron looked unfazed.
“The Finley Group’s got the Campbell family from Port City backing them now, so they don’t really need much help from me. And if I step down, I’ll have way more free time. Maybe swinging by to help out the Finleys wouldn’t be such a bad idea,” he said.
Hayley was taken aback.
She opened her mouth to say something, but Daron spoke softly before she could get a word out. “Aunt, it’s getting late. You should get some rest. I’m heading out too.”
Hayley took a deep breath. After Daron finished speaking and left the living room, she felt her chest tighten with unease and slumped into her chair, struggling to catch her breath.
Once Daron’s figure had completely disappeared, Zara finally emerged from the corner. Seeing Hayley sitting on the couch, looking utterly stunned, she spoke in a low voice, “Mom, are you okay?”
Hayley just shook her head and answered softly, “I’m fine. I just didn’t expect Daron would go this far, all for a marriage.
Zara bit her lip and spoke softly, “I don’t think Daron’s really doing this just for marriage, Mom. He’s been pushing back against the way things are run in the Zamora family for years. Didn’t you ever notice?”
“Honestly, I think Marina just happened to be a suitable choice,” Zara added.
As Hayley listened to Zara, her nerves from all that with Daron finally started to settle down.
“You’ve got a point,” Hayley said.
Zara’s eyes sparkled with a smile as she spoke softly, “Mom, don’t worry. You know how capable Daron is, right? Even if he leaves the Zamora family, he’ll still do great.”
“Matthew might be talented, but that doesn’t mean he’s cut out for this business. He’s been itching to take over the Zamora Group for ages,” Zara added.
“But the Zamora Group isn’t just his. If Martin messes up, they’ll have no choice but to bring Daron back.

Hayley nodded, her voice low and serious. “I’ve never doubted Daron’s abilities.”

“I know exactly how strong he is. What worries me is, if the elders in the Zamora family cave and the shareholders can’t force Daron to do what they want, then nothing will stand in the way of him marrying Marina,” Hayley said.
“The wedding hasn’t happened yet, so there’s still room to change how things go. But if…” she trailed off, uncertainty lingering in her voice.
Zara’s fingers gripped the edge of her wheelchair a little tighter, worry flickering in her eyes, but she still tried to reassure
her mother.
“No way, Mom. There’s absolutely no chance Daron would ever give up the company just for Marina.”
“You know better than anyone how hard he fought to get to where he is now,” she added.
Hayley nodded, feeling a bit more at ease after hearing Zara’s words.
Daron had put in years of hard work just to get to where he was now.
After taking down Leo, he’d held onto his position for years, never letting anyone challenge him.
No one, especially a man, would ever give up his career for a woman.
“Zara, go get some rest in your room,” Hayley said.
Zara murmured softly and wheeled herself into her room.
Hayley sat on the couch for a while, drank the last of her coffee, and then headed to her room.
Hayley thought to herself, “The only woman fit to be the Zamora family’s matriarch is me.’
Daron stepped out of the back lounge and headed toward the front yard.
There was no sign of Marina in the party hall up
front.
Figuring she might still be waiting for him outside, he picked up the pace.
Spotting his car still parked in the driveway, Daron quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
‘Not as clueless as I thought. At least she’s smart enough to wait in the car,‘ he thought.
As Daron walked over, the driver brought the car around to the front and parked by the entrance.
He got out and held the door open, waiting for Daron to come out of the yard.
“Sorry to keep you waiting… Daron started to say.
But before he could finish, he saw the back seat was empty, not a soul in sight after the driver swung the door open.
His brows furrowed, his expression turning grim as he asked in a low voice, “Where is she?”
The driver quickly replied, “Ms. Finley asked the winery staff to take her home already.”
Daron’s expression turned icy as he ducked into the car, radiating a chill that made it clear he wasn’t in the mood for
nonsense.

The driver could practically feel the temperature in the air drop, so he hurried to close the door.

He got back behind the wheel and started the car. They’d barely pulled out of the winery when Daron’s low, cold voice broke he silence from the back seat.
When did she leave?”
The driver looked nervous, hesitating for a moment, unsure what to say.
Daron’s voice was cold as ice as he snapped, “Speak!”
The driver finally stammered, his voice barely above a whisper as he answered, “Ms. Finley had the winery staff take her home as soon as you went in.”
After he finished, Daron remained silent in the back seat.
The driver breathed a silent sigh of relief and glanced at the rearview mirror only to see Daron’s expression so stormy it sent
chill down his spine.
He barely dared to breathe, keeping his eyes on the road and driving as carefully as he could.
Daron figured Marina would at least stick around for a bit before heading out.
But she didn’t even wait a second and just had someone drive her home right away.
Daron felt like something was stuck in his chest and just wouldn’t go away.
Back home, Daron stepped inside.
Seeing his slippers neatly waiting for him by the door, his mood eased up a bit.
Maybe Marina was just caught up with stuff at the Finley Group and didn’t have time to wait for him, so she got the winery taff to drive her home.
She still thought of him. Knowing he would change his shoes when he got back, she had taken his slippers out of the shoe cabinet and prepared them for him.
The knot in Daron’s chest finally started to loosen up a bit.
After putting on his slippers, he headed straight upstairs to the bedroom.
Not wanting to wake Marina, he made sure every move was quiet, even carefully opening the door.
But when he walked in and opened the door, the bed was untouched, not a wrinkle in sight.
Marina clearly hadn’t slept in the master bedroom.
Her shoes were still by the door downstairs, so she was definitely home.
But since she wasn’t in the master bedroom, there was only one explanation. She had gone to sleep in the side room. The bit of comfort Daron had just found vanished in an instant, replaced by gloom.
